Sexual Assault Awareness Month

In support of National Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Fullerton College will host numerous workshops and events throughout the month of April to help raise awareness about sexual assault against men and women. KinderCaminata to bring 2,000 Kindergartners To Fullerton College

Fullerton College will welcome more than 2,000 kindergartners to its campus on April 17 for the 20th annual KinderCaminata. This year's theme will focus on "roots" and will stress the importance of embracing one's heritage through bilingualism and bi-literacy. Kindergarten classes from Anaheim City, Fullerton, La Habra City, and Magnolia school districts will participate in activities featuring lively demonstrations and hands-on learning experiences at various career stations provided by Fullerton College instructors and students. Earthweek Film Festival

Francis Mummery Receives Fourth Teacher of the Year Award

Influential, patient, caring, passionate and dedicated - these are just some of the words used to describe Fullerton College's 2015 Teacher of the Year and Economics Professor, Francis Mummery. He was presented with his fourth Teacher of the Year award on March 23 during a surprise visit to his classroom. Read more...

Habits of Mind in the Disciplines

Join educators from around Southern California for "Habits of Mind in the Disciplines" on April 17 from 9 a.m.-noon in room 1246. Participants will learn how instructors are using Habits of Mind in a variety of disciplines to improve student success. Co-sponsored by 3CSN for a regional audience, this month's event will feature both visiting and local presenters including Fullerton's own Growth Mindset Faculty Inquiry Group and Phi Theta Kappa students who have examined what teachers can do to foster growth mindset. Coffee and light refreshments will be served from 8:30-9 a.m.

The Pact Screening

The One Book, One College Committee and the Humanities Division invite faculty, staff and students to a free screening of The Pact, a documentary film based on the committee's common book for this academic year. The screening will be on April 17 from 10 a.m.-noon in room 521.

Restaurant Night event to Raise Funds for the 2015 Special Olympics World Games

Select restaurants will donate a portion of their proceeds on April 22 to support host town delegations prior to their participation in the Special Olympics World Games. Please join Host Town Fullerton in this fundraising effort. Find out which restaurants are participating.

What You Need to Know about Title IX

As part of sexual violence awareness week, Staff Development presents the "What You Need to Know about Title IX" workshop. Join Savannah Jones, interim vice president of student services, and Vanessa Miller, health center director, for a conversation about new Title IX regulations and how staff should respond to students who share information about sexual harassment or assault. There will be an opportunity for questions. The workshop is on April 16 from 3:30-5 p.m. in room 117.

Deeper STEM Learning Through Metacognitive Conversation

The Natural Sciences Division is hosting a 3CSN workshop, Deeper STEM Learning Through Metacognitive Conversation, which offers participants an opportunity to engage in practices that have been shown to improve student understanding of disciplinary texts. Coffee, morning snacks, and lunch will be served. Space is limited so register for the event on Eventbrite. CalWORKS and CARE Prepare for Annual Student Parents Luncheon

The CalWORKs and CARE programs are preparing for their Annual Student Parents Recognition Luncheon on May 8 in the Fullerton College Historic Courtyard (800B). The focus of the luncheon is to celebrate the successes and acknowledge the daily struggles these parents face in order to complete their education, achieve self-sufficiency and create a brighter future for their children. Please send your tax-deductible donations to Lizzete Garcia in the EOPS Office by May 4. Please make checks payable to "Fullerton College."

Call for Entries: Student Art Exhibition April 13-14

Students may submit artwork for jurying on April 13-14 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. and from 6-7 p.m. in the Art Gallery. Works must have been completed in a Fullerton College art class during the 2014/2015 academic year. Students may enter up to four pieces of art for $5 a piece. Entry forms are available online or in the Art Office.

Combo Night

Combo Night April 16

This concert features three award-winning instrumental jazz combos performing written and improvised jazz ranging in style from Dixieland to fusion. The ensembles are directed by Mike Scott, Dr. Joe Jewell and Bruce Babad. Tickets for students and seniors are $7, adults are $10, and children are $5. The concert will perform on April 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Campus Theatre.

Symphony April 20

The Fullerton College Symphony will present an evening of music from classical and pop genres. Tickets for adults are $10, kids are $5, and students and seniors are $7. This event will be on April 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Campus Theatre.

Vocal Jazz

Synergy Vocal Jazz and Lab Band April 21

The Fullerton College Synergy Vocal Jazz and Jazz Lab Band Ensembles present a wonderful evening of jazz on April 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Campus Theatre. Tickets for adults are $10, kids are $5, and students and seniors are $7.

The Rundown

Baseball

After losing a 7-6 heartbreaker at home last Thursday, the Hornets picked themselves back up and beat Saddleback College 3-2 on the road Saturday. Fullerton is still on the hunt for a playoff spot and more with an overall record of 20-11 and a conference record of 9-7. Up Next: Fullerton will host Saddleback College April 14 at 2 p.m.

Softball

The softball Hornets hosted Riverside City College on Friday sweeping the Tigers three games to none with a 4-1 win. Then on Saturday, Fullerton traveled to Cerritos College for a non-conference game where they lost in extra innings (9) 3-2. Up Next: Fullerton (20-14, 9-8) will play at Saddleback College April 14 at 3 p.m.

Swim & Dive

Hornet diver, Tom Beckleheimer competed in the Southern California Diving Championships at El Camino College over the weekend taking fourth in the three meter out of 13 divers. Tom also placed ninth in the one meter and qualified for the state championship meet to be held April 30 through May 2 at East Los Angeles College.

Women's Track & Field

Samantha Duong and Fanny Giron represented Fullerton College very well this past Saturday at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays by becoming champions! "Fanny had a strong race and truly separated herself from the field in the last 100 meters", said Coach Gina Bevec. Giron crossed the line winning it all in 57.63 seconds. Teammate Samantha Duong competed in the 400m Hurdles and followed Fanny's enthusiasm. Sam gave one of her best efforts as she moved ahead of the pack with two hurdles left to win it all with a finish of 1:03.75 (a personal record). These ladies are currently ranked second in the state with their individual events. Jasmine Mendoza ran a strong race in the second heat of the hurdles and finished ninth overall. She achieved a personal record of 1:07.62. Andrea Mendez won her heat with confidence in the 1500m with a time of 4:57.07, which is only two seconds off her best time of the season. Up Next: The Orange Empire Conference Championships at Orange Coast College hosted by Golden West College on April 17 and 24. Track events will begin at 10 a.m. with the field events beginning at 2 p.m.
