Welcome - Winter warmer

Cherokee The Indians asked their Chief in autumn if the winter was going to be cold or not. Not really knowing an answer, the chief replied that the winter was going to be cold and that the members of the village were to collect wood to be prepared. Being a good leader, he went to the next phone booth and called the National Weather Service and asked, "Is this winter to be cold?" The man on the phone responded, "This winter is going to be quite cold indeed." So the Chief went back to speed up his people to collect even more wood to be prepared.

A week later he called the National Weather Service again, "Is it going to be a very cold winter?" "Yes", the man replied, "it's going to be a very cold winter." So the Chief orders his people to find every scrap of wood they can. Two weeks later he calls the National Weather Service again: "Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?"

"Absolutely," the man replies, "the Indians are collecting wood like crazy!"

Whole Education

Whole Education, www.wholeeducation.org, is a partnership of like-minded schools, organisations and individuals that believe that all young people should have a fully rounded education, developing the knowledge, skills and qualities needed to help them thrive in life and work.

Vision Works for Schools has recently made the exciting decision to partner with this pioneering  organization and we look forward to working with them to improve education for our young people. Coming up on 19/20 November is their annual conference in London. If you see us there, please come and say hello!

Anti-bullying week - 18-22 November

Shaun Dellenty, deputy head and founder of the education charity, Inclusion for All, reports that inequality and homophobic bullying is still rife in schools - for teachers as well as pupils. He says, "A headteacher who openly supports a gay teacher is sending out a clear message to all a school's stakeholders that every teacher is valued as an individual. It also sends a message to the 10% of students who may turn out to be lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered that gay people can be accepted, happy and successful."

Bullying is born out of fear, and for teachers to take a stand on this issue requires courage. All those courageous teachers who are addressing this in schools to create a safer, more nurturing environment for our young people are making a difference. Click here for one of our resources to help you address bullying.
