Destinations for Dear Dad
For Father's Day, skip the cologne purchase and instead treat dad to a traveling adventure. June is national Great Outdoors Month and what better way to usher in summer than by hunting for fossils, canoeing along miles of creeks and the Patuxent River, or playing a round of golf at a premier golf course. There are plenty of memories to make in Calvert County.

On the Water
Salty Adventures for Father
Bring dad and the whole family for a day of paddling along the beautiful Parkers Creek, one of the most cared for and protected creeks on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay. The creek is surrounded by nearly 3,000 acres of wildland preserve and a natural forest managed by the American Chestnut Land Trust. Enjoy the one-of-a-kind sunrise along the Chesapeake Bay Father's Day weekend by signing up for a special sunrise guided canoe trip June 17 from 7-10 a.m.
There are several other ways to get on the 143 miles of shoreline that surrounds Calvert County. More than 15 marinas and several other businesses are waiting to rent or sell you what you need to go kayaking, canoeing, cruising or water skiing.
Just take a look at this award-winning rockfish caught during the 36th annual Rod 'N' Reel Pro-Am Tournament last month. Brady Callahan, 11, of Chester Springs, Pa., took home $10,000 for reeling in this 48-inch, 41.85-pound striped bass while aboard the Chubby Chaser II of North Beach with Capt. Danny Morrison. Does the next record-breaking 'big one' belong to dear old dad? Head to Calvert County for some of the best charter fishing on the Chesapeake Bay.
There are seven locations where you and dad (and the whole family) can stick your toes in the sand and bask in the summer sun in Calvert County. If you would like a little more action than you would get from a lazy hazy day of sunbathing and picnicking, consider hunting for shark's teeth along the Chesapeake Bay beaches where you are guaranteed a fossil jewel. Our beaches have something for everyone. Check them out!

"Fore" Father's Day
Get Out and Golf
All are invited to enjoy a day on the links at Chesapeake Hills Golf Course, Calvert County's premier golf destination. On Father's Day, dads can enjoy a free draft beer, soda or hot dog with paid greens fee June 17-18. What better way to enjoy the great outdoors than by spending a day on this 18-hole course featuring Bermuda grass fairways on gently rolling hills surrounded by towering trees? The panoramic setting includes several lakes and creeks that meander through the course to create a unique design that offers golfers of all levels the ultimate in scenery and challenges. The course boasts 6,545 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 72.3 and it has a slope rating of 126. Last year, Chesapeake Hills unveiled its FootGolf course, the first of its kind in Southern Maryland. FootGolf is a precision sport requiring players to kick a soccer ball into a cup, located yards away from the golf greens, by using as few attempts as possible. FootGolf is quickly growing in popularity in the United States and around the world. After a great round on the links, golfers are welcomed to enjoy a fantastic meal and a refreshing drink at The Chesapeake Grille Room.

Chesapeake Hills Bloody Mary
While dad is enjoying his free hot dog at Chesapeake Hills Golf Course this Father's Day the rest of family can enjoy a variety of drinks and sandwiches, including the Chesapeake Hills chicken salad sandwich. Even non-golfers travel from afar to enjoy this summer favorite. Adults can match the sandwich with the famous Chesapeake Grille Room's Bloody Mary. Clubhouse Manager and Mixologist Brian Grabarek generously shared his soon-to-be not-so-secret recipe for all to enjoy.
Ingredients
1.5 ounces Tito's Handmade Vodka
4 ounces Maryland's own George's Bloody Mary Mix 1 dash Worcestershire sauce 1 dash smoked paprika 1 dash Old Bay spice 1 ounce lime juice 2 tablespoons Old Bay (for glass rim)
Fill pint glass half way with ice and pour in remaining ingredients. Shake well. Prepare serving glass by dipping rim of glass into lime juice, then immediately dip into Old Bay spice. Pour shaken drink from pint glass into Old Bay-rimmed glass and garnish with your favorite olive and a large stalk of celery. (At The Chesapeake Grille Room we might add pickles, bacon, steamed shrimp, onion rings, pickled onions, pepperoncini or even jalapenos).
