Hornets Celebrate Fullerton Founder's Day

The Fullerton Founder's Day Parade returned to the city after a 22-year hiatus on Saturday, Sept. 26. Fullerton College Hornets turned out in force to celebrate the day. With Interim President Greg Schulz and his family leading the way, students from the baseball team, dance team, Associated Students, Buzzy and the Fullerton College Ambassador Program enjoyed participating in the parade. President's Office Hours

Interim President Greg Schulz will host office hours on Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to noon in Building 100. The campus community is invited to meet with the interim president and engage in one-on-one time with him.

Final Study Abroad Info Session

A final info. session to study abroad in London this spring will be held at Fullerton College on Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. in Building 200, Room 224. Students who have completed 12 units of college level coursework, including ENGL 100 F with a grade "C" or better, and with an overall GPA of 2.5 or better are eligible to study abroad. The info. session will cover participation requirements, cost, available courses, activities, and financial aid. The deadline to apply for study abroad is Nov. 6. Fall Plant Sale

The Horticulture Department's Fall Plant Sale is this weekend. California native, drought-tolerant plants, herbaceous perennials, shade plants, house plants, vines, succulents and winter vegetables will all be available. The sale starts on Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will end on Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit the Horticulture Department's website for more information.

FC Conducts Community Forums

Following the passage of Measure J, Fullerton College is embarking on a planning process that will determine the location and sequencing of projects on its campus. As an initial step in this planning, the college is seeking input from the campus community and the community at-large at a series of open forums. In October, architects will present findings and recommendations from the previous open forums. Guests will have an opportunity to ask questions and share their input about proposed building locations and the sequencing of projects. The campus forum will be on Oct. 20 from 1 to 2:30 p.m., and the community forum will be on Oct. 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. Both forums will be in Building 200, Room 224. Habits of Mind: Fostering Growth Mindsets

The next Habits of Mind workshop, Fostering Growth Mindsets in Classrooms and Offices is on Oct. 14 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Building 100, Room 119. Learn how faculty and staff are incorporating growth mindset practices into classroom, learning center and office settings. A student panel will share their experiences of how educators have fostered growth mindsets in students. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend. Faculty and staff should sign up on the District Staff Development Calendar.

Healthcare Professions Seminar

Come learn about different healthcare professions at this seminar. Learn how to prepare for these careers, how long it will take and how much it costs to become a healthcare professional. Presenting this information is Estela Perry from The Coalition of OC, Community Health Centers. The seminar will be on Oct. 13 from 3 to 4 p.m. in Building 200, Room 229. Avoid Test-Related Anxiety

The Basic Skills Center is offering this workshop as part of the Student Success workshop series on Sept. 29 from 10 to 11 a.m. in Building 800, Room 808A.

VRC Evening Counseling Hours

Latino Students Forum

On Sept. 29, the 7th annual Latino Students Forum will be held in Building 200, Room 224 from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Hosted by the Cadena Cultural Center, this forum is designed to connect Latino students with support networks at FC and in the surrounding community. Learn Psychology Career and Transferring Tips at Psychology Day

Get information about internship and volunteer opportunities, how to transfer to four-year schools, tips from FC alumni, careers in psychology, prepping for grad school, and more. Guest speakers, Dr. Melanie Byde and Dr. Jacqui Lewis, will also be attending. The fee for this event is $13; register by Oct. 1 to any psychology instructor. Discover Business Degree Options through CSUF

The next Brown Bag Business session covers how to transfer to Cal State Fullerton as a business major. CSUF representatives will be on site to discuss the Business Administration, International Business and Economics programs. Along with information about the Associate of Science for Transfer degree program for six approved concentrations, on-campus clubs and organizations, student resources, and more will also be discussed. The evening session will be on Sept. 29 from 5:30 p.m. in Building 300, Room 327 and the daytime session will be on Sept. 30 from 1:30 p.m. in Room 322. Pizza will be provided during this event. Selections from the Fullerton College Art Collection Sept. 3-Oct. 7

Showcasing a body of work both broad in scope and stunning in its beauty, the Fullerton College Art Collection exemplifies what a college art collection should be: educational, inspirational, and have the ability to move us all. Gallery hours for the collection are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon and from 2 to 4 p.m. Special evening hours will be on Sept. 9, 15 and 21 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Twelfth Night Oct. 8-17

Twelfth Night, directed by Professor Tim Espinosa will be performed on Oct. 8 to 10 and Oct. 16 to 17 at 7 p.m. in the Campus Theatre. Tickets during presale will bet $12.50 and tickets at the door will be $15.

Football

It was the Southern Conference opener for Orange Coast and Fullerton with the Pirates heading off the Hornets 31-23. A tough night, #5 Fullerton (2-2 overall, 0-1 conference) seemed to be gaining momentum after beating Mt. SAC and Cerritos the last two weeks. Read more... Women's Water Polo

The Lady Hornets continue to impress sweeping through the competition at the Mt. SAC Invitational this past weekend. Day one began on Friday with Fullerton beating Santa Barbara 16-5. On Saturday, FC had a busy day playing in three games. The first game of the day saw FC beat the tournament host Mt. SAC 13-7. Fullerton went on to defeat LA Valley 20-8 and Long Beach 12-6. Up Next: FC (9-0) will play at Orange Coast College on Sept. 30 at 3 p.m.

Women's Volleyball

Fullerton hosted a three way tournament on Friday at the South Gym where Cerritos and Gavilan colleges all competed against one another. The Hornets won both of their matches against Cerritos 3-0 and Gavilan 3-0. Up Next: FC (5-3) will look to keep their winning ways going when they open conference-play at Cypress College on Oct. 2 at 6 p.m.

Women's Soccer

The Hornets hosted Pasadena City College on Friday beating the Lancers 5-1. Up Next: Fullerton travels to Santiago Canyon College for an Orange Empire Conference match-up on Sept. 29 at 3 p.m.

Cross Country

The FC men's team took 10th place out of 16 teams at the Golden West Invitational at Central Park in Huntington Beach last Friday. The women's team placed 10th out of 13 teams. Up Next: Fullerton will run in the Brubaker Invitational on Oct. 9 at Irvine Park in Orange. Races begin at 9:30 a.m.
