In an effort to encourage communication and strengthen teamwork across campus, President Rajen Vurdien has scheduled a series of Open Forums. The next forum is schedule for today, Monday, October 21 at 2 pm in room 224. All faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion.  The full schedule of forums is available at http://www.fullcoll.edu/president/presidents-open-forum.

TRANSFER AWARENESS WEEK: SHOW YOUR SCHOOL COLORS! 
Each year, the Transfer Center coordinates Transfer Awareness Week to remind students about the importance of planning for transfer. This semester's event is taking place this week, October 21 through October 25. 

 

Faculty and staff are asked to help spread the word by wearing clothing from your alma mater throughout the week. Those that participate are asked to stop by the Transfer Center to earn a point for their department. The department with the most points will win a prize!

STAFF AND FACULTY ENCOURAGED TO "ADOPT AN ANGEL" IN SUPPORT OF STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES
EOPS/CARE and CalWORKs are currently in the planning stages for their annual "Adopt an Angel" Student-Parent Holiday Party, scheduled for Friday, December 13. Those wishing to participate by adopting a child may do so by stopping by the EOPS Office beginning on Wednesday, November 6 to adopt an "angel." Gifts may then be brought to the EOPS Office beginning Monday, December 2 through Tuesday, December 10. Tax-deductible donations are also welcomed. Checks may be made out to "Fullerton College."
ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE PROGRAM ALIGNS DEGREE PROGRAMS WITH UNIVERSITY OF PHOENIX
The Fullerton College Administration of Justice and University of Phoenix Criminal Justice programs have aligned degree programs between the two institutions.  Fullerton College students completing either the AA Degree in Administration of Justice or the AS-T Degree in Administration of Justice can expect a seamless transfer with maximum credit and enrollment fee discounts when transferring to the University of Phoenix.

Highlighting this new career pathway will be the focus of a presentation on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 from 9:30 am -11 am in room 224. Both Fullerton and University of Phoenix staff will be on hand to answer questions. A panel discussion featuring professionals employed in  local, state, federal, and county criminal justice occupations will take place at 10 am. The Honorable Margery Melvin (State of California) will serve as moderator.
PHI THETA KAPPA HOSTING EXHIBITION DURING NOVEMBER DOWNTOWN FULLERTON ART WALK
The Fullerton College chapter of Phi Theta Kappa is hosting an art exhibit at the Hibbleton Gallery in downtown Fullerton for the November Art Walk, taking place on Friday, November 1. The students are working Hope University, a non-profit that makes art and music featuring adults with developmental disabilities.   The exhibit will feature art from twenty of the program's very talented artists. PTK has also partnered with Cerritos College for Make a Difference day, on Friday, October 25. Students from both schools will volunteer at Giving Children Hope, whose mission is to get food to hungry children. 
ANNUAL DIA DE LOS MUERTOS WILL FEATURE SPECIAL TRIBUTE TO DR. CHRIS LAMM
Fullerton College is hosting its Annual Dia de Los Muertos Celebration, on Thursday, October 31, from 6 pm - 10 pm on the Quad.  This year's event is being co-sponsored with the Muckenthaler Cultural Center.

This traditional Mexican holiday honors the dead with altars and ofrendas in their memory. There will be food, music, face-painting, vendors and dancing. The evening is open to families and friends in the surrounding community.

This year's event will include a special offrenda in honor of retired faculty member Dr. Chris Lamm, who passed away in June. Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to contribute a special memory, flowers, foods, etc. to the offrenda. If interested, please contact Adela Lopez.
VETERANS RESOURCE CENTER HOSTING MEDICAL OCCUPATIONS WORKSHOP
The Veterans Resource Center (VRC) is hosting a workshop for veterans and non-veterans on Friday, October 25 at 9:30 am in VRC (room 518). The commander of the surgery team at Fort Bliss will discuss medical occupations in both the military and civilian arenas.

The VRC is winding up its third annual Care Package drive. Stop by the VRC to learn how to help students whose colleagues are still deployed. Detailed information may be found at this link.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY
The annual Fullerton College Holiday Party is scheduled for Tuesday, December 10. A planning committee is currently being assembled and interested volunteers are encouraged to attend the first planning meeting on Thursday, October 24 at 11 am in PCR-A.
DISABILITY SUPPORT SERVICES FUNDRAISER ENDS ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5
The annual Disability Support Services See's Candy Fundraiser is ending on Tuesday, November 5. Funds raised from the sales of candy will be used to award scholarships. Please note that the prices available through the fundraiser are cheaper than those in the store.Order forms are available here.
FULLERTON COLLEGE ATHLETICS ROUND-UP
FOOTBALL: The FC football team pulled off some second half magic at Saddleback College, beating the Gauchos 48-44.  With the conference title on the line, the Hornets fell behind early as Saddleback piled it on thick taking a generous 37-17 lead by the 3rd quarter. With a firm lead throughout the game, the Gauchos let the Hornets creep back with 4 minutes left in the game when RB Lavorrie Johnson broke free on a 92 yard touchdown run giving the Hornets hope trailing 44-41.  Fullerton forced Saddleback's hand getting the ball back after three plays.  Pinned back on their own five yard line, the Hornets went for it on fourth down. QB Jose Escobar dumped the ball off to WR Eli Pleasant and he danced 92 yards to the end zone stunning the home crowd at the Snake Pit. UpNext:  FC (6-0 overall, 2-0 conference) will hit the road again next Saturday, October 26 at Palomar College.  Kickoff is 1 pm.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: After suffering their first loss of the season last Wednesday to Golden West College, the Hornets bounced back sweeping Riverside City College 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-18) at home last Friday night.  Up Next: Fullerton (11-1. 4-1) will hit the road against Irvine Valley College on Wednesday, October 23 at 6 pm.

MEN'S WATER POLO: The Hornets held off Santa Monica College 9-6 on the road last Friday in a non-conference match-up.  Up Next: Fullerton (14-4, 3-1) will play at Riverside City College this Wednesday, October 23 at 4 pm.

WOMEN'S SOCCER: The Hornets fell at Irvine Valley College on Friday 3-0 in an Orange Empire Conference match-up.  Up Next:  FC (2-11, 2-7) will try and get one in the win column this Tuesday, October 22 at Golden West College.  Game time is 3 pm.

MEN'S SOCCER: The FC men's soccer team played to a 0-0 tie on Friday at Orange Coast College.  Up Next: FC (8-3-2, 3-1-2) will host Santiago Canyon College this Tuesday, October 22 at 3 pm.
