Calvert County is ranked third in the state for its effective use of property taxes according to a new study released by SmartAsset, a financial technology company focusing on personal finance. SmartAsset developed the ranking to show counties "where people are getting the most bang for their buck, or where their property tax dollars are going the furthest."
Measurements included public school quality, crime rates, median home values and property tax rates. County schools received the highest ranking on SmartAsset's scale while the county tax rate is among the lowest in the state. Read the article here.

Board Seeks Relief from
State Fiscal Actions
Letter Details Reallocation of Costs to Counties

State Buys Hallowing Point Property
Agencies Help Residents Begin Transition
On Aug. 26 the Maryland Board of Public Works (BPW) approved the purchase of the 5-acre Hallowing Point Trailer Park property by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
The purchase allows DNR to improve facilities at its adjacent boat ramp, add new parking areas and construct a new office building for DNR and Natural Resources Police staff.
The current property owner has up to one year to transition tenants out of their trailers and clean up the property before going to settlement. Various government agencies are available to help residents transition to new homes. The state Department of Human Resources, through its local Social Services offices, will help displaced residents who seek assistance. The county Department of Community Resources (410-535-1600, ext. 8803) is available for intake and referral services.
