The announcement was made at the annual Colossal Chamber Networking Event organized by the nine York Region Chambers of Commerce.

York Region chambers of commerce represent over 7500 member businesses. Each chamber recognizes business excellence at the local level with annual awards in areas such as Entrepreneurship, Innovation, or Environmental Leadership.

Participating chambers submitted two of their 2012 business excellence award recipients for the region-wide honour.  An independent team of volunteers reviewed the nominations and determined the recipients.

"The York Region Business Excellence Awards shine a spotlight on the achievements of exceptional businesses that have made a lasting impact in their community," stated Allan O'Dette, President & CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce. "The 2013 award recipients exemplify the kind of vision and leadership that strengthens Ontario's economy. I congratulate them."

York Region's Large Business of the Year, Royal LePage Your Community Realty was recognized by the Richmond Hill Chamber of Commerce with the Mayor's Award for their exemplary community service. Royal LePage Your Community Realty, Canada's largest Royal LePage brokerage, was started twenty years ago by Vivian Risi. More than 30 charities (hospitals, shelters, schools) benefit from her time, energy and leadership.

The Canadian Plastics Group Ltd, (CPG), founded over forty years ago by John Waddington, as Paragon Designs is York Region's Small Business of the Year. In the early 1990's, CPG shifted their focus from manufacturing store fixtures to vacuum thermoforming, CNC machining, bonding, fabrication, and assembly. The company was recognized by the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce with their 2012 Small Business Excellence Award.
