Sun Safety and Protecting Yourself from
the Damaging Effects |
|
|
by Paula Schnack
With planting season in full swing it is the
time of year that people, especially
farmers, spend time outside from sun up to
sun down. That sun can have some lasting
effects on us due to the damaging UVA & UVB
rays. That damage is caused by the radiation
that the sun gives off and when it
penetrates our skin it can cause damage in
the form of wrinkles, a tan, and even skin
cancer. A tan is said to be the skins way of
forming a barrier to the sun, but it is in
fact a sign of damage already done.
How can you protect yourself? »

Dryeration
is the process of high temperature grain
drying and subsequent cooling (aeration). In
dryeration, grain from high temperature
dryer is removed with 1-2% higher moisture
than desired for safe storage levels and
placed in tempering (also referred as heat
soaking, steeping, and steaming) bins and
then slowly aerated/cooled.
This
process has been mainly adopted in corn
drying which results in improved grain
quality, color, and reduced kernel damage
thus increased storage life. Stress cracks
develop when high moisture grain is exposed
to high temperatures in grain dryer and then
cooled immediately after drying is finished.
Stopping high temper drying sooner (1-2%
above target) also increases dryer capacity
and reduces energy consumption thus drying
cost.

Tech Tip: Norac Sensor Calibration |
|
|
by Brandon Shaw, HTS
For customers running a Norac boom height
control system, it is recommended to send in
all of your sensors once per year to Norac.
If the sensors are not calibrated, the booms
may not react properly. Norac will
recalibrate the sensors each year for free
to make sure that they are tuned correctly.
If a bad transducer is found or the entire
sensor is bad, Norac will give a repair or
replacement estimate.
You may contact
Norac directly at 1-866-306-6722, or call
HTS Ag at 712-794-7992 and we will be happy
to make arrangements for you.
