A few years ago Penny and Thomas Power wrote a book 'A Friend in Every City', sharing their belief that modern networking could mean that you could travel anywhere in the world and find a friendly welcome.
I certainly can vouch for that concept after my trip last week to Glasgow for The Commonwealth Games. Titled 'The Friendly Games', Glasgow certainly offered a warm welcome and it was great for me to catch up with a number of friends I've made over the years through speaking, through networking, through football and more.
Detractors of social networks constantly say that if you lose contact with people there is a reason for it. Sometimes the only reason is geography. I've stayed in touch with many of the people I saw through Facebook in the intervening time and it made it so easy to pick up where we had left off.
Thanks to Glasgow for putting on a fantastic show and for creating the opportunity for me to catch up with some great friends.

In the book, Simon looks at everything from building a strong network and networking in your job, to how to work the room or networking online. Throughout he turns to a number of people from his own network for their advice and experience, while Simon Ellinas created caricatures of each interviewee.
