 Affordable Care Act Employer Mandate Postponed, but Many Rules Still Currently Applicable By Marcia Wagner President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law on March 23, 2010. Many of its requirements became effective at various times over the last three years: - Making health care coverage available to children of plan participants until they reach age 26.
- Eliminating lifetime limits and annual limits on essential health benefits (with certain exceptions for grandfathered plans).
- Revising claims procedures to comply with new rules.
The effective date for most of these provisions was the first day of the plan year beginning on or after September 23, 2010 (January 1, 2011 for calendar year plans). If you have not yet made these required plan amendments you should contact your employee benefits professional immediately.

Purpose/Usefulness:
GoToMeeting/GoToWebinar has always been an office standard if you're holding meetings over the internet, but they've never been fully compatible with today's technology - until now. Citrix has just released a new version of the popular program that makes it more functional for people that have Apple devices and Android devices. I know that most advisors have iPads so I took the liberty of joining a special webcast that went through all the new options available, and I have to say that it's impressive. You're now able to host a meeting directly from your mobile device and share content with everyone, whereas before you could only attend a meeting. You can also access the presentation panel to see who is on the call, who is presenting, and statistics. I must admit that the PC/Mac program has more to offer because it's the parent program, but this mobile version is a great stand-in when you need to be on the go.
Easier, Faster, Cheaper, Bigger:
Being able to use this program from your mobile device is not only making it easier for you to hold meetings, but it's also allowing you to expand your business by giving you the freedom hold those meetings virtually anywhere. You're no longer confined to holding these meetings in your office or carrying around a heavy laptop. Plus, the ability to start a conference in within a few swipes on your iPad in incredibly useful when you're in a bind.

 Surveys - A Goldmine of Great Information

One of the best ways to get answers to questions that you might have about your business, or your services or any number of other issues is to survey the people who can best answer your queries. Advisors use surveys in a variety of ways, such as querying clients about the level of services provided, executives on the visibility of the firm, referral sources on qualities that they value when referring business, employees about the firm's benefits package, etc. Surveys are an excellent public relations tool as well. Recipients are impressed when they find out that the advisor is interested in their opinions, especially since so few advisors bother to use surveys. Surveys also provide a benchmark and, when used on an on-going basis, can indicate the success or failure of a specific program or campaign. |
