FULLERTON COLLEGE PARTICIPATING IN CAMPUS-WIDE EVACUATION AS PART OF THE GREAT SHAKEOUT
On Thursday, October 17 at 10:17 am, Fullerton College will again be participating in The Great Shakeout, California's state-wide earthquake drill! This drill serves as a reminder that everyone should always be prepared for the "Big One," which could happen at any time.

Faculty who have class at 10:17 am are asked to have their students, "Drop, Cover, and Hold On!" The college will then participate in a campus-wide evacuation exercise. Campus Safety will provide each division and department with evacuation instructions.

For more information on earthquake preparedness, visit www.shakeout.org.

FULLERTON COLLEGE LIBRARY SPONSORING CENTENNIAL ART CONTEST
The Fullerton College Library is sponsoring a Centennial Art Contest which involves the using "old" catalog cards to create an art piece that upcycles these nostalgic library search tools. Instructors are encouraged to offer extra credit to students who participate in the contest. The deadline to submit entries is Friday, November 8.

Interested students may select up to 100 20th century catalog cards from the library reference desk. Catalog cards must be incorporated into the art piece, and some part of the card verbiage is required to be visible. Winning entries will be displayed in the library. One entry per student.

For more information, contact Monique Delatte Starkey.
WOMEN IN STEM SEMINAR ON OCTOBER 17
Fullerton College graduate and current Chapman University student Luz Jimenez Vela will speak to students interested in STEM at a special event taking place on Thursday, October 17 at 4:30 pm.

While at Fullerton, Jimenez was awarded the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke scholarship and last summer, was a intern at the Europe Orgazination for Nuclear Research in Switzerland.

Men outnumber women in most STEM careers. Currenlty, only 17% of chemical engineers and 22% of environmental scientists are women. Companies want to hire and keep qualified female employees so the future is bright.
