BECK'S EXPANDS TERRITORY TO INCLUDE NINE STATES
JULY 22, 2015
Atlanta, Indiana – Beck’s, the largest
family-owned, retail seed company in the United
States, is pleased to announce a territory expansion
into new regions of Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin,
Michigan, Illinois and Ohio. This expansion adds
roughly 12 million acres of corn and soybeans to
Beck’s former marketing area to bring their total
reach to half of the corn and soybean acres in the
U.S. The continued growth will provide more Midwest
farmers access to the world’s most diverse genetics
and traits in corn and soybeans.
“Over the
last few years, more and more farmers have seen the
value in working with a seed company that is
family-owned, farmer-focused, and committed to
providing high yielding products,” said Scott Beck,
president of Beck’s. “With a world class breeding
program, a lineup of high-performing products,
innovative technologies, and a culture rooted in
family heritage, we are dedicated to helping farmers
succeed.”

HTS Ag's 20th Anniversary
Celebration & Technology Showcase |
|
|
HTS Ag is having an event in honor of the
20th anniversary of being in the
agricultural industry. HTS Ag entered
the world of precision agriculture early -
back in 1995 – before the technology was
really mainstream. The earliest form of the
current HTS Ag was originally called Western
Iowa GPS. The early years were focused on
aerial imagery, yield monitoring, soil
testing, mapping as well as some equipment
manufacturing and sales. The early part of
our GPS practice could be described as on
the bleeding edge – we learned a lot and
struggled to create a niche and definitely
any profit – we were just ahead of our time.
The team grew to four before we retooled in
early 2001, rolled the practice into our
mainstream business known as HTS Precision
Ag Solutions a division of Heartland
Technology Solutions and put the groundwork
in place for what we have today. HTS Ag is
now a privately owned, stand-alone company.
Today HTS Ag offers products and services
from industry leaders including Beck's
Hybrids, Ag Leader Technology, 360 Yield
Center, OPI Advanced Grain Management
Systems and more.

Attention Ag Leader ParaDyme or GeoSteer
owners that are also Glonass unlocked. We
wanted to let you know about an update that
occurred to the GPS system. On June 30th,
2015, a positive leap second was added to
the Universal Time Clock (UTC) for GNSS.
Adding this leap second will align the
Universal Time Clock with the Atomic Time
Clock, eliminating error caused by the
changing rotation of the Earth. This Leap
Second update has caused affected
Paradyme/Geosteer systems that are Glonass
unlocked, to not acquire differential GPS
properly. Ag Leader has released firmware
that fixes the problem. Your
Paradyme/Geosteer system WILL NOT function
until this firmware is installed. As with
all integrated steering firmware, this
firmware is only available to Ag Leader
dealers.

Airflow Rate is Key to the Natural Air Drying of Grain |
|
|
by Chandra B. Singh, Ph.D., P.Eng. and Ron Larson,
M.Sc., P.Eng.
Natural
air drying uses the drying potential of
unheated natural air to dry the damp/moist
grain to safe storage moisture levels.
Natural air drying minimizes energy
consumption and improves grain quality. The
success of natural air drying depends on
several factors such as seasonal local
weather conditions, initial grain moisture,
grain type, and in-bin aeration system
design. However, airflow rate is the key to
effective and timely drying of grain for
long term safe storage.

Now is the time to try Cover Crops |
|
|
by Ben Smith, Territory Manager-HTS Ag
If I told you that you can improve soil
health and microbial activity, reduce soil
compaction, increase soil organic matter,
reduce weed pressure, improve water
infiltration and drainage, increase soil
fertility, and reduce nutrients leaving your
fields and ending up in the water supply,
would you be interested? What if I also told
you that there are government cost share
dollars available that will pay 50-100% of
the cost of trying this practice? All of
this can be done by planting cover crops on
your farm this fall.

2015 Pro Farmer Midwest Crop Tour |
|
|
by Pro Farmer Editors
HTS
Ag team member
Terry Johnston, will be one of the crop
scout leaders on the western leg of the 2015
Pro Farmer Midwest Crop Tour, which
begins on Monday, August 17th. The western
scouts will start out at Sioux Falls, SD and
head west and the eastern scouts will start
out at Dayton, Ohio and head west.
The Pro Farmer Midwest Crop Tour’s primary
goal is to provide the industry with
accurate growing season information about
likely corn and soybean yields at the state
and regional levels during the upcoming
harvest season. Crop Tour’s data-gathering
methods are disciplined and produce
consistent results. The Tour’s crop scouts —
especially the new ones — receive formal
instruction before the Tour and training
from Tour veterans along the way.
