World AIDS Day

Visit the Quad between 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Monday for more information about AIDS and HIV from Health Services.
Be safe. Get tested.  Be informed.

A portion of the AIDS Memorial Quilt will be on display in the Library Foyer December 2-6, 2014.

In June of 1987, a small group of strangers gathered in a San Francisco storefront to document the lives they feared history would neglect. Their goal was to create a memorial for those who had died of AIDS, and to thereby help people understand the devastating impact of the disease. This meeting of devoted friends and lovers served as the foundation of the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt.

Today the Quilt is a powerful visual reminder of the AIDS pandemic. More than 48,000 individual 3-by-6-foot memorial panels - most commemorating the life of someone who has died of AIDS.

CSUF Educational Symposium

The Center for Research on Educational Access and Leadership (C-REAL) at Cal State Fullerton promotes a vision and mission that focuses on social justice, equity, access, and success for all students. As part of this mission, C-REAL is hosting a symposium titled, "Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity: On Your Campus and In Your Classroom," on December 6 to address the educational concerns of the LGBTQ community.

Educational concerns for LGBTQ students exist in our schools and colleges. Issues include harassment, invisibility, the "coming out" process, gender neutral restrooms, creating safe spaces for interaction, bullying, violence, and negative stereotypes about social characteristics and academic potential.

The main purpose of the symposium is to bring together a series of expert speakers and panelists to address the aforementioned issues that affect our communities and schools.

Seats are limited so make sure you register early at: http://ed.fullerton.edu/c-real

ALL participants must register. Student registration is $30, and non-student registration is $80.

If you're interested in attending, we have a limited number of registration fee waivers available.  Contact Jodi Balma if you're interested.

Writing Center Workshops

The Writing Center offers various workshops throughout the semester to help you develop your writing skills. You do not need to register, but arrive early to ensure you get a space.  Room 808

These are the upcoming workshops:

Tuesday, December 3, 10:00-11:00
Easily Confused Words: there, their, or they're? (Joyce Cain)
"She use to write her papers the night before they were due but changed her ways after her grades were negatively effected. Now a days, she starts early and goes to the Writing Center." can you spot the errors in the previous sentences? If not, join us at this workshop and learn about words that we frequently misuse and learn how to avoid these errors in your writing.

Wednesday, December 4, 11:00-11:50
Word Forms (Jacqueline Cooper)
Have you ever looked up a word in the dictionary and discovered that you already knew another form of the word? In this workshop, we will look at word forms and families to help you recognize vocabulary faster and improve reading skills and vocabulary development.

For more information, visit the Writing Center's website at http://writingcenter.fullcoll.edu/workshops.html

UCLA's Transfer Alliance Program (TAP)

UCLA's Transfer Alliance Program (TAP) is a collaboration between local community college Honors/Scholars Programs and UCLA College (Letters and Science) in conjunction with Undergraduate Admissions and Relations with Schools. The program is designed to foster academic excellence at the community college level and to promote diversity and retention in the UCLA transfer population. Member community colleges like Fullerton College provide enriched general education curricula emphasizing critical thinking, writing, and research through their Honors programs.

TAP Applications will be available in January in the Honors Office.  Students who are Honors Certified at Fullerton College receive priority consideration for admission to UCLA College (Letters and Science). Admitted TAP students are eligible to apply for scholarships reserved for the Transfer Alliance Program. (FC Honors Alumni Maria Duque and Shayne Wiggins received $5,000 scholarships for the next two years at UCLA as TAP scholars)

UCLA and UCI Library Access

If you were interested in accessing the campus libraries at UCLA and UCI, stop by the office to pick up a form. Depending on the school, you have different access to databases for research papers and other resources, at your disposal. Simply put, with the form, you can head over to the campus and get a library card to use for school assignments.

The Honors Program Staff is here to help you.  If you have any questions, please stop by our office in College Center: Room 225 or 714.992.7133.
