FULLERTON COLLEGE STUDENT LISA HAYGOOD WINS PRESTIGIOUS JACK KENT COOKE SCHOLARSHIP

Fullerton College student Lisa Haygood was recently named a winner of the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship! The scholarship makes it possible for the nation's top community college students to complete their bachelor's degrees by transferring to a four-year college or university. The foundation provides up to $30,000 per year to each of approximately 85 deserving students selected annually, making it the largest private scholarship for two-year and community college transfer students in the country.

Each award is intended to cover a significant share of the student's educational expenses - including tuition, living expenses, books and required fees - for the final two to three years necessary to achieve a bachelor's degree. Awards vary by individual, based on the cost of tuition as well as other grants or scholarships he or she may receive.

To be eligible for the program, students must be nominated by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Faculty Representative at their two-year institution.

The barbecue will take place on both Friday and Saturday, May 2 and 3 with seating available at 5 pm or 6:30 pm. Tickets are $60 per person and also include special access to Railroad Days. CALWORKS AND CARE PREPARING FOR ANNUAL STUDENT RECOGNITION LUNCHEON: DONATIONS NEEDED

The CalWORKs and CARE programs are preparing for the Annual Student Parents Recognition Luncheon, taking place on Friday, May 9 in the Historic Library Courtyard. The event celebrates the successes and acknowledges the daily struggles these parents face in order to complete their education, achieve self-sufficiency, and create a brighter future for their children.

In the past, the generosity of Fullerton College faculty and staff has ensured that each student in attendance receives a $15 Target gift card. This year, event organizers hope to raise enough money to purchase gift cards for all 50 attendees.
