Greetings from the sunshine of Sharm-el-Sheikh in Egypt. I'm currently enjoying a much needed break before what promises to be the busiest month of my year on my return. But I couldn't let you go without your latest edition of 'Connecting is not Enough' while I'm away!

It's a busy November and there are a couple of events I'm particularly looking forward to, both of which are open to the public.

Immediately after landing I repack my bags and head off to equally sunny Cardiff, where I'll be joining the likes of Suggs and good friends Steve Clarke, Shaa Wasmund, Deri Llewellyn Davies, Tracey Smolinksi and Derek Arden speaking at the Introbiz Expo at Cardiff City Stadium.

The organisers have done a fantastic job promoting the event, with our pictures plastered across poster sites, train stations and the backs of buses in Cardiff and Bristol. I hate to think how many crashes we've caused! The advertising seems to have done its job with 5,000 people expected over two days.

And of course, a couple of weeks later I'll be speaking at the event I've been working on over the last few months with a range of businesses and organisations in my local area. Ambition 2015 should be an excellent day of sales and marketing advice from some of the leading experts in the UK and all of the money raised goes to two charities.

Last week I was interviewed by the  start-up advice platform 'My Incubator Ventures' on Twitter. A 'Twinterview' if you will!

Video Tip: Is Networking a Positive Thing? BBC Radio 5 Live

A few years ago I participated in a panel debate on BBC 5 Live on whether networking is a positive thing.

The A to Z of Networking: N is for...

Networking, Networks and Networking Events - of course! But also:

Nurturing, not Neglecting Relationships
Networking is a long term strategy that can produce amazing rewards for both your career and/or your business. But that only happens when you build and nurture relationships, not only turning to people as and when you need them.

Keep connected to your network and make as many as possible of your touchpoints about them rather than about you.

Nerves
Feel nervous when entering networking events, approaching strangers or even asking someone you know well whether they will help you? If you do, you're not alone. Far from it.

Many of us feel those nerves. We are afraid of being judged, being rejected or being a nuisance. Rationalise those fears and feed positively from the nerves. You sometimes need to take uncomfortable steps to get extraordinary results.

N is also for...

Natural
Online and face-to-face be yourself. Don't put on an act, it's hard to maintain and often easy to see through.
Needy
Desperation is not an attractive trait! Share your vulnerabilities with your close network but don't be needy. There is a big difference between the two.
Notice
Pay attention to the person you're speaking to and look out for people in your network at all times.
Be Nice
Always respect people you interact with and treat them in a way that makes them want to see you more and be there for you.
New Contacts
Always be looking to build your network. If you feel it's strong enough already you can be selective but stay open to new connections.
Negativity
Leave it behind! If you carry your negativity into networking conversations it can do a lot of damage to both relationships and reputation.
Names and Notes
Remembering names is one of the biggest challenges facing most of us but keeping notes of the conversations we've had and promises we've made can make life easier.

Wow! A massive response this time out on Facebook, thanks everyone for the suggestions. I could almost do a two-parter for N!
Ideas came from: Keith Grinsted, Phil Shepherd, Paul Brown, Arvind Devalia, David Hyner, Ian Steel, Matt Purser, David McQueen, Laurence Lowne, Nigel Risner, Tracey Carr, Lee Warren, John Jameson, Claire Boyles, Rhiannon Evans, Jim Ewan, Barry Walker, Annabel Kaye, Andy Preston (NO!), Lottie Hearn Ross, Mike Segall, Tracey Smolinski, Jo Simpson, Tessa Hood, Anna Fiorentini and Shelley Jenner.

If you want to find out a number of the ideas that have missed out, check out the discussion on my profile on Facebook and the Facebook page

Just for Fun: Back to the Past

Last week we all enjoyed realising that we've reached the future (what now lies ahead?!). October 21st 2015 was, of course, Back to the Future Day and fortunately the cameras at The Jimmy Kimmel Show caught Marty McFly and Doc Brown's landing.

It looks like time travel aged them though...

What people say...
"It is great to work with a speaker like Andy who really wants to understand the audience he speaks to and tailors his content to them. It's also great to have all the post event content Andy prepared specifically for us and so quickly. It has been a pleasure to work with him."
