In the previous issue we started a special 6-part MiniCourse on the subject of getting out of debt God's way in less than 5 to 7 years including your mortgage. And we discussed that every Believer should be making debt freedom of the highest priority so that we can all be separated from the World financial system by the time Jesus returns which is going to be soon. Here in Step Two we'll be talking about the most important steps in the whole process of becoming debt free. Most people about now are probably expecting to start learning some really sophisticated financial techniques that will miraculously catapult them out of debt. And indeed there will be some great techniques coming later on, but success in this Program cannot result unless the key steps covered in this lesson are taken.
MOST people who fail to finish their debt repayment programs and achieve debt freedom fall short because they don't properly implement Step Two. It's that simple so please take note: there's a vulnerability being identified here and it's vitally important that this part of the MiniCourse be fully implemented. Otherwise, you'll be wasting your time and you'll be tremendously disappointed when you wind up dropping out without having achieved your objectives.
The Requirement of Making an Irrevocable Decision
The main reason people don't make progress getting out of debt even when it's their heart's desire is that they don't realize they have to make a binding irrevocable decision. Irrevocable means no going back and the decision works like this: you see in the Word of God that indebtedness is not God's best for you, then you realize that living by the Word will result in producing God's BEST and so you DECIDE that if you see a principle in the Word you WILL make the necessary changes to come into agreement with it no matter what. One day you draw a line in the sand you refuse to cross over, you put your credit cards in a drawer or even better destroy them and then you start trusting in the Lord to provide what you need NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS. You refuse to allow debt to re-enter your life. If there's the possibility of trouble ahead, you're determined to trust in the Lord to get you through WITHOUT credit cards and further debt.
For this Program to work for you, for it to produce lasting debt freedom for you, you WILL have to make an irrevocable decision to stop adding to your current debt, to change your life and start living for debt freedom no matter what that road takes you through. The end result of debt freedom is where you're going to because you've seen that it agrees with the Word of God. Therefore, you can trust that God will take care of you by His provision instead of what you have been trying to provide through credit cards.
Make your irrevocable decision today by speaking a commitment to God to live by His Word and asking Him for His mercy and help. What you're doing is DECIDING to get out of debt, no looking back, no looking around, but simply adjusting your lifestyle to come into agreement with the Word of God. Jesus already died on the Cross so you could be redeemed from the Curse of the Law including becoming debt free. See it for yourself in Galatians 3:13.
The Requirement of Taking Action
Most folks have been in debt for a really long time and all the while they've wanted to become debt free. Why haven't they ever made the change? Why does it just go on and on year-after-year without any action ever happening? Could it be because most of us just never get to the point of taking that first step when something needs to get done? You can't take the second step toward an objective until you've taken the first one. So the first step is vital; it's ESSENTIAL if you're ever going to achieve a goal.
If we know that according to the Word of God we should do something but never set out to get it done then according to the Bible we are hearers of the Word but not doers and we DELUDE ourselves (James 1:22). The delusion is that we think everything will turn out okay anyway even though we never take action. The truth though where indebtedness is concerned is that most likely it won't turn out okay unless we take an initial action step. God could always provide a miracle but usually He first requires our faith in a matter which in turn requires that we initiate the process so He can respond. That's just the way He works.
We can have the best of intentions but without taking action, without converting our intentions to action nothing will get done. We'll still be in debt 5 or 10 years from now, we'll still be thinking about it full of good intentions but never getting anywhere and all the while paying thousands of dollars of interest payments back into the World system instead of protecting those funds for the work of the Kingdom of God by taking an action that God can respond to.
Here is a first step that almost nobody ever gets to: make a list of all your creditors with 5 columns:
1. The name of the creditor
2. The related account number
3. The current outstanding balance
4. The current interest rate
5. The related monthly minimum payment
