Hornets Celebrate Fullerton Founder's Day
The Fullerton Founder's Day Parade returned to the city after a 22-year hiatus on Saturday, Sept. 26. Fullerton College Hornets turned out in force to celebrate the day. With Interim President Greg Schulz and his family leading the way, students from the baseball team, dance team, Associated Students, Buzzy and the Fullerton College Ambassador Program enjoyed participating in the parade. President's Office Hours
Interim President Greg Schulz will host office hours on Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to noon in Building 100. The campus community is invited to meet with the interim president and engage in one-on-one time with him.

Final Study Abroad Info Session
A final info. session to study abroad in London this spring will be held at Fullerton College on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. in Building 200, Room 224. Students who have completed 12 units of college level coursework, including ENGL 100 F with a grade "C" or better, and with an overall GPA of 2.5 or better are eligible to study abroad. The info. session will cover participation requirements, cost, available courses, activities, and financial aid. The deadline to apply for study abroad is Nov. 6. Fall Plant Sale
The Horticulture Department's Fall Plant Sale is this weekend. California native, drought-tolerant plants, herbaceous perennials, shade plants, house plants, vines, succulents and winter vegetables will all be available. The sale starts on Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will end on Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit the Horticulture Department's website for more information.

FC Conducts Community Forums
Following the passage of Measure J, Fullerton College is embarking on a planning process that will determine the location and sequencing of projects on its campus. As an initial step in this planning, the college is seeking input from the campus community and the community at-large at a series of open forums. In October, architects will present findings and recommendations from the previous open forums. Guests will have an opportunity to ask questions and share their input about proposed building locations and the sequencing of projects. The campus forum will be on Oct. 20 from 1 to 2:30 p.m., and the community forum will be on Oct. 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. Both forums will be in Building 200, Room 224. Habits of Mind: Fostering Growth Mindsets
The next Habits of Mind workshop, Fostering Growth Mindsets in Classrooms and Offices is on Oct. 14 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Building 100, Room 119. Learn how faculty and staff are incorporating growth mindset practices into classroom, learning center and office settings. A student panel will share their experiences of how educators have fostered growth mindsets in students. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend. Faculty and staff should sign up on the District Staff Development Calendar.

MAS Conference Looking for Presenters
The Counseling Division is looking for presenters for the inaugural Males Achieving Success Conference on Jan. 27 at Fullerton College. The goal of this conference is to promote higher education, career exploration and self-development among males in 11th and 12th grade from a number of local high schools. Three different school districts and three educational programs have committed their students' participation at this conference. Please consider volunteering to be a presenter at this event. One 45-minute presentation on the topic of promoting higher education, career exploration and self-development would need to be conducted three times with 25 to 30 students throughout the day. Program Review Workshops for Non-instructional Programs
Non-instructional program review is just around the corner. The list of areas undergoing program review, templates, handbook and guides are available at programreview.fullcoll.edu. For any questions or help with self-studies, members of the Program Review Committee will be available in the TEC. The times are Sept. 29 and Oct. 8 from noon to 2 p.m. with Dawnmarie Neate, Nov. 2 from 3 to 5 p.m. with Jan Chadwick, and Nov. 3 and 5 from noon to 2 p.m. with Lisa Campbell.

eLumen Workshops
This week's offerings are as follows: on Sept. 28 from 1 to 2 p.m. there is a workshop on strategic planning, action plans and budget planning in eLumen; and drop-in help will be available at 2 p.m. On Sept. 29 there is a workshop on eLumen data entry for faculty from 3 to 4 p.m.; and drop-in help will begin at 4 p.m.


Sonocent Audio Note Taking Software Workshop
Sonocent is a new audio note taking software that encourages active learning strategies. Students can record a lecture, synchronize the audio notes with PowerPoint slides or PDF files, convert audio to text, edit audio, paraphrase with a recorder, color code and organize audio notes and transform writing into an audio/visual experience. This workshop is on Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in TEC 800D. Space is limited to 12, so please RSVP to Lynette Pratt at lpratt@fullcoll.edu or 714-992-7545.

Cultural Intelligence Training
The Staff Development and Diversity and Equity committees are collaborating with the District Staff Development Committee to bring a series of three workshops to Fullerton College this year to help employees prepare to engage the diverse student body. A flyer describing the general outlines of the program is available on the Staff Development website. Session One is on Oct. 16 and session Two is on Oct. 30, both are from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Session Three will be announced during the spring semester. Please RSVP to the Staff Development Coordinator, Jeanne Costello, at jcostello@fullcoll.edu no later than Sept. 29.

Showcasing a body of work both broad in scope and stunning in its beauty, the Fullerton College Art Collection exemplifies what a college art collection should be: educational, inspirational, and have the ability to move us all. Gallery hours for the collection are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon and from 2 to 4 p.m. Special evening hours will be on Sept. 9, 15 and 21 from 6 to 8 p.m.
 
Twelfth Night Oct. 8-17
Twelfth Night, directed by Professor Tim Espinosa will be performed on Oct. 8 to 10 and Oct. 16 to 17 at 7 p.m. in the Campus Theatre. Tickets during presale will bet $12.50 and tickets at the door will be $15.

Athletics at Fullerton College

Football
It was the Southern Conference opener for Orange Coast and Fullerton with the Pirates heading off the Hornets 31-23. A tough night, #5 Fullerton (2-2 overall, 0-1 conference) seemed to be gaining momentum after beating Mt. SAC and Cerritos the last two weeks. Read more... Up Next: The Hornets will travel south to LeBard Stadium to take on undefeated Golden West College (4-0) on Oct. 3. Kickoff will be at 6 p.m. 

Women's Water Polo
The Lady Hornets continue to impress sweeping through the competition at the Mt. SAC Invitational this past weekend. Day one began on Friday with Fullerton beating Santa Barbara 16-5. On Saturday, FC had a busy day playing in three games. The first game of the day saw FC beat the tournament host Mt. SAC 13-7. Fullerton went on to defeat LA Valley 20-8 and Long Beach 12-6. Up Next: FC (9-0) will play at Orange Coast College on Sept. 30 at 3 p.m.

Women's Volleyball
Fullerton hosted a three way tournament on Friday at the South Gym where Cerritos and Gavilan colleges all competed against one another. The Hornets won both of their matches against Cerritos 3-0 and Gavilan 3-0. Up Next: FC (5-3) will look to keep their winning ways going when they open conference-play at Cypress College on Oct. 2 at 6 p.m.

Women's Soccer
The Hornets hosted Pasadena City College on Friday beating the Lancers 5-1. Up Next: Fullerton travels to Santiago Canyon College for an Orange Empire Conference match-up on Sept. 29 at 3 p.m.

Cross Country
The FC men's team took 10th place out of 16 teams at the Golden West Invitational at Central Park in Huntington Beach last Friday. The women's team placed 10th out of 13 teams. Up Next: Fullerton will run in the Brubaker Invitational on Oct. 9 at Irvine Park in Orange. Races begin at 9:30 a.m.
