FULLERTON COLLEGE ATHLETICS ROUND-UP
FOOTBALL: The Hornets will open the 2014 football season this Saturday, September 6, at home (Yorba Linda High School) against Ventura College. Kickoff is 6 pm.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: The Hornets hosted Grossmont College on Friday afternoon nearly blanking the Griffins 3-1 to open the 2014 season. Fullerton scored the first goal in the 22nd minute of the game on a shot by Elizabeth Ayson. Natalia Vasco supplied the assist. Ayson struck again in the 31st minute with the assist by Jessica Lee. Ayson then made an unassisted goal with 12 minutes left in the game. Up Next: The Hornets (1-0) will hit the road against Palomar College on Tuesday, September 2. Game time is 4 pm.

BASEBALL: SS Jose Rojas accepted a scholarship from Vanguard University today! A two year starter, Rojas helped lead the Hornets to the state championship his freshman year batting .310, with 17 runs, 21 RBI, 45 hits, and 2 stolen bases. This past season Rojas batted .305 with 13 runs, 18 RBI, and 39 hits.

BILL RIDDELL: Former Hornet left handed pitcher Bill Riddell passed away in his sleep on Tuesday night due to pancreatic cancer. A local product, Bill played at Troy High School from 1973-74 and was an outstanding pitcher for the Warriors. Riddell then transferred to Fullerton College and played two years for Coach Mike Sgobba. Bill was a teacher at Estancia High School in Costa Mesa and resided in San Clemente with his wife, Diane. Funeral arrangements are being planned for Thursday at a site to be determined. "Baseball was a significant part of Billy's DNA," said Head Coach Nick Fuscardo. "He was in love with playing and watching his favorite game. I was honored to have had the opportunity to coach Bill Riddell and his memory will forever be etched in my heart."
