Maintaining Seed Germination and Vigor during
Storage |
|
|
used with permission from OPI-Integris
Seed
quality is determined by several factors
such as species and cultivar purity,
uniformity, seed density, contamination by
weeds, insects, fungi, moisture content,
germination, vigor, and storability. Most
laboratory tests for seed quality are
conducted for purity and physiological seed
quality (germination and vigor).
Seed
Germination
Germination
capacity of seed is expressed in terms of
germination percentage as determined in a
standard germination test performed under
optimum conditions with maximum germination
potential.

Tech Tip: 7 Ways to make Precision Technology
Pay |
|
|
by Tim Shanks, HTS Ag
These tools make
management techniques possible that help
keep crop production efficient and
cost-effective for most farmers. There are a
lot of ways to use precision technology and
make gains from it. The data collected can
be used to help overcome challenges and help
people do a better job on the farm.
1. Yield Maps
Yield maps are great for printing out
and determining where tile may be
needed, but they also serve as a
progress report for your field and farm.
They are also great for tracking
side-by-side data and yield histories.
Yield maps also help producers check the
success of various inputs. But keep in
mind that the data has to be good to be
useful. If your monitor isn’t calibrated
correctly and running at all times, then
your data isn’t going to be as good.
Remember, garbage in is also garbage
out!
