Veterans Memorial Wall Visits FC

A 120-foot remembrance wall will be displayed across the Fullerton College campus quad beginning Nov. 2 through Nov. 5. Hosted by the Veterans Resource Center, the wall represents a healing outlet for veteran students at FC and veterans in the community, as well as a visual reminder to others of the contributions and sacrifices made by veterans across the nation. President's Office Hours

Interim President Greg Schulz will be holding office hours on Nov. 4 from 3 to 4 p.m. and Nov. 17 from 1-2 p.m. in Building 100. This office hour is designed to encourage students, faculty, staff and the community to engage in exclusive one-on-one time with Schulz.

FC Summit to Raise Awareness of Social Justice Issues

The Ethnic Studies Department is teaming up with FC S.T.O.M.P. and Latina Leadership Network for the inaugural Fullerton College Social Justice Summit on Nov. 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the quad and the 200 Building. The "Real" Stonewall Riots

This panel will discuss Hollywood's tendency to "whitewash" historical events in films, criticism of the film Stonewall and the progression of gay rights from 1969 to present-day. The panel will be on Nov. 5 from 3 to 4:40 p.m. in Building 1400, Room 1440.

High School Counselors Learn About FC Programs

More than 100 high school counselors from 37 schools gathered at FC on Oct. 28 for a counselor breakfast, sponsored by the Counseling Department and the High School Outreach Office. Counselors learned about FC's various outreach programs including Jump Start, Early Commitment, Counseling 50, as well as Puente, TAP, Teacher Pathway, and the Fashion Design program. An admissions representative from UCI was also present to answer questions related to UC's Transfer Pathways.

Theatre Professor Receives Ovation Award Nomination

Fullerton College Theatre Arts faculty member Mela Hoyt-Heydon, received an Ovation Award nomination for Costume Design for her work on Cabrillo Music Theatre's 2014 production of Memphis. The production also received six other nominations including Best Production of a Musical, Lead Actor in a Musical, and Director of a Musical. Read more...

2015 Dia de los Muertos Celebration

A rich tapestry of culture and traditions came alive at Fullerton College on Oct. 30. The annual Dia de Los Muertos celebration, hosted by the Ethnic Studies Department, coincided with the Art Gallery's opening of Encuentros. See the photos on Facebook.

Donate to and Support Troops During the Holidays

The Veterans Resource Center is accepting donations for care packages until Nov. 13. Non-perishable food items and personal items, such as baby wipes, toothpaste and deodorant are among the list of items in need. Entertainment, clothing and other personal items are also appreciated. All donations can be dropped off in Building 500, Room 518. The VRC will also host a packing party on Nov. 20 from 8 a.m. to noon. FC Theatre Students Featured in OC Register

Fullerton College theatre students Jessi Lowerre and Melissa Meza were featured in the OC Register for their work in costuming and makeup. In this entertainment feature, writer Kaitlin Wright shadows Lowerre and Meza as they hunt for costume pieces and inspiration for Halloween. Read more...

Ban the Box Discussion

This discussion, on Nov. 9 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Building 500, Room 515, will focus on the national movement to remove the "Have you ever been convicted of a felony?" question on employment applications.

Sociology Club Collecting Socks for Hospices

The Sociology Club is collecting super-soft fuzzy socks for hospice patients from Nov. 3 to 29. Socks will be distributed during the holidays through the Southern California Hospice Foundation. Transfer Workshops and Tours at the Transfer Center

On Nov. 2 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and Nov. 5 from noon to 1:30 p.m., the Transfer Center will host a UC Application and Personal Statement workshop from 2 to 3 p.m. On Nov. 3, a CSU Application workshop will be held at 2 p.m. On Nov. 6, there will be a tour to CSU Long Beach and the Museum of Latin American Art, a deposit of $5 is required and refundable. On Nov. 5 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., a CSUF outreach representative will provide information on how to apply to CSUF. Learn How to Interview Without Stress

The Workforce Center is providing this workshop on proper interviewing techniques and how to positively impact the employer on Nov. 4 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Building 200, Room 224.

Umoja Events This Week

On Nov. 3 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Umoja is hosting a transferring process workshop. Participants must bring transcripts and application account information to benefit from this workshop. On Nov. 4 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., there is a financial aid workshop which will overview the financial aid process. On Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to noon, as part of the Fall Race Series, there will be a roundtable entitled Entering the Conversation: What is Racism? Encuentros Nov. 2-30

Encuentros is a unique art exhibition that brings together works of art from ancient Mexico and other regions of Latin America. In English meaning "encounters," this exhibition was designed to survey the rich and varied styles of art from the Maya, the Zapotec and other indigenous nations of the Americas. Curated by a team of professors, including Carol Henke, Jaime Perez, Gerald Padilla, Leonor Cadena and Amber Gonzalez, this exhibition was conceived as an important space to educate and inspire our students and community.

Faculty Dance Concert Nov. 6-7

Directed by Melanie Kay Rosa and Lisa Anderson, this concert features the works of Fullerton College Faculty, students and guest artists. The event will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Campus Theater. Tickets are $15, senior and student tickets are $10.

Combo Night Nov. 12

This concert features three award-winning instrumental jazz combos performing written and improvised jazz ranging from dixieland to fusion. The ensembles are directed by Mike Scott, Dr. Joe Jewel, and Bruce Babad. This concert will be in the Campus Theater at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for adults are $10, students and seniors are $7 and children are $5.

Football

The Hornets lost in a nail-bitter at home on Saturday afternoon to Saddleback College 39-36. Read more... Up Next: The Hornets (5-4 overall, and 2-3 conference) will travel down south to Palomar College on Nov. 7. Kickoff will be at 1 p.m.

Cross Country

The Lady Hornets ran at Mason Regional Park in Irvine this past Friday for the Orange Empire Conference Championships hosted by Orange Coast College. The women finished in sixth place with 143 points with sophomore Andrea Mendez leading the way with a 10th place finish out of 54 runners for the 5K race. Mendez received a medal and was chosen second Team All-Conference. The team finish made it possible to receive an at-large berth to Southern California Regional Championships to be held on Nov. 6 at Mission Bay in San Diego. Race time will be at 11 a.m. On the men's side, sophomore Pablo Perez finished in 15th place out of 81 runners and ran 21:41 for the four mile course. He was 2 seconds shy of making the All-OEC team. The Hornet team ran a solid race placing sixth overall receiving the nod to race in the SoCal Regionals as well.

Women's Volleyball

Fullerton was feeling good when they swept a high-ranked Cypress College team 3-0 on Wednesday, and then suffered a let-down on Friday losing to Riverside City College 3-1 on the road. Up Next: The Hornets (11-6, 6-3) will play Orange Coast College in the FC South Gym on Nov. 4. Game time is at 6 p.m.

Women's Water Polo

After suffering their first conference loss in a hard-fought game at Riverside City College (6-5) last Wednesday, the Hornets bounced back on Friday knocking off Mt. San Antonio at home 9-6. Up Next: FC (23-3, 4-1) will play in the Orange Empire Conference Championships at Riverside City College Nov. 5 and 7.

Women's Soccer

Fullerton fought hard against one of the toughest teams in the state at home on Friday before falling to Santiago Canyon College 2-0. Up Next: FC (5-10-2, 4-7-1) will hit the road to play at Golden West College at 3 p.m.

Men's Soccer

The FC men's soccer team continued to struggle last Friday losing their fifth straight game at Golden West 2-1. Up Next: The Hornets (3-12-2, 1-7-2) will try and pick it back up when they host Cypress College tomorrow at 3 p.m.

Baseball

The second annual Hornet Halloween game took place on Oct. 30 as the Hornets took advantage of the Halloween spirit. The ghosts of Hollow's Eve took over Hornet Field as the Fullerton College Baseball team worked out in their best costumes. Read more...
