The World Pipe Band Championships are on August 14th & 15th. According to the Worlds' website, there are 230 bands competing this year including overseas bands from Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the USA, Oman, the Republic of Ireland, Malaysia and Austria. 22 bands will be competing in the Grade 1 Pipe Bands category with Field Marshal Montgomery trying to win their 5th championship in a row. They have won 10 World Pipe Band Championships since 1992. There are 6 Canadian Bands competing in the Grade 1 competition: Dowco Triumph Street, Peel Regional Police, Simon Fraser University, Toronto Police, 78th Fraser Highlanders, and 78th Highlanders (Halifax Citadel).
