HP Technology at Work

Cellphones are a visible symptom of our addiction to technology. We use them for everything; we can’t be separated from them and we clutch at them constantly – even obsessively. Since habits and addictions often become automatic, it’s important to do a bit of self-analysis sometimes. Our all-important interactions with our cellphones can have a big impact on our professional image. Consider that colleague who is constantly rushing to the office bathroom or kitchen to have “personal” conversations which everyone can overhear anyway.

Here are a few simple office phone ethics to consider:

Microsoft Lync: How we use Microsoft's unified communications platform
by Rachel Stancliff, HTS

At HTS, we've been using Microsoft Lync for internal communication since 2007 – and we love it! In a single platform, we can instant message, video conference, share screens and presentations, arrange conference calls, transfer files, and track each other's availability.

So how do we use Lync on a daily basis?

Instant messaging

Business Continuity Tip:
Tornado Alley

"Tornado Alley" typically includes the Plains states from the Dakotas to Texas. However, a new study shows that the frequency and severity of tornadoes are actually much more widespread. As you can see here, tornadoes can touchdown just about anywhere. For more interesting tornado maps, click here to visit one of our favorite blogs. Warning: it may become addictive.

While the peak time for tornadoes tends to be in the spring, there is no defined tornado season like there is for hurricanes. And given their unpredictable nature, it is vital you prepare your organization now.

Need help getting started? Download Agility’s free Tornado Checklist for tips on how to prepare your business before, during and after a storm. In addition, we encourage all employees to review the Be Red Cross Ready - Tornado Safety Checklist for helpful tips on how to protect yourself, your friends and your family in the event of a tornado.
