The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners announced that Dominion Cove Point will construct a 50,000-square-foot warehouse and office facility at Patuxent Business Park (PBP) in Lusby. Construction of the new facility, the first to be located in the business park, will start this spring. Dominion Cove Point will build the warehouse and office facility on an 8.3-acre parcel in the business park, with completion expected by the end of 2016.

"We congratulate and thank Dominion for their continued investment in our community and are thrilled to announce this new project," said Evan Slaughenhoupt Jr., president of the Board of County Commissioners. "Dominion is currently constructing the largest economic development project ever seen in the state of Maryland at its Cove Point liquefied natural gas terminal in Lusby. Dominion remains actively engaged with county government throughout the course of the terminal expansion and maintains open lines of communication. We know this collaboration will continue as they embark on construction of a new building at Patuxent Business Park."

Jennifer Moreland is Calvert County's Employee of the Year

Congratulations to Jennifer Moreland, community resources coordinator for Calvert County Family Network (CCFN), for being named Calvert County's 2015 Employee of the Year.

Moreland's selection was announced during the annual Calvert County Government employee service awards ceremony held earlier this month.

Since assuming her current position in March 2015, Moreland was instrumental in devising a strategy to use surplus administrative funding to execute important training events for Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse, the Calvert County Mentoring Partnership and the Calvert Collaborative for Children and Youth. She also secured funding to support the Calvert County Health Department on a child safety awareness campaign that provided 25 low-income families with portable cribs and a "Kids and Care" program that provided residents with safety information.

Governor Inducts Swann Family Into Agriculture Hall of Fame

Jody Swann, Joe-Sam Swann and
Sambo Swann.

Maryland Gov.Larry Hogan and Agriculture Secretary Joe Bartenfelder inducted the Swann family of Calvert County into the Governor's Agriculture Hall of Fame this month, making the family the 47th recipients of the prestigious recognition. The family was inducted in front of nearly 700 agricultural leaders and legislators from across the state during the annual "Taste of Maryland Agriculture" Feb. 4.

"It is hard to think of a family more deserving of this distinct honor than the Swann family," said Gov. Hogan. "Their commitment to preserving our environmental resources and giving back to their community is a great reminder of how important agriculture is to the state of Maryland."

Congratulations to the Swann family! Take a look at the video shown at the induction reception or visit them online to learn more about their farm and products.
