New year, new term, new problems, new opportunities. It's all about the new at this time of year. What are your hopes for 2015? What would you wish for yourself in your personal life, your health, your career?
Goal setting is a great exercise for clarifying what we want to change in our lives. So how about thinking of one goal in each of the areas mentioned - personal life, health and career. Choose something achievable for you, that you can set your intention toward, and gear your actions toward. Neuroscience has shown us that the more we think a particular thought, the easier it is for us to have that thought again. Each time, the thought pathway is strengthened. So if we have positive t houghts, we become more positive and are more likely to achieve our goals. It's all about attitude. So choose goals that are possible for you, and every time the thought of that goal comes to you, practise a positive attitude towards the goal. "I can do this". The more you practise, the more you will believe that you can and greater the likelihood of success.
Good luck.

Heads of well-being in schools?
A recent report in the TES suggests that secondary schools should appoint a Head of Wellbeing for both staff and students. The task would be to monitor both physical and emotional health and provide strategies to deal with early warning signs.
"A study by think tank 2020health and the charity Nuffield Health found that creating such a role could improve exercise levels, reduce obesity and boost emotional health." (TES Connect)
This comes as welcome news after the bleak report a year ago from the charity YoungMinds. After polling 2,000 people between the ages of 11 and 25 about their experience of school, they raised awareness of the stresses experienced by young people. Many felt that they had no one to turn to for support. "We are sitting on a mental health time bomb," said Lucie Russell, director of YoungMinds' Campaigns & Media.
Teaching Emotional Wellbeing is needed more now than ever.
