SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS DISCONTINUED AS MEANS OF LOGGING ONTO MYGATEWAY
| |
Identity theft is a prevalent issue in today's technology-engaged environment. The North Orange County Community College District (NOCCCD) takes the risks associated with identity theft seriously and has taken steps to protect faculty, staff, and students.
Currently, one's Social Security Number (SSN) may be used to log onto myGateway. While this may be convenient, it is not necessarily a good security practice. Therefore, beginning on July 1, 2013, NOCCCD will discontinue the usage of SSNs as a way to sign onto the system. Instead, users will need to enter their eight digit student, faculty, or employee identification number.
For those who many not know their numbers, simply click on the Personal Information tab in myGateway and click on the What is my ID? link. Questions may be directed to ishelpdesk@nocccd.edu.

LIBRARY IMPLEMENTING EASIER OFF-CAMPUS ACCESS
|
The Fullerton College Library is gradually implementing EZproxy, which is a new system of database user authentication that simplifies off-campus access. EZproxy enables Fullerton College students, faculty, and staff to access library databases from home with four easy steps: 1) visit library.fullcoll.edu; 2) click "Find Articles;" 3) select a database; and 4) when presented with the EZproxy log-in screen, log-in using your Banner ID.
In the past, off-campus access required generic passwords (available only at the library), or use of a myGateway library channel. Neither solution, however, provided off-campus access to Springer eBooks. LexisNexis was only available off-campus via myGateway. In contrast, EZproxy enables off-campus access to every database to which the library subscribes. Purchased through a grant from the Fullerton College Foundation, this 21st century proxy server will be an easy adjustment for students and faculty, due to the intuitive design of the log-in screen. The library is coordinating with the district to complete implementation by the first day of spring semester classes.

NOCCCD BUDGET CENTRAL
|
Although Prop 30 passed and community colleges are receiving additional funding, NOCCCD will need to cut $3.8 million in one-time expenditures in order to balance the FY 2012/13 budget. On-going reductions of $5 million District-wide is also needed to balance the ongoing budget. Once each institution has identified their portion of the reductions, the virtual hiring freeze will be lifted.
