Dia de los Muertos Celebration
A Dia de los Muertos celebration will be hosted by the Ethnic Studies Department on Oct. 29. The Mexican holiday, which focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember those who have died, will be celebrated with music, lively demonstrations and elaborate alters adorning the quad from 6:30-10 p.m. For more information, please contact Professor Gerry Padilla at padilla@fullcoll.edu. 
 
Quad Haunt Comes to Fullerton College
Ghosts and goblins will take over the Fullerton College quad on Oct. 28 and 29 as Associated Students host Quad Haunt from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on both days. The event will feature club booths, a costume contest, a canned food drive, and many other activities. Read more...

Live Wire Open Mic
Live Wire, FC's literary magazine is hosting an open mic and art gallery on Nov. 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. in Building 200, Rooms 224-228. The campus community is invited to sign up and read personal work during this event. To find out more, e-mail lwjournal@fullcoll.edu. Summit to Bring Social Justice Issues to Campus Community
The Social Justice Summit is a one day event that will bring together students, educators, organizers, activists, artists and community members to explore and bring critical contemporary issues to light and discuss them in depth with the hopes of creating better selves, a better campus and a better world. FC Co-Hosts Halloween Debate Tournament
Fullerton College will co-host a Halloween Debate Tournament with CSUF on Oct. 30 and 31. Friday's tournament will be at Fullerton College and Saturday's tournament will take place at CSUF. Students Visit Motivational Conference
On Oct. 17, Puente students attended the annual Motivational Conference at UC San Diego. The all day event featured motivational speakers, workshops and meetings with representatives from all UC campuses.
Special Election Resolution to be Voted On
On Oct. 27, the Board of Trustees will vote on a resolution to perform a mail-only election for its empty Trustee seat. The Orange County Registrar of Voters is estimating the cost of a vote-by-mail election to be between $168,327 and $197,275. The dates that interested candidates can declare their candidacy is between Oct. 19 and Nov. 13. The vote-by-mail ballots will be available from Jan. 11 to Feb. 2, 2016. Students Learn from Peers, Faculty and Guest Speakers at Annual Psychology Day
More than 100 students gathered on Oct. 10 to listen to guest speakers, talk with faculty and get to know fellow students at this year's Psychology Day. Organized by Fullerton College Psychology Department faculty, this day gave students the opportunity to learn the steps needed to begin a career in psychology. Read more...

Donate and Support Troops During the Holidays
The Veterans Resource Center is accepting donations for care-packages until Nov. 13. Non-perishable food items and personal items, such as baby wipes, toothpaste and deodorant are among the list of items in need. Entertainment, clothing and other personal items are also appreciated. All donations can be dropped off in Building 500, Room 518. The VRC will also host a packing party on Nov. 20 from 8 a.m. to noon. The Politics of Latina Reproduction and Immigration/Citizenship Discourse
This lecture focuses on the hotly debated topic of politics of immigration, citizenship and Latinos in America. Dr. Leo Chavez is a professor of anthropology at University of California, Irvine and director of the Chican@ Latino Studies & Center for Research on Latinos in a Global Society. There will be time for questions and answers at the end of this lecture scheduled for Oct. 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Campus Theater.

More Than Diversity: What We Can Do to Make Education More Equitable and Inclusive
This workshop will share learning from the Community College League for Innovation Conference and encourage participants to go beyond diversity to deep thinking about how to make sure classrooms become places to achieve equitable results for all students. This presentation is on Nov. 19 from 1 to 2 p.m. in Room 325. Presenters include Janna Anderson, English and Roger Perez, English.

eLumen Workshops
This week's offerings are as follows: on Oct. 26 from 1 to 2 p.m., there is a workshop on assessment methodologies in eLumen followed by drop-in help from 2 to 3 p.m. On Oct. 30 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., there is a workshop on non-instructional SAOs and SLOs in eLumen followed by drop-in help from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Habits of Mind: Assessing and Providing Feedback with a Growth Mindset Perspective
This workshop will focus on ways to assess--whether as teachers responding to student work, supervisors evaluating employees, and colleagues providing feedback within the workplace - in such a way that builds growth mindset capacity to enhance their learning and performance. Come hear a variety of presenters share how they have used a growth mindset perspective to improve the way they provide feedback in various settings. Presenters include Miguel Powers and English Department faculty on Nov. 13 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Room 119.

 
Classified Senate Meet and Greet
This meet and greet is on Nov. 10 from 1 to 2 p.m. in Room 224-226. The senate will present future plans and share their accomplishments. Light refreshments will be provided.

Symphonic Winds Oct. 29
This concert, directed by Anthony Mazzaferro, is on Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Campus Theatre. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for children, seniors and students. 



Encuentros Nov. 2-30
Encuentros is a unique art exhibition that brings together works of art from ancient Mexico and other regions of Latin America. In English meaning "encounters," this exhibition was designed to survey the rich and varied styles of art from the Maya, the Zapotec and other indigenous nations of the Americas. Curated by a team of professors, including Carol Henke, Jaime Perez, Gerald Padilla, Leonor Cadena and Amber Gonzalez, this exhibition was conceived as an important space to educate and inspire our students and community. The opening reception is on Oct. 29 from 5 to 8 p.m.

The Fullerton College football team traveled south to Grossmont College for a Southern Conference match-up outscoring the Griffins 44-20. Read more... Up Next: The Hornets will host Saddleback College on Oct. 31 at Yorba Linda High's Nathan Shapell Stadium. Kickoff is at 12:30 p.m.

Women's Water Polo
The Lady Hornets won the Battle at the Beach Tournament hosted by Long Beach City College over the weekend. FC won both games they played on Friday knocking off Cerritos 18-3 and Santa Barbara 14-5. On Saturday, Fullerton took revenge on Riverside, after a previous loss to the Tigers, with an 8-5 win. FC then beat a very strong Diablo Valley College team 9-5 to win the tourney title. Up Next: FC will travel to Riverside City College for an Orange Empire Conference showdown on Oct. 28. Game time is at 3 p.m.

Women's Soccer
The Hornets played with passion today at home against a physical Saddleback team that squeaked by FC 1-0. Read more... Up Next: FC will host Santiago Canyon College on Oct. 30 at 3 p.m.

Men's Soccer
Fullerton lost to Santa Ana College 4-1 on the road last Friday in an Orange Empire Conference game. Up Next: FC will look to pick things up when they host Irvine Valley College tomorrow at 3 p.m.

Women's Volleyball
FC hosted Golden West College on Friday night in the South Gym and lost a close one to the Rustlers 3-2. Up Next: The Hornets will host district rival Cypress College on Oct. 28 at 6 p.m.
