HEALTH INSURANCE MANDATORY FOR EVERYONE BY APRIL 1, 2014
Covered California, in partnership with the California Department of Health Care Services, has created a new health insurance marketplace in which individuals and families can get access to affordable, quality health insurance plans.

Covered California helps individuals (based on income level) determine whether they are eligible for financial assistance to purchase health insurance plans or whether they are eligible for Medi-Cal. Please direct those with questions to the consumer-friendly Covered California website: www.CoveredCA.com

To assist Fullerton College Students and staff to meet the April 1, 2014 health insurance deadline, the Student Health Center has created Covered California 101, an informational board located in the lobby of the health center. Students and staff are encouraged to visit the health center and view Covered California 101 to get a basic understanding of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the types of financial assistance available through Covered California. The board is updated on a weekly basis, providing users with a list of off-campus, local enrollment events/sites where individuals and families can meet with Certified Enrollment Counselors for individualized assistance enrolling in a suitable health plan.
AUTHOR AND RESEARCHER DR. JOY DEGRUY WILL PRESENT DAY-LONG WORKSHOP AT FULLERTON COLLEGE
Nationally renowned author, researcher, and educator Dr. Joy DeGruy will visit Fullerton College on Friday, March 28 as part of the North Orange County Community College District's Distinguished Lecture Series. Her workshop, Culturally Specific Models of Service Delivery and Academic Practice, will take place in room 224 from 9 am - 2:30 pm.

Dr. DeGruy's extensive research lays  the groundwork for understanding how the past has influenced the many adaptive survival behaviors of African Americans. She is the author of the book Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome: America's Legacy of Enduring Injury and Healing. Her workshop couples evidence-based models and culturally responsive intervention approaches. Thus, the values, customs and traditions that characterize and distinguish different groups of people, become the tools through which to proceed in assisting, supporting and strengthening students towards
academic success.

THIS YEAR'S KINDERCAMINATA WILL HONOR THE LATE DR. CHRIS LAMM
The legacy of Fullerton College KinderCaminata continues!   This year's event will highlight the personal motto of Dr. Chris Lamm, In Peace and Understanding. Dr. Lamm, the event's organizer for the last 18 years, passed away last June.

KinderCaminata will take place on Friday, May 2 and over 1,100 kindergarten children, teachers, and parents will visit the college and take part in interactive educational experiences that allow them to explore what they want to be when they grow up.  Already inquisitive and eager learners, the children learn about many of the careers and occupations open to those with a college education.  Many of the parents that visit the campus have never been on a college campus before and this experience helps them recognize that college can be a realistic part of their children's future.

To make this event a success, the KinderCaminata Committee needs student volunteers to help with the event.  Also, faculty, staff, and managers are encouraged to develop and facilitate careers stations that highlight a college career.  For more information, contact Diana Kyle, Event Coordinator.
