HEALTH INSURANCE MANDATORY FOR EVERYONE BY APRIL 1, 2014
Covered California, in partnership with the California Department of Health Care Services, has created a new health insurance marketplace in which individuals and families can get access to affordable, quality health insurance plans.

Covered California helps individuals (based on income level) determine whether they are eligible for financial assistance to purchase health insurance plans or whether they are eligible for Medi-Cal. Please direct those with questions to the consumer-friendly Covered California website: www.CoveredCA.com

To assist Fullerton College Students and staff to meet the April 1, 2014 health insurance deadline, the Student Health Center has created Covered California 101, an informational board located in the lobby of the health center. Students and staff are encouraged to visit the health center and view Covered California 101 to get a basic understanding of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the types of financial assistance available through Covered California. The board is updated on a weekly basis, providing users with a list of off-campus, local enrollment events/sites where individuals and families can meet with Certified Enrollment Counselors for individualized assistance enrolling in a suitable health plan.

STUDENT SUCCESS COMMITTEE WORKGROUP EXPLORING HABITS OF MIND

The term "Habits of Mind" is often used at Fullerton College, and many have wondered what it exactly means. A Student Success Committee workgroup is currently researching how it impacts student success and what the college is already doing to support it. The workgroup is exploring concepts related to mindset and mindfulness in education, and how other colleges are implementing Habits of Mind initiatives. Some members even participated in an online module to learn ways to help students with questioning and problem posing.

This semester, the workgroup hopes to offer a series of events designed to further integrate Habits of Mind at Fullerton College. Those interested in assisting in the effort are asked to contact Lynette Pratt.

Fascinating Fact ...

Elmo is the only non-human to ever testify before the U.S. Congress. He testified before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education in April 2002, urging support for increased funding in music education.
