PRESIDENT'S ADVISORY COUNCIL SUMMARY

A summary of the March 13, 2013 PAC meeting follows:

Curriculum - The Curriculum Committee is working hard on the revision of courses and programs by March 20 to make the April DCCC agenda.

SLOs - The SLO report was sent electronically to ACCJC, and the DVD is being sent via overnight mail.

Accreditation - The follow-up report was sent to ACCJC last week, and the college will receive a letter from the Commission sometime in July.

Enrollment Management - A meeting request will be sent to the Enrollment Management workgroup so they can meet again and give a recommendation to PAC at a future meeting.

Budget - The council was given a copy of the district preliminary budget assumptions as of March 8, 2013. These numbers will change as new information is received from Sacramento.

Research - The Office of Institutional Research & Planning has been working on the annual report and with the Student Success Committee on the data for the student success programs on campus.

Strategic Plan/Fullerton College Planning Process - A copy of last year's Strategic Plan and the Strategic Action Plan template was sent to the Deans so they may work with their divisions, departments, and programs on action plans for 2013-2015. The Strategic Action Plans are due by April 15.

PBSC Mission, Purpose & Guidelines - The council endorsed PBSC's revised Mission, Purpose and Guidelines.

The Fullerton College Art Gallery is presenting Pieces and Parts, an exhibition featuring works by Joe Davidson, Jeffrey Frisch and David B. Jang, beginning Wednesday, March 20 through Wednesday, April 17. The unique exhibition highlights sculptural work created by assembly of smaller pieces and parts.

Though all conceived with the same basic concept, the style and ideas behind each artist's contributions to the exhibit are very different. Frisch's dreamVesselsare created intuitively referring to one's soul journey of dreams since both dreamVessels and dreams are assembled from seemingly unrelated elements creating a believably rearranged sense of reality.

Davidson, creates two- and three-dimensional work, which employs the use of cast everyday objects and the use of the repetitive gesture. Jang's process can be described as an exacting, fanciful, even obsessive re-appropriation of common materials-one in which he deconstructs, and re-constitutes industrial and commercial cast-offs to reveal new relationships between the object and the viewer.
WORKFORCE CENTER PREPARES STUDENTS FOR SPRING JOB FAIR WITH RESUME DAY

The Workforce Center is holding a spring Resume Day this Wednesday, March 20 from 10 am - 2 pm on the Quad. Human Resource representatives will be on hand to critique student resumes in preparation for the Job Fair, taking place on Wednesday, April 17 on the Quad from 10 am - 2 pm.

SAVE THE DATE: WORLDFEST 2013
The Cadena Cultural Center is planning this year's Worldfest, taking place on Thursday, April 25 from 10 am - 2 pm on the Quad. The group is still seeking volunteers to help create a series of villages focusing on Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, Middle East, Oceania, Mind, Body, & Spirit, and Global Issues.  For more information, visit the event website.
OCEAN OF PEARLS: FREE SCREENING AND DISCUSSION

Fullerton College Health Services, club iHEART, and the Cadena Transfer Center are sponsoring a free movie showing and discussion of Ocean of Pearls this Tuesday, March 19 from 3 pm-5 pm in room 410.

Ocean of Pearls is the story of a young man, Amit Singh, in search of happiness. Singh faces challenges in every aspect of his life while trying to achieve his dreams. When he gets the opportunity to become Chief Surgeon in Detroit, he faces discrimination first-hand as he watches his dreams dwindle due to his appearance. He struggles with how to manifest his goals given the injustice found in daily life. Internal conflicts arise as he deals with having to discover where he belongs, what his values are, and who he wants to be.

There will be free refreshments and a possible appearance by the lead actor, Omid Abtahi. All students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend and instructors are strongly encouraged to offer extra credit for students that participate. For more information, please contact Deanna Farsakh.
