The NOCCCD has retained a team of community college district experts to survey the external community on the public's interest in, and potential community priorities for, an NOCCCD education bond which could improve your work environment and the academic experience we provide to our students.  Your early perspectives, ideas, and suggestions are essential to this process.  Come meet our team to learn about the process, address what you feel any potential bond projects or priorities should be, and share your perspectives and opinions on this effort.

PRESIDENT'S FORUM: TIME CHANGE
In an effort to encourage communication and strengthen teamwork across campus, President Rajen Vurdien has scheduled a series of Open Forums. The next forum is today, Monday, September 16 at 2:30 pm in room 224. All faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion.  The full schedule of forums is available at http://www.fullcoll.edu/president/presidents-open-forum.

TOWN HALL REGARDING PROPOSED VICE CHANCELLOR OF EDUCATIONAL SERVICES AND TECHNOLOGY
Dr. Ned Doffoney, Chancellor, is holding a town hall meeting at Fullerton College, room 224, on Tuesday, September 17 from 2 pm to 3 pm to receive feedback from faculty, staff, students, and management on the proposed job description for the position of Vice Chancellor of Educational Services and Technology.  All are invited to attend and participate.
FULLERTON COLLEGE FALL ENROLLMENT
Census was Monday, September 9, and on that day Fullerton College had 98% of available seats filled. The college's current unduplicated headcount is 24,613 as compared to last year at 20,814 - this is an increase of 28% over last year.
POLITICAL SCIENCE ASSOCIATION HOSTING FILM SCREENING
This afternoon at 3:30 pm in room 1440, the Political Science Student Association (PSSA) is screening the documentary film, A Place at the Table,  which focuses on hunger in America.  After the film, Mark Lowry,
Executive Director of the Orange County Food Bank will discuss how hunger is affecting the Orange County community.


PSSA is also issuing a club challenge to see which student club can bring in the most donations for the Chris Lamm Memorial Food Bank. Collection boxes are available around campus.

TENTH ANNUAL BIENVENIDOS CELEBRATION THIS TUESDAY

The Cadena Cultural Center and Latino Faculty & Staff Association are hosting the 10th Annual �Bienvenidos! on Tuesday, September 17. The event celebrates the opening of Hispanic (Latino) Heritage Month.

 

�Feria!  (Fair)     10 am - 1 pm in the Quad

With a Latino student population of nearly 50%, Fullerton College is not only a Hispanic Serving Institution, but Latinos now comprise our largest ethnic group! We celebrate our Latino community with our "Feria" - a fair that emphasizes our student services as well as our Latino student clubs, programs, and departments. In addition, we will have guest of student support programs from UCLA and CSU Fullerton. The Latino Faculty and Staff Association is sponsoring a free nacho bar and Latino music will be played on the quad.

 

Main Event         12 noon - 1:30 pm in the College Center

In honor of the FC Centennial, the Latino Faculty & Staff Association has invited Fullerton College alumni from the 1960's to the present, to return to FC and be part of a panel to discuss the history of Latinos at Fullerton College through their own lived experiences.

CELEBRATE THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF CLASSES AT 1913 DAY
This September marks the 100th anniversary of the first classes held at Fullerton College. On Wednesday, September 25 the Quad will be transformed into small-town America with quilting bees, cracker barrels, and performances from the musical Ragtime. Faculty will also discuss life and academia in 1913. The event will take place from 11 am - 1 pm and 5 pm - 7 pm. For more information click here.
STAFF DEVELOPMENT HOSTING BLACKBOARD WORKSHOP

Staff Development is hosting a series of Blackboard workshops and open labs. Both will cover the features and use of the Full Grade Center, including viewing and editing grades, managing columns and student view, download and back-up. The workshop will be held on Tuesday, September 17 and the lab on Tuesday, September 24. Both will take place at 2 pm in the TEC.

LIVE WIRE LITERARY JOURNAL DEBUTS THIS WEDNESDAY
Fullerton College's Live Wire Literary Journal will have its launch party as part of college's Centennial celebration.  Authors and artists published in the journal will read and display their work. The college community is invited to attend the event on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 in room 224 from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm.  Journals will be sold for $5.00. More information can be found on Live Wire's Facebook page.
OPEN ENROLLMENT: SEPTEMBER 16 - OCTOBER 11
Monday, September 16 through Friday, October 11 has been designated as the NOCCCD Open Enrollment period for health, dental and vision plans available through the District's Optional Fringe Benefit Program.  Open enrollment materials will be delivered through campus mail and will be arriving via campus within the next few days.

 

To assist in planning, the District Office of Human Resources/Benefits Office will be sponsoring Open Enrollment Health Fairs at each campus.

FOOD BANK SPONSORING SHOE DRIVE WITH SALVATION ARMY
The Fullerton College Chris Lamm Memorial Food Bank and the Anaheim Salvation Army are sponsoring a Shoe Drive. There are currently collection boxes on campus to collect shoes that will be donated to the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army will give the Food Bank $.75 per pound of shoes collected. The collection will take place during the month of September.

So dig through your closet and pull out those shoes you no longer wear. Drop them in one of the collection boxes to help us feed some of our neediest students. If you have any questions, please contact Toni DuBois.

FULLERTON COLLEGE ATHLETICS ROUND-UP

FOOTBALL: The Hornets came out firing at Cerritos College Saturday night cutting down the Falcons 38-14.  FC QB Jose Escobar had another solid outing going 21-27 for 283 with 4 TDs (3 pass/1 rush) with 1 interception. Escobar also rushed for 44 yards on 3 carries.  Up Next:  The Hornets (2-0) will host Bakersfield College at Yorba Linda High School's Shapell Stadium on Saturday, September 21 at 6 pm.

 

WOMEN'S WATER POLO: The women's water polo squad made a big splash over the weekend becoming the Saddleback Invitational champions after sweeping the competition.  Up Next: Fullerton (4-0) will open up conference-play at Orange Coast College on Wednesday, September 18.  Game time is 3 pm.

 

CROSS COUNTRY: The Hornets ran well at the SoCal Preview hosted by College of the Canyons on Friday.  The women's team placed 9th overall out of 30 teams while the men's team placed 17th out of 30 teams. 

 

MEN'S SOCCER: The Hornets kept East L.A. College in check on Friday winning 3-2.  Up Next: FC (3-1) will hit the road against the College of the Desert this Tuesday, September 17.  Game time is 4 pm. 

 

WOMEN'S SOCCER:  Fullerton lost a tough at home on Friday as they fell to Mt. San Jacinto College 2-0.  Up Next:  The Hornets (0-4) will try and lock down their first win on the season when they travel to Irvine Valley College for the conference opener this Tuesday, September 17.  Game time is 3 pm.
