All Fullerton College faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend the upcoming Coffee with the Chancellor and Board of Trustees. The coffee is scheduled for Monday, November 25 at 10 am in rooms 224-228.

The coffee provides an opportunity to ask questions of district leadership in an informal environment. No RSVP is needed.
AUTHOR CORRINE JACKSON THIS YEAR'S VISITING WRITER
The Humanities Division is hosting a series of Visiting Writer events on Wednesday, November 13, and Thursday, November 14. On Wednesday, November 13, from 6:30 pm -8:30 pm, young-adult-fiction author Corrine Jackson will be the featured guest in the Campus Theatre, where she will read excerpts from her novels,Touched and If I Lie. Special musical guests will begin the evening and Jackson's books will be on sale. Tickets are $6.50 and include a book signing after the general discussion.

 

The next day, Jackson will hold an Open Forum from 3 pm - 4:00 pm in room 521. Admission is free and classes are welcome.

LA XILOGRAFIA COLLABORATIVE EXHIBITION ON DISPLAY AT FULLERTON COLLEGE ART GALLERY

La Xilografia, a collaborative exhibition between Fullerton College and the Muckenthaler Cultural Center, is on display at the Fullerton College Art Gallery through Thursday, November 21. The exhibit features works by Ra�l Anguiano, Sonia Romero, Abel Alejandre, Daniel Gonzalez, Artemio Rodriguez, and others. Their work uses many of the same traditional techniques developed by their predecessors in centuries past, but is informed by contemporary aesthetics sensibilities and social conditions. HEALTH SERVICES OFFERING FLU VACCINE TO FACULTY, STAFF, AND STUDENTS
Health Services is offering the flu vaccine Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 9 am - 12 noon and 1 pm - 6 pm; and Fridays from 9 am - 12 noon. No appointment is necessary and the vaccine is free of charge for students and $20 for current faculty and staff.   
 
At risk for the flu are children younger than five, but especially children younger than two, adults 65 and older, pregnant women, and people with certain medical conditions.

RIDESHARE WEEK IS APPROACHING - GET READY! 
The Annual Rideshare Survey Week will take place on Monday, November 4 through Friday, November 8, so make plans to rideshare! Surveys will be in campus mailboxes on Monday, November 4. The survey takes only a few minutes to fill out and needs to then be returned to Jami Ebright in the Bursar's Office. The college needs a 90% survey response rate. 
ANNUAL DIA DE LOS MUERTOS EVENT THIS THURSDAY
Fullerton College is hosting its Annual Dia de Los Muertos Celebration this Thursday, October 31, from 6 pm - 10 pm on the Quad.  This year's event is being co-sponsored with the Muckenthaler Cultural Center.

This traditional Mexican holiday honors the dead with altars and ofrendas in their memory. There will be food, music, face-painting, vendors and dancing. The evening is open to families and friends in the surrounding community.

This year's event will include a special offrenda in honor of retired faculty member Dr. Chris Lamm, who passed away in June. Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to contribute a special memory, flowers, foods, etc. to the offrenda. If interested, please bring your items to Adela Lopez who will be on the Quad the day of the event, beginning at 3 pm. 
STAFF AND FACULTY ENCOURAGED TO "ADOPT AN ANGEL" IN SUPPORT OF STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES
EOPS/CARE and CalWORKs are currently in the planning stages for their annual "Adopt an Angel" Student-Parent Holiday Party, scheduled for Friday, December 13. Those wishing to participate by adopting a child may do so by stopping by the EOPS Office beginning on Wednesday, November 6 to adopt an "angel." Gifts may then be brought to the EOPS Office beginning Monday, December 2 through Tuesday, December 10. Tax-deductible donations are also welcomed. Checks may be made out to "Fullerton College."
FULLERTON COLLEGE JOURNALISM STUDENTS PERFORM WELL AT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CONFERENCE 
Several Fullerton College journalism students represented the college well at the recent Association of Community College's Southern California Regional Conference. Roughly 400 attendees from community colleges from Bakersfield to Chula Vista took part in the two-day conference held at Cal State Fullerton.

Both The Hornet and Torch magazine again took home the top awards of General Excellence in both newspaper and magazine categories at the conference.  Myra Vitela earned third place for "Magazine Cover Design" and fourth place for "Overall Design" for the Torch magazine. Mark Sutton and Delton Valentine earned fourth-place honors for "Inside Page Layout." 

Further, students and advisers alike praised and were highly interested in La Antorcha, the college's Spanish-language publication. Fullerton remains the only school to have a student produced publication in Spanish.  
DISTRICT STAFF DEVELOPMENT OFFERING REAL COLORS WORKSHOP TO ALL EMPLOYEES

The District Staff Development Committee is again offering Real Colors� workshops at Fullerton College, Cypress College, and the Anaheim Campus. Real Colors�

 

After successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize and appreciate their own unique blends of strengths and qualities
  • Recognize, appreciate and understand the unique blends of strengths and qualities of others
  • Identify and practice the skills necessary for enhanced communication by learning the most effective methods of speaking to different people
  • Incorporate into the workplace the skills learned in the course
  • Apply the powerful Real Colors� principles in all areas of their lives

FULLERTON COLLEGE ATHLETICS ROUND-UP
FOOTBALL: Palomar's hopes of upsetting the J.C. Grid-Wire's nationally No. 3-ranked team, Fullerton College, lasted for a little over two quarters on Saturday afternoon. Fullerton (7-0, 3-0 in the Southern Conference), leading 17-13 at the half, took advantage of a blocked punt early in the third quarter to stretch its lead to 11 points. The Hornets then blew the game open with a 21-0 run in the quarter and went on to down the Comets 45-20 at Wilson Stadium.  Up Next: The Hornets will host Grossmont College for another SCFA Southern Conference showdown on Saturday, November 2.  Kickoff is 6 pm.  

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL:
After suffering a tough loss to Irvine Valley College on Wednesday, the Lady Hornets picked themselves back up, sweeping Santa Ana College 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-21) on Friday night in a much-needed conference road game.  Up Next: Fullerton (12-2 overall, 5-2 conference) will host district rival Cypress College this Wednesday, October 30 at 6 pm.

WOMEN'S WATER POLO:
The FC women's water polo squad took part in the Long Beach City College Tournament over the weekend winning three out of four games.  FC opened up the first day beating Long Beach 13-5 and Los Angeles Valley 14-5.  On day two, Fullerton dropped one to Riverside 31-7 and then pulled off a close win over Mt. SAC 13-12.  Up Next: The Hornets (22-3, 3-2) will host Saddleback College this Wednesday, October 30 at 3 pm.

MEN'S SOCCER: 
The Hornets lost to Golden West 2-0 for the second time this season last Friday on the road.  Up Next:  FC (8-5-2, 3-3-2) will play at Irvine Valley College on Tuesday, October 29 at 3 pm.

WOMEN'S GOLF:
The Hornets placed second overall at San Clemente for the Orange Empire Conference competition #8.  Freshman Nea Bennett had the best score on the day for Fullerton shooting a 79.  The FC team is right in the thick of the competition as they are now 47-9 overall placing second place in seven of the eight OEC events. Up Next: The Hornets will take part in an OEC tournament at Win Oaks Valley Golf Course hosted by Palomar.
