Welcome

My daughter is in Year 10 and recently changed schools. The thing that impressed her most in the first few weeks at her new school was how kind everyone was, students and staff alike. There had been a distinct lack of kindness at her previous school. And often it feels like there is a lack of kindness generally in society.

13 November is World Kindness Day, and I'm sure many schools will be doing a special assembly or somehow bringing this theme into their school day. However let's bring kindness into our every day lives, let's practise kindness until it becomes a habit.

Emotional Wellbeing training days

Our next training day takes place in Bristol on Friday 14th November at Emmaus House in Bristol. We run these days regularly in London and Bristol and our feedback tells us that they are informative, inspiring and fun. Not only do you get a chance to develop your own emotional literacy and learn how to promote it in your setting, it is also an opportunity to meet up with others interested in this key aspect of education.

We still have some spaces on our Bristol day, please call 01249 409001 or to book online please click here.

"Thoroughly enjoyed the day. I didn't know what to expect but feel that all staff should have the opportunity to go on this course." L Gould

What do you like?

Adults and students alike are bombarded daily with slick advertising that cleverly tries to make us believe that their product or service will make us happy. This month's download is an opportunity to think about what truly makes us happy and why. There is no doubt that things can make us happy - I am thinking of having my phone surgically attached; I like it so much - but  of course there are deeper joys.

As well as a look at what makes us happy, students are asked to communicate with awareness, listening carefully and looking at body language as well as words.

Professor Richard Layard and his colleagues, when researching emotional wellbeing, discovered that the foundations of a happy adult are laid in childhood. This recent article in The Guardian makes interesting reading and you may want to share it and discuss it with your group/class. Click here to read.

Whole Education's 5th Annual Conference

On the 18th and 19th November in London, this is a catalyst to help both schools and our education system to fulfill our core moral purpose, enabling all young people to achieve their potential through an entitlement to a 'whole education'.

Facilitating the conference is Anthony Mackay, Co-Chair of the Global Education Leaders Programme and Chair of the Innovation Unit, UK. Internationally acclaimed education researcher, John Hattie, who is recognised as a master at figuring out what helps students to learn, will open the conference. Come along and see us at our exhibition stand.
