 STAFF ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND UPCOMING COFFEE WITH CHANCELLOR AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES
All Fullerton College faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend the upcoming Coffee with the Chancellor and Board of Trustees. The coffee is scheduled for Monday, November 25 at 10 am in rooms 224-228.

The coffee provides an opportunity to ask questions of district leadership in an informal environment. No RSVP is needed.
COME CELEBRATE OUR STUDENT-VETERANS DURING WEEK-LONG VETERANS CELEBRATION
Fullerton College is honoring its veterans during a week-long celebration, starting Monday, November 4 and continuing through Thursday, November 7. 

Monday, November 4 - Thursday, November 7: Vision2Victory Global War on Terror Wall of Remembrance, displayed on the Quad. At approximately 11:15, the Wall will be escorted onto campus by the Patriot Guard. Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to come watch the procession.

Monday, November 4: High Ground documentary viewing and discussion, 10am - 12 noon, room 224

Tuesday, November 5:  Veterans Student Forum, 1 pm - 2:30 pm, rooms 224-228

Wednesday, November 6: Restrepo documentary viewing and discussion, from 1 pm - 4pm, room 226

Thursday, November 7: Veterans Celebration featuring speakers, live entertainment, and a barbeque; 11 am - 2 pm, Quad. Lowering of the colors and a candlelight vigil to take place from 5 pm - 7pm

This event is made possible by the Fullerton College Veterans Club, Wells Fargo, and the Fullerton College Centennial.  
BIKE TO WORK USING FULLERTON'S NEW BIKELINK PROGRAM

In only a few weeks, Fullerton College will be one of 10 locations taking part in the Orange County Transportation Authority's new BikeLink program. A new bike parking lot, located at the northeast corner of Lemon Avenue and Fullerton College Drive, will house several bikes which may be checked out by members of the community.

 

Other stations will be located at the Fullerton Train Station, City Hall, Cal State Fullerton, College Plaza Shopping Center, and Fullerton College. A kick-off celebration is slated for Thursday, November 14 at the Fullerton Train Station. For more information on the program and how to participate, click here.

AUTHOR CORRINE JACKSON THIS YEAR'S VISITING WRITER
The Humanities Division is hosting a series of Visiting Writer events on Wednesday, November 13, and Thursday, November 14. On Wednesday, November 13, from 6:30 pm -8:30 pm, young-adult-fiction author Corrine Jackson will be the featured guest in the Campus Theatre, where she will read excerpts from her novels,Touched and If I Lie. Special musical guests will begin the evening and Jackson's books will be on sale. Tickets are $6.50 and include a book signing after the general discussion.

 

The next day, Jackson will hold an Open Forum from 3 pm - 4:00 pm in room 521. Admission is free and classes are welcome.

WORKFORCE CENTER HOSTING JOB FAIR ON NOVEMBER 6

The Workforce Center is hosting a Career Fair on Wednesday, November 6 from 10 am - 2pm on the Quad. Over 35 employers have signed up to participate. This is a great networking opportunity for students looking for jobs. Students attending the career fair are also encouraged to bring resumes to leave behind with potential employers. 

HOMETOWN HOLIDAY ALL-CAMPUS PARTY ON DECEMBER 10

This year's all-campus holiday party is scheduled for Tuesday, December 10 from 2 pm - 4 pm in rooms 224-228. A similar party will be held for evening staff from 10 pm - 11 pm in the Old Staff Dining Room. The theme for both is Hometown Holiday - Celebrate the Centennial Holiday Season.

 

Those interested in helping plan the event are asked to attend a meeting on Thursday, November 7 at 10 am in PCR-A.

HEALTH SERVICES OFFERING FLU VACCINE TO FACULTY, STAFF, AND STUDENTS
Health Services is offering the flu vaccine Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 9 am - 12 noon and 1 pm - 6 pm; and Fridays from 9 am - 12 noon. No appointment is necessary and the vaccine is free of charge for students and $20 for current faculty and staff.   
 
At risk for the flu are children younger than five, but especially children younger than two, adults 65 and older, pregnant women, and people with certain medical conditions.

SALVATION ARMY FOOD DRIVE NETS HEALTHY PROFIT FOR FOOD BANK
The recent Salvation Army shoe drive raised $459 in support of the Chris Lamm Memorial Food Bank. The Salvation Army donated $.75 per pound of shoes collected and the donation will be used to purchase more food for Fullerton College students. In the end,  the Salvation Army has more shoes for the needy; and you have cleaner closets.
NEW SERIES OF FLIPPED EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOPS OFFERED TO FACULTY AND STAFF

The staff Development Office is hosting a series of Flipped educational technology workshops, led by faculty members Gary Graves, Deidre Hughes, Darnell Kemp, Valerie Hannah, and Cory Thomas. The series is unique in that participants are asked to watch videos prior to the workshop so that the session time may be used for hands-on learing.

 

The first workshop, BYOD: Integrating Mobile Devices in the Classroom, will take place on Thursday, November 14 at 2:30 pm in the Teaching and Learning Effectiveness Center. Participants will learn how to use Socrative, Remind 101, Teachers.io, and Quizlet in the classroom. Register using the Staff Development calendar in MyGateway.

DON'T FORGET TO RIDESHARE THIS WEEK! 
The Annual Rideshare Survey Week is taking place this week, Monday, November 4 through Friday, November 8, so make plans to rideshare! Surveys will be in campus mailboxes on today. The survey takes only a few minutes to fill out and needs to then be returned to Jami Ebright in the Bursar's Office. The college needs a 90% survey response rate. 
STAFF AND FACULTY ENCOURAGED TO "ADOPT AN ANGEL" IN SUPPORT OF STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES
EOPS/CARE and CalWORKs are currently in the planning stages for their annual "Adopt an Angel" Student-Parent Holiday Party, scheduled for Friday, December 13. Those wishing to participate by adopting a child may do so by stopping by the EOPS Office beginning on Wednesday, November 6 to adopt an "angel." Gifts may then be brought to the EOPS Office beginning Monday, December 2 through Tuesday, December 10. Tax-deductible donations are also welcomed. Checks may be made out to "Fullerton College."
STAFF DEVELOPMENT TO OFFER A SERIES OF SHAREPOINT USER WORKSHOPS 
Beginning in February, a series of Getting Started with SharePoint workshops will be offered to all Fullerton College employees. Whether working as a team or individually, the SharePoint Web application helps organize Information and projects on a variety of electronic devices. DISTRICT STAFF DEVELOPMENT OFFERING REAL COLORS WORKSHOP TO ALL EMPLOYEES

The District Staff Development Committee is again offering Real Colors® workshops at Fullerton College, Cypress College, and the Anaheim Campus. Real Colors®

 

After successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize and appreciate their own unique blends of strengths and qualities
  • Recognize, appreciate and understand the unique blends of strengths and qualities of others
  • Identify and practice the skills necessary for enhanced communication by learning the most effective methods of speaking to different people
  • Incorporate into the workplace the skills learned in the course
  • Apply the powerful Real Colors® principles in all areas of their lives

FULLERTON COLLEGE ATHLETICS ROUND-UP

FOOTBALL: The #1 Hornets hosted Grossmont College on Saturday night and won big, 79-44, over the Griffins while breaking more records in the process.  Fullerton scored first and often, breaking the record for most points scored in a game.  The previous mark was 70 points in 2009 at Moorpark College.  Up Next:  Fullerton (8-0, 4-0) will play at Orange Coast College on Saturday, November 9 at LeBard Stadium at 6 pm. 


CROSS COUNTRY:
The Lady Hornets placed second overall at the 2013 Orange Empire Conference Cross Country Championships held at Irvine Regional Park on Friday.  The Hornet men took fifth place overall.  Up Next: The SoCal Championships at Central Park in Santa Clarita, California on Friday, November 8 at 10 am.

WOMEN'S GOLF:
The Lady Hornets placed second in the Orange Empire Conference after taking second out of eight teams in the final round of OEC competition at Twin Oaks Valley in San Marcos.  Out of nine OEC events, Fullerton has taken second place seven times and first once.  Up Next: The OEC conference finals at San Clemente Golf Course on November 4 & 6 at 10 am.

WOMEN'S WATER POLO: 
FC won both of their games at the Fullerton Mini Tourney on Friday knocking off Mt. SAC, 10-2 and L.A. Pierce, 13-3.  Up Next:  The Orange Empire Conference Championships November 7 - 9.

MEN'S WATER POLO:
Fullerton split their games at the Ventura Mini Tournament last Friday beating Mt. SAC, 12-10 and losing to Ventura College, 11-8.  Up Next: The Orange Empire Conference Championships November 8 - 9.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL:
The Lady Hornets dropped a tough one last Friday to Cypress College, 3-0 (25-14, 25-26, 25-23).  Up Next: Fullerton (12-4, 5-4) will try and pick it up when they travel to Saddleback College on Wednesday, November 6.  Game time is at 6 pm.

WOMEN'S SOCCER:
FC lost a close one 2-1 at home against Norco College last Friday.  Up Next: The Hornets (2-14-1, 2-10) will play at Santa Ana College on Tuesday, November 5.  Game time is at 1 pm.

MEN'S SOCCER: 
The Hornets pulled off a nice 4-1 win at Norco College last Friday.  Up Next: FC will play at Santa Ana College on Tuesday, November 5 at 3 pm.
