Appreciating the Patuxent River
Each fall the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons hosts a
celebration of Maryland's largest and longest river. Patuxent River Appreciation Days is a two-day event that brings the community together in celebration of the river's rich influence on the region's quality of life.

'Tis the Season for Seafood
For seafood lovers, Southern Maryland is the place to be in the fall. The largest and fattest blue crabs come from local waters in September and October, and the long-awaited oyster harvest season begins Oct. 1.
The best way to satisfy your crustacean craving or mollusk mania is at one of Calvert County's outstanding restaurants featuring locally sourced seafood. Nothing beats relaxing at a waterside café and sampling county culinary creations along with beer and wine made just minutes away.
For you aspiring chefs, we have a real bonus. We've cajoled local restaurateurs into sharing some of their favorite recipes. But please, keep these to yourself. They include some truly great oyster and crab dishes, along with recipes for rockfish, grouper and even a few autumn-themed side dishes and drinks. It's enough to dazzle any dinner party. Happy eating!
