With companies such as Medtronic Diabetes (Northridge), Boston Scientific Neuromodulation (Valencia), Edwards Lifesciences (Irvine), Abbott Medical Optics (Santa Ana), Biosense Webste (Irwindale)r, St Jude Cardiac Rhythm Management Division (Sylmar), etc., the Geater Los Angeles region is well known as one of the top 5 medical device hubs in the US. By contrast, a few would think about the region as one of the top biopharma clusters. But when the editors of Genetic Engineering News (GEN) looked at biopharma assets and stockholders in Greater Los Angeles, they found enough to warrant placing Los Angeles among the top ten biopharma clusters in the US and ahead of Chicago, the home of Baxter International and AbbVie ... A MassDevice.com reported that 14 companies accounted for more than 97% of the nearly $500 million collected in med device tax.
