Make Informed Decisions with Data Management
by Garrett Buckley, HTS Ag
Data management can be a difficult task for one to
fully understand and use. Most farmers today have
some form of data management. It can be anything
from yield monitors to variable rate prescriptions,
or something else such as soil sampling. No matter
what technology or management solution you have it
can be used efficiently and as a benefit to your
farming operation. The key is to understand the
technology you have and how to get the best bang for
your buck.
When taking all of your precision
technologies and throwing them together at the end
of the year, what are your plans? How do they get
utilized for the best potential of your operation?

Tech Tip: Getting Ready for Harvest |
|
|
by Jeff Swearingen, HTS Ag
It is not too early to start thinking
about and getting the combine/yield monitor
ready for harvest. If we get these
pre-season checks done ahead of time, we can
beat the rush and do a more thorough job of
prepping and checking things out.
Assuming the monitor is in the combine and
we can power it up, then when the machine is
outside we should be getting a good GPS
signal to the monitor. This is signified by
the green satellite icon in the upper left
hand of the monitor screen.
You
should check to see that the blade on the
moisture sensor is not excessively worn.
Activating the proximity switch should cause
the auger on the EMU to run.

used with permission from OPI-Integris by
Chandra B. Singh, Ph.D., P.Eng. and Ron Larson,
M.Sc.
Sanitation
is one of the important steps in integrated
pest management. Clean grain loaded in to
clean bins can be safely stored for longer
duration. Therefore, this is the right time
to clean the storage bins and other
equipment before the hectic harvest season
starts.
