All staff and faculty and invited to attend one of the upcoming Coffees with the Board of Trustees and Chancellor. The coffees are informal gatherings for staff, faculty and students to ask questions, and have a dialogue with Board members and the Chancellor. Each campus hosts one Coffee per semester, and employees are welcome to attend any or all of the three Coffees at their convenience.

HEALTH SERVICES HOSTING ANNUAL SPRING HEALTH FAIR NEXT WEEK

Health Services is hosting its Annual Spring Health Fair on Thursday, April 10, from 10 am - 1 pm on the Quad.  The fair will include free blood pressure, glucose, chiropractic and dental screenings, as well as live DJ music, free giveaways, and over 40 health organizations providing life-saving information.  A crashed car provided by Mothers Against Drunk Driving will also be displayed between the 300 and 500 buildings for the entire week of to remind everyone about the dangers of drinking and driving.  

POET MICHAEL MILLER FEATURED AT VISITING WRITER EVENT

The Fullerton College English Department and Humanities Division are hosting well-regarded poet Michael Miller at the 30th Biannual Visiting Writer event on Tuesday, April 29 at 3 pm in the Wilshire Auditorium.   Miller hails from Fullerton and has published two books of poetry.  He also owns Moon Tide Press, dedicated to showcasing talented and cutting-edge Southern California poets.  Tickets are available for $6.50 at the Fullerton College Box Office.

NOCCCD BUDGET ALLOCATION MODEL FORUM SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 29

All employees are invited to attend the NOCCCD Budget Allocation Model Forum, scheduled for Tuesday, April 29 from 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm in room 224. District representatives, including Vice Chancellor of Finance and Facilities Fred Williams, will detail how funds are allocated throughout the district and answer any questions participants may have about fiscal distribution. 

ASIAN PACIFIC ISLANDER SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINE IS APRIL 23

The 2013-2014 Asian Pacific Islander Faculty & Staff Association (APIA) Scholarship application is available on the Cadena Cultural Center website. The deadline to apply for $200 the scholarship is Wednesday, April 23. APIA seeks to recognize students who exemplify the spirit of the organization by achieving academic excellence and demonstrating personal commitment and dedicated service to the Asian Pacific Islander (API) community. 

BASIC SKILLS PROGRAM OFFERING SEVERAL STUDENT SUCCESS WORKSHOPS THIS SEMESTER

The Basic Skills Graduate Student Internship Program has several student success workshops scheduled for the remainder of the spring semesters. The workshops are open to all Fullerton College students and are facilitated by Basic Skills Graduate Student Interns. Faculty are asked to publicize the workshops to their students. When students sign-up, faculty members will be notified should they wish to offer extra credit.

 

All workshops are held in room 808A, adjacent to the writing center and the tutoring center. For more information, contact Dani Wilson. 

ONE BOOK, ONE COLLEGE, ONE CITY AUTHOR HECTOR TOBAR ON CAMPUS APRIL 1

The Fullerton College Humanities Division is hosting an evening with One Book, One College, One City author Hector Tobar on Tuesday, April 1 at 7 pm in the Wilshire Auditorium. Tobar will discuss and read excerpts from his book, The Barbarian Nurseries. A book signing will follow the formal presentation. Prior to the event, faculty and staff are invited to attend a reception in Tobar's honor, from 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm in room 224. The event is free and no RSVP is needed.

 

On Monday, April 7, art historian Juliea Shriver will present an illustrated talk on art and the artists referred to in The Barbarian Nurseries. The event is also free and will take place at 10 am in room 224.

SCHOLARSHIP DONATIONS SOUGHT FOR MEN AND WOMEN OF DISTINCTION

Each spring, 30 Fullerton College students are named Men and Women of Distinction. The students are nominated by administrators, faculty, staff and classmates, and have distinguished themselves in a wide variety of diverse areas, such as scholarship, divisional, departmental, contributions and service to the college. In years past, each student has received a scholarship, however, due to budget shortfalls, additional contributions are needed this year.

 

Donations are being sought from Fullerton College faculty and staff to ensure the scholarships continue. Checks, made payable to Fullerton College with the subject "M&WoD Scholarship, are being accepted by Associated Students now through Wednesday, April 30. 

STUDENTS ENCOURAGED TO BRING RESUMES TO SPRING JOB FAIR

The Fullerton College Spring Job Fair is taking place on Wednesday, April 9 from 10 am - 2 pm on the Quad. Fifty employers have registered for the event, including corporate sponsors Louis Vuitton, Chicken Charlies, FLS Intl., ChildCare Careers, Sears, Skechers, Souplantation, Santa Catalina Island Co., OnTrac, City of Fullerton, City of La Mirada, UPS & Wells Fargo. Students are encouraged to bring their resumes with them to the event.

FULLERTON COLLEGE ATHLETICS ROUND-UP

BASEBALL: Breaking a three-game losing streak, the Hornets battled Santa Ana College at home Friday knocking off the Dons 7-6 in 13 innings. The win locks Fullerton in a four-way first place tie in the Orange Empire Conference with Santa Ana, Saddleback, and Orange Coast at 8-5. Up Next: Fullerton (18-7, 8-5) will host Cypress College on Tuesday, April 1 a 2 pm.

 

SOFTBALL: The Fullerton bats cut through the wind in the fifth inning overtaking Orange Coast College at home Wednesday, 5-1. FC starter Pratt took the no-decision going three innings with three hits against, four walks, and one strikeout. RP Alyssa Felipe grabbed the win tossing four innings with one hit against, three walks, and four strikeouts. Up Next: The Hornets (12-13, 4-9) will play in at the Santa Barbara City College tournament this weekend, March 29-30.

 

WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: The Lady Hornets held strong with a 63-60 win over the Gauchos for the season's last OEC conference dual meet held at Saddleback College last Thursday evening. The FC team had a total of sixteen PR's (personal records) along with Daisy Esparza setting a new school record in the 5000 Meters with a time of 18:09.76. The previous record was held by Luz Valdez who ran 18:11.3h in 1986. Up Next: Fullerton will take part in the SoCal Heptathlon/Decathlon Championships, April 8-9 at Cerritos College.

 

WOMEN'S TENNIS: Fullerton got off to a slow start on Thursday at Riverside City College, but finished strong with a 6-3 conference win. Number one Sarah Anderson swept through her match while Cailin Mitchell, Sarah Edwards, and Jasmine Catolico each dropped their first sets and then managed to sweep through the rest for the win. Up Next: Fullerton will travel to Cypress College on Tuesday, April 1. Match-play will begin at 2 pm.  In other FC tennis news, former player Emma Sheehan was named as the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference "Player of the Week" at McPherson College.

 

MEN'S TENNIS: The FC men's tennis team fought hard at Riverside College, but ended up falling to the Tigers 6-3 at home last Thursday. Up Next: FC (5-11, 1-7) will host Cypress College this Tuesday, April 1. Match-play begins at 2 pm.

The slime used on Nickelodeon's Double Dare was made from applesauce, vanilla pudding, oatmeal and green dye. It was safe to eat.
