FULLERTON COLLEGE CENTENNIAL KICKS-OFF THIS WEEKEND!
This Saturday, April 27, Fullerton College will officially kick-off its Centennial with the opening of Legends and Legacies: The First 100 Years of Fullerton College. Running through July 14 at the Fullerton Museum Center, the exhibit explores the historical, social, and cultural growth of the college and its relationship with Orange County through personal histories and collections. Legends and Legacies also observes the growing role of technology in contemporary education and asks what the future of higher education should be.

 

An opening reception will take place this Saturday 6 pm and will include live entertainment, light refreshments, and a discussion with curators Carlota Haider and Christina Hasenberg. Tickets are $10 for the general public and free for museum members.  To pre-purchase tickets, visit the Campus Box Office between 9:30 am - 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday.

SUMMER SESSION 2013 INFORMATION

This summer, Fullerton College is offering more than 500 classes - the largest in the college's summer session history! The first session will begin on Monday, June 10, with two additional sessions slated for Monday, June 17 and Monday, July 15. The class schedule will be posted to the college website on Wednesday, May 1 and in the Bookstore on Tuesday, May 6 - just in time for registration which begins on Tuesday, May 7. Admissions & Records has been busy processing applications for the past month and is on track to have registration appointment times posted to MyGateway on Tuesday, April 16.

 

Please encourage students to refer to the online schedule instead of waiting for the hard copy to arrive in the Bookstore. A summer school information booth will be on the Quad over the next few weeks with additional information. 

NOCCCD BUDGET CENTRAL

Budget Central The NOCCCD Budget Allocation Model will be presented to the campus at a campus forum on Tuesday, April 30 at 3 pm in room 410. The forum will be moderated by Fred Williams, Vice Chancellor of Finance & Facilities, and Rodrigo Garcia, Interim District Director of Fiscal Affairs.

 

The forum is open to all who wish to better understand how funds are allocated throughout the district.

KINDERCAMINATA EVENT IN NEED OF TOUR GUIDES

KinderCaminata, scheduled for Friday, April 26,  is in need of staff and faculty tour guides. Multiple orientations will be held during the week of April 22. To view volunteer descriptions and an orientation schedule, click here

CELEBRATE WORLDFEST THIS THURSDAY

This Thursday, April 25, from 10 am - 2 pm on the Quad, Fullerton College will celebrate its inaugural Worldfest! The event, formally known as the Festival of Diversity, will emphasize the importance of having a global perspective when it comes to issues of culture and diversity, as well as, issues relating to the Earth, including sustainability, the environment, and the impact these have upon our global communities.

 

Worldfest will feature six "villages" focusing on Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, Middle East, and Oceania. There will also be food, music, dancing, and art.
28TH BIANNUAL VISITING POET: CONSTANCE EGGERS
The Humanities Division presents the 28th Biannual Visiting Poet Event, featuring Constance Eggers, on Wednesday, April 24 at 6:30 pm in the Campus Theatre. Tickets are $6.50 and available at the Box Office.

Although she has been writing since she could pick up a pencil and form letters, Eggers waited until she was 41 years old to begin submitting her poetry for publication. Before retiring from teaching full time in 2009, she taught English composition and literature to secondary and college-level students for 34 years. Her chapbook, Reliquary, was published by Finishing Line Press in 2012. Her poems have also appeared in Faultline, Jeopardy, The Seattle Review, The MacGuffin, Pudding, The Wilshire Review, Creative Transformation, and Soundings. Constance is currently the book review coordinator and a member of the editorial collective for Calyx: A Journal of Art and Literature by Women.
SECOND ANNUAL ASIAN  & PACIFIC ISLANDER FORUM NEXT MONDAY
The Cadena Cultural Center, Asian Pacific Islander Faculty & Staff Association, Ethnic Studies Department, and the District Staff Development Committee are hosting the annual Asian & Pacific Islander Forum on Monday, April 29 at 11:45 am in room 224.  

 

The forum will include keynote speaker, Curtis Chin, who produced the documentary Vincent Who? which tells the story of Vincent Chin, 27, who was murdered in Detroit in 1982. The men who killed him were only sentenced to three years of probation and fined $3,000. Remember Vincent Chin became a rallying cry for Asian-Americans who protested in cities across the country. Students will have the opportunity to break into group discussions after the keynote address.

 

The event is open to all NOCCCD employees with manager approval as appropriate. To register, access the district wide staff development registration calendar via MyGateway on the employee tab.

Biology professor Dr. Jo Wen Wu and History professor Dr. Anne Negus were recently honored by UC Irvine for having a significant impact on the lives of transfer students. They will be recognized at an Educator Recognition Reception in early May and will have their names added to an online "wall of fame."

 

The Fullerton College Library has a growing selection of juvenile books which support the Educational Studies and Child Development Departments. This year, the Library will will read from the books during Kindercaminata and also perform a series of puppet shows - be sure to stop by for a visit!

FULLERTON COLLEGE ATHLETICS ROUND-UP

BASEBALL: THE HORNETS ARE THE ORANGE EMPIRE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS! It's been 30 years since their last conference championship and the Fullerton College baseball team finally got one on Saturday afternoon beating Cypress College, 12-6, on the road to lock it up.  Up Next: The Hornets (24-10, 14-5) will host Golden West College on Tuesday, April 23. Game time is 2 pm.  

 

WOMEN'S TENNIS: GOING TO THE STATE FINAL FOUR!  The #4 women's tennis team Hornets brought down #3 Riverside City College 5-3 on Saturday advancing the Hornets to the State Finals!  Both teams went into the match sharing the Orange Empire Conference title.   The Hornets and Tigers faced off twice during the regular season each beating the other on their home turf.  Up Next: The Southern California Regional Champs will play in the State Tournament in Ojai, April 25-28.  

   

SWIM & DIVE: Both the FC men's and women's Swimming & Diving teams placed fifth at the Orange Empire Conference Championship swimming meet this past weekend. The women accumulated 316 points and the Men 293 points. All swimmers accomplished their best times throughout the 3-day competition. A team from Orange Empire Conference usually wins one of the State Championship or both titles each year.  Up Next: Breanna Burrows and Okran Omori have both qualified for the CCCAA State Championship Swimming Meet to be held at East L.A. Valley Natatorium, April 25-27.  Breanna qualified in the 50 and 100 breaststroke and Okran qualified in the 50 and 100 butterfly. They are both in the top 16 of the statewide rankings and join Justin Choi who qualified the previous weekend in the 3m diving competition.

 

TRACK & FIELD: Hornets are looking good in the Orange Empire Conference after competing at the OEC Prelims last Friday at Santa Ana College.  The day was a qualifying round for track events with the exception of the Final 10K.  A majority of the Hornets qualified for the OEC Finals next week.  All of the day's field events were contested as an OEC Final.  Up Next: The OEC Championships at Santa Ana College.  The field events will begin at 10 am and the track events at 2 pm.

 

SOFTBALL:  The Lady Hornets exploded with a flurry of runs last Friday beating Orange Coast College at home, 24-0.  Then on Saturday, Fullerton traveled up the Grapevine to Bakersfield College where the split a double-header.  In game one, FC lost a tight one 9-8.  In game two, Fullerton came out on fire beating the Renegades 14-6.  Up Next:  FC will host El Camino College today at 3 pm.

 

WOMEN'S WATER POLO: Players from the 2012 state runner-up water polo squad sign with four-year colleges:  Lindsey Catron - Cal State Monterey Bay, Saree Waugh Concordia, Brooke Sutcliff - Long Beach State, Becky Goss - San Diego State, and Marisa Solarte - Long Beach State.
