FULLERTON COLLEGE PARTICIPATING IN CAMPUS-WIDE EVACUATION AS PART OF THE GREAT SHAKEOUT

On Thursday, October 18 at 10:18 am, Fullerton College will again be participating in The Great Shakeout, California's state-wide earthquake drill! This drill serves as a reminder that everyone should always be prepared for the "Big One," which could happen at any time.

Faculty who have class at 10:18 am are asked to have their students, "Drop, Cover, and Hold On!" The college will then participate in a campus-wide evacuation exercise. Campus Safety will provide each division and department with evacuation instructions.

For more information on earthquake preparedness, visit www.shakeout.org.

FULLERTON COLLEGE FOUNDATION UNVEILS DONOR RECOGNITION WALLS
foundation donor wall On Saturday, September 29, the Fullerton College Foundation celebrated its 53rd anniversary with the dedication of two new Donor Recognition Walls located in the foyer of the college's Library-Learning Center. Honored guests in attendance included Foundation Founder Dr. H. Lynn Sheller's daughter, Paula Sheller Adams, and her husband Parks (pictured above).

The two recognition walls are dedicated to the donors who have made it possible for Fullerton College students to succeed in their educational goals.  Chuck Allen, Executive Director of the Foundation, said that "Without the generous support of our local community donors, we wouldn't be able to do the work that we do in helping students stay in school and achieve their educational goals."

Throughout its tenure, the Foundation has served the needs of Fullerton College Students. Approximately 11,000 Fullerton College students have been awarded more than $3 million in scholarships, loans and emergency grants.  This past May, 375 students received Foundation scholarships.

This fall, the Theatre Department is presenting One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, by Dale Wasserman, adapted from the novel by Ken Kesey and directed by Gary Krinke. Performances will be held in the Campus Theatre beginning Wednesday, October 24 through Saturday, October 27. Admission is $15 general and $12.50 for students and seniors.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest tells the story of an Oregon mental institution, whose brief encounter with a rebellious new patient named Randle McMurphy, sparks change. Through McMurphy's influence, a presumed deaf and dumb man speaks, patients are lead out of introversion, revolts are staged and power is fought for. But McMurchy's revolution against Big Nurse and everything she stands for quickly turns from amusing to an intense power struggle with shattering results.

Adapted for theatre in 1963 by Dale Wasserman from the 1962 novel by Ken Kesey, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest made its way to Broadway in 1963. It has since remained a favorite for its unique perspective on the institutional process and human behavior with overarching themes of madness, freedom and confinement, manipulation, rebellion and power.

The survey takes only a few minutes to fill out and needs to then be returned to Sandy March in the Business Office. The college needs a 90% survey response rate.
