STAFF ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND UPCOMING COFFEE WITH CHANCELLOR AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES

All Fullerton College faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend the upcoming Coffee with the Chancellor and Board of Trustees. The coffee is scheduled for Monday, November 25 at 10 am in rooms 224-228.
The coffee provides an opportunity to ask questions of district leadership in an informal environment. No RSVP is needed.

CENTENNIAL HOMECOMING AND KEY TO THE COUNTY FOOTBALL GAME THIS WEEK
|
Fullerton College's Centennial Homecoming Celebration will begin on Wednesday, November 13 with a campus celebration from 10 am - 1:15 pm on the Quad. The day will feature live entertainment, speak-easy casino gaming tables, a free pasta lunch, and a pep rally. There will also be a similar evening event from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm in the Student Center.
The Homecoming football game, which will also be the 91st annual Key to the County match-up, will take place on Saturday, November 16 at 1 pm at Yorba Linda High School's Nathan Shapell Stadium. The stadium is located at 19900 Bastanchury Road in Yorba Linda. Admission is free for students with an AS validation. General admission is $8 and $6 for seniors (62+). Children 10 and under are free. The game will feature a halftime ceremony honoring the legendary athletic trainer Bill Chambers.

AUTHOR CORRINE JACKSON THIS YEAR'S VISITING WRITER

The Humanities Division is hosting a series of Visiting Writer events on Wednesday, November 13, and Thursday, November 14. On Wednesday, November 13, from 6:30 pm -8:30 pm, young-adult-fiction author Corrine Jackson will be the featured guest in the Campus Theatre, where she will read excerpts from her novels,Touched and If I Lie. Special musical guests will begin the evening and Jackson's books will be on sale. Tickets are $6.50 and include a book signing after the general discussion.
The next day, Jackson will hold an Open Forum from 3 pm - 4:00 pm in room 521. Admission is free and classes are welcome.

HOMETOWN HOLIDAY ALL-CAMPUS PARTY ON DECEMBER 10
|
This year's all-campus holiday party is scheduled for Tuesday, December 10 from 2 pm - 4 pm in rooms 224-228. A similar party will be held for evening staff from 10 pm - 11 pm in the Old Staff Dining Room. The theme for both is Hometown Holiday - Celebrate the Centennial Holiday Season.
Those interested in helping plan the event are asked to attend a meeting on Thursday, November 7 at 10 am in PCR-A.

HEALTH SERVICES OFFERING FLU VACCINE TO FACULTY, STAFF, AND STUDENTS
|
Health Services is offering the flu vaccine Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 9 am - 12 noon and 1 pm - 6 pm; and Fridays from 9 am - 12 noon. No appointment is necessary and the vaccine is free of charge for students and $20 for current faculty and staff.
At risk for the flu are children younger than five, but especially children younger than two, adults 65 and older, pregnant women, and people with certain medical conditions.

PUENTE STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN MOTIVATIONAL CONFERENCE AT UC RIVERSIDE

On Saturday, October 26, 28 Puente students, including faculty Elias Dominguez, Elli England, and Mark Knoernschild, participated in the annual Southern California Puente Motivational Conference at UC Riverside. Students enjoyed a full day of workshops on UC and CSU admissions, money management, leadership and scholarships.

NEW SERIES OF FLIPPED EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOPS OFFERED TO FACULTY AND STAFF

The staff Development Office is hosting a series of Flipped educational technology workshops, led by faculty members Gary Graves, Deidre Hughes, Darnell Kemp, Valerie Hannah, and Cory Thomas. The series is unique in that participants are asked to watch videos prior to the workshop so that the session time may be used for hands-on learing.
The first workshop, BYOD: Integrating Mobile Devices in the Classroom, will take place on Thursday, November 14 at 2:30 pm in the Teaching and Learning Effectiveness Center. Participants will learn how to use Socrative, Remind 101, Teachers.io, and Quizlet in the classroom. Register using the Staff Development calendar in MyGateway.

STAFF AND FACULTY ENCOURAGED TO "ADOPT AN ANGEL" IN SUPPORT OF STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES
| EOPS/CARE and CalWORKs are currently in the planning stages for their annual "Adopt an Angel" Student-Parent Holiday Party, scheduled for Friday, December 13. Those wishing to participate by adopting a child may do so by stopping by the EOPS Office beginning on Wednesday, November 6 to adopt an "angel." Gifts may then be brought to the EOPS Office beginning Monday, December 2 through Tuesday, December 10. Tax-deductible donations are also welcomed. Checks may be made out to "Fullerton College."

DISTRICT STAFF DEVELOPMENT HOSTING WEB COMPLIANCE WORKSHOP

The District Staff Development Committee is presenting a 90-minute, hands-on workshop focusing on staying compliant with Federal Law ADA 508. The workshop is scheduled for both Monday, November 18 and Thursday, November 21 at 3 pm in the Anaheim Campus Staff Development lab (room 307).
Participants will learn, discuss, and practice:
- General Access Strategies - text, images, audio, video and complex media types
- Accessibility Principles - Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, & Robust for all students
- General Tools - adding alt. tags, images and titles, captions, and long descriptions
- Auditory Tools - adding text transcripts of spoken dialogue for audio files
- Visual Tools - adding captions to video using YouTube

Natural Sciences' Richard Lozinsky recently finished writing and compiling a guidebook which was used during a an international Society of Vertebra Paleontology meeting held in Los Angeles. To view the document, click here.
Bruce Henderson of the English Department won second place in the Foster City International Writing Contest for his poem "We Nuked John Wayne." The prize includes an honorarium and a special dinner gathering in Foster City.
Several Fullerton College Natural Sciences students have been accepted to make scholarly presentations at the upcoming Southern California Conference for Undergraduate Research to be held at Whittier College: Sophia de Alba, Thu Tran, Marlene Tagle, Marc Piercy, Felicia Tang, and Douglas Danielsen.

FULLERTON COLLEGE ATHLETICS ROUND-UP

FOOTBALL: The #1 Hornets hit the road Saturday night and kept their undefeated streak alive beating Orange Coast College 63-21. Fullerton took control of the game early scoring on the opening kickoff, an 82-yard return by Lavorrie Johnson and never looked back. Up Next: The Hornets (9-0 overall, 5-0 conference) will host the 91st Key to the County game on Saturday, November 16 at Yorba Linda High's Shapell Stadium. For 91 years, the football teams from Fullerton College and Santa Ana College have done battle on the gridiron once a year in what is believed by many to be California community college's longest-running football rivalry. Since their first meeting in 1916, a most-fitting scoreless tie, the two teams have played 90 times in including 68 consecutive years from 1945 to present.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ranked 21st in the state, the Hornets hosted #6 Golden West College on Friday night and brought out their brooms sweeping the Gauchos 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-19). Up Next: The Hornets (14-4, 7-4) will try and keep it rolling when they travel to Riverside City College on Wednesday, November 13. Game time is 6 pm.
CROSS COUNTRY: The FC women's cross country team placed 5th out of 27 teams at the SoCal Championships held at Santa Clarita's Central Park on Friday. Qualifying for state in Fresno are Maegan Garritson, Daisy Esparza, Elena Estrada, Krystal Martinez, Taylor Morico, Daniela Rubio, and Diana Ortega. The men's team placed 23rd out of 28 teams with Brandon Velasco qualifying for the state. Up Next: The State Championships at Fresno City College on Friday, November 22 at 10 am.
WOMEN'S WATER POLO: The Hornets hosted the Orange Empire Conference Championship Tournament over the weekend and placed third overall. Up Next: Fullerton (27-4, 6-3) will take part in the SoCal Regional Championships at Cerritos College. Game one will feature #3 Fullerton against #6 Mt SAC at 3:30 pm on Friday, November 15.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: Riddled with injuries this season, the Hornets lost their fifth consecutive game on Friday, falling to Orange Coast College at home 4-1. Up Next: Fullerton (2-16-1, 2-12-1) wraps up their season at home against Cypress College on Friday, November 15 at 3 pm.
WOME'S GOLF: The FC women's golf team took first place at the Orange Empire Conference Championships last Wednesday at San Clemente. Fullerton's Kacy Kaichi, along with Palomar's MVP Sadye Busby, had the best overall two-day score shooting a 159 to win the Orange Empire Conference Individual Tournament. On Sunday and Monday the Hornets kept it rolling at the SoCal Championships at the Alisal River Golf Course in Solvang by taking 2nd place overall. Up Next: Fullerton will play as the #2 seed in the State Championships at Tracey Golf Course in Modesto, November 18-19.
MEN'S BASKETBALL: The FC men's basketball team got their season going last Thursday with a convincing 92-79 win over Los Angeles Southwest College at the Miramar Tournament. They went on to drop the next two games in the tourney, a 78-74 overtime loss to Miramar and a 90-74 loss to L.A.
