From Industrial Lubricants to Hair Care kits, Paket Corporation Has Moved as Markets Evolved

Paket Corporation began contract packaging in 1957, in an environment that today's copackers would barely recognize. Its primary packaging business was filling tubes of industrial lubricants that were included by machinery manufacturers in their starter kits for customers. It had no secondary packaging capability. Its capabilities included 9 tube fillers, 1 can filler and a few pouch fillers that were used to package a variety of food and industrial products.

For many years, this was a steady, reliable business. But industry is never static, and as technology changed, Paket's customer base began to decline.

New Polypack ATLAS CSS (Corrugated Sleeve and Shrink) System

Named after the mythological figure who bore the weight of the world on his shoulders, Polypack's new ATLAS CSS Corrugated Sleeve and Shrink System takes a unique approach to providing palletizing support. Instead of a traditional 6-panel RSC case, the CSS system uses a die-cut corrugated blank which is formed around the product on the 4 vertical sides. This tightly packed sleeve bundle is then wrapped in shrink wrap to enclose the case. The end result is a strong pack that can reduce corrugated material consumption up to 50% over traditional RSC cases.

Lessons learned from both sides of the contract 'fence'

Berkeley Contract Packaging, founded in 1992, provides all manner of secondary packaging services to leading companies in pharma, CPG, food and other sectors.

"One thing we're seeing is that more and more companies are talking to us about turnkey operations - especially larger companies - as they try to outsource more to reduce indirect costs. This was popular 10 years ago, and we didn't hear much about it for a while, but it certainly is back now." - Jack Concannon, VP and COO

Flexible Packaging Gets a Bad Wrap

Activists criticize it. Environmentalists decry it. Recyclers fear it. Consumers question it. Anyway you look at it, flexible packaging takes the heat. But is all this criticism justified? No. Flexible packaging offers many benefits, and those all-important benefits are often overlooked when we see a used package in our trash containers.
