Greetings in the name of Christ Jesus!

For over a year we have been discussing how God longs for the Body of Christ to have and enjoy the abundance that Jesus came to give us (John 10:10) and that He desires deeply for us to experience the very fullness of biblical prosperity in every area of life: spirit, soul and body with nothing missing and nothing broken. Yet we can look around and clearly see that God’s wishes, although struggling to emerge, have not manifested to the fullness that most Believers are hoping to experience. Many are frustrated, even angry at the Lord because prosperity has failed to overtake them.

Friend, the truth is it’s not God’s fault if His abundance and prosperity aren’t manifesting in your life. Jesus already went to the Cross of Calvary so the Blessing of Abraham could be made available for our use (Galatians 3:9, 14). Now it’s up to each of us to pursue that Blessing in faith and cause it to manifest. God is not withholding it; He doesn’t turn it off and on according to how we behave or because He’s trying to teach us something or other. Rather, the Blessing operates automatically; it either manifests or it doesn’t manifest according to certain biblical laws of conduct. This is how the Kingdom of God works under the New Covenant. For example, if you give, it will be multiplied back to you (Luke 6:38). If you give cheerfully, you will acquire all sufficiency in everything (2 Corinthians 9:7-8). If you resist the devil, he must flee (James 4:7). In essence then, biblical prosperity is available to everyone who will put the proper laws in motion so that the Blessing of Abraham can be fully manifested.

  • Negative Conduct Impedes the Blessing
  • Therefore, the main reason we do NOT experience prosperity is that we fail to put those laws of Blessing in motion. In addition, we are highly prone to put the wrong laws in motion. The Curse works the same way as the Blessing; that is, it manifests automatically in response to negative conduct. Following are the main examples of negative conduct that block the manifestation of the Blessing in our lives and even cause us to manifest the Curse:

Ignorance of the Word – Unfortunately many of us don’t know enough about the Word and so every day out of ignorance we violate the laws of proper conduct. The Bible says that God’s people are destroyed by a lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6) and out of ignorance then we routinely miss out on the Blessing.

Disobedience – According to the 28th Chapter of Deuteronomy, disobedience will cause the Curse to pursue and overtake you until you are destroyed (verse 45). If you are in disobedience you are temporarily ineligible for the Blessing to manifest in your life. Instead you will manifest the Curse and it will destroy you and your family if you choose to continue in it.

Walking in the flesh instead of the spirit – Even though our spirit has been born again, our flesh is still corrupt and unredeemed (Galatians 5:19) and it’s trying to dominate the influence of our reborn spirit. Therefore, we must try to be led by the Spirit so we can avoid being subject to the Law (Galatians 5:18) and the Curse that comes with it. Christ has redeemed us form the Curse of the Law (Galatians 3:13) but separation from its effects requires that we walk in the Spirit.

Failure to include God in our activities – We routinely fail to consult with the Lord as we go through life. We’re too busy or under too much stress and pressure to be Spirit-led and so we make decisions and pursue new directions on our own. When we do this we make ourselves ineligible for the Blessing.

Failure to try to walk in love – Jesus gave us two commandments: to love God and to love our neighbors as ourselves (Matthew 22:37-39). On these two commandments depend all the laws and principles that govern our lives in the Kingdom of God (verse 40). Therefore, the principles of biblical prosperity will only work where love is being pursued.

  • The Sin of Unforgiveness
  • There is one particular act of negative conduct discussed extensively in the New Testament that can often involve all of the above impediments to the manifestation of the Blessing. Sometimes we fail to forgive others because we don’t realize the extent of God’s aversion to it as expressed in His Word. Or perhaps we know some things about it but we choose to disobey and withhold our forgiveness anyway. Whenever we choose not to forgive we make a decision in the flesh because the Spirit will always try to lead us into forgiveness. For sure we aren’t consulting God if we walk in unforgivenss because the Word tells us to stay away from it. And anyway, love and unforgiveness can’t walk together because they aren’t compatible.

Forgiving someone for an offense is a choice that we make to be in line with the Word and with God’s wishes for our conduct. When we persist with thoughts and acts of retribution and revenge or we allow our anger and emotions to dictate our actions and words, we need to go back and deal with unforgiveness. When people say they have forgiven someone but they continue to talk hurtfully, to slander and to gossip behind the other person’s back, they have allowed the enemy to put the unforgiving spirit back on them and they need to go before the Lord again and ask Him for help to forgive that other person for their sin. And, you keep going back before the Lord as long as it takes to obtain the release of forgiveness.

The Body of Christ seems to be filled these days with Believers who are offended and walking around in unforgiveness. We are so thin-skinned that we get offended at the least thing even though the Bible tells us to love one another and be forgiving. Perhaps we don’t realize that our lack of forgiveness is more hurtful to the one withholding it than it is to the one who has done the offending. Perhaps in our lack of knowledge we don’t understand the danger we put ourselves in by deciding not to forgive. Therefore, it might be helpful to review the principal New Testament scriptures on this subject all in one place at the same time:

Luke 17:3-4 “Be on your guard! If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. And if he sins against you seven times a day, and returns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ forgive him.”

Matthew 18:21-22 Then Peter came and said to Him, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.”

Ephesians 4:32 Be kind to one another, tender- hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

Colossians 3:12-13 So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.

Mark 11:25-26 “Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father who is in heaven will also forgive you your transgressions; But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in heaven forgive your transgressions.”

Matthew 6:14-15 “For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.”

Matthew 7:1-2 “Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you.”

Matthew 18:34-35 “And his lord, moved with anger, handed him over to the torturers until he should repay all that was owed him. My heavenly Father will also do the same to you if each of you does not forgive his brother from your heart.

John 13:34-35 “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Some of the most vital parts have been underlined for you to take note of. Failure to forgive not only interferes with the manifestation of prosperity in your life, it has increasingly dangerous consequences over the long term if you insist on holding on to your offenses. Unforgiveness will cause you to lose your peace, your joy and eventually it will affect your health, both physical and mental. Therefore, we absolutely must strive to forgive each other!

  • How to Come to Forgiveness
  • Forgiving someone is an act of your will. Sometimes it’s not easy but God requires it anyway. If you will go to Him and ask for His help, He is sure to send His love and peace into your life so you can release the offense and come to forgiveness. When you have been offended by someone, instead of harboring unforgiveness, you should begin to pray that God will bless that person and bring him/her into closer relationship with Him. You should ask the Lord to please not punish that other person harshly for the sin committed against you. And you should pray that the Blessing of Abraham will fully manifest in his/her home and business. Also, keep in mind that if the one who hurt you is saved, he/she continues to be your Brother or Sister in the Lord. So you should pray that God will provide reconciliation with that individual and that your former relationship will be restored.

At the same time, ask God to show you what you could have done better in the process that led up to the offense. Was there anything that you did that enabled the sin against you? Ask God what He wants you to learn from your experience. By focusing on the Lord instead of the person who sinned against you, genuine forgiveness is sure to come and set you back on the path to biblical prosperity and abundance.

  • Some Final Thoughts
  • Forgiving someone has nothing to do with who was right or wrong in the commission of an offense. Both parties are individually responsible to God for their own actions and words. You are not called to judge the person who has sinned against you; you are called to forgive that person and love him/her despite their offense. The truth is clear: If you want the full manifestation of biblical prosperity in your life, you must forgive others eagerly and without hesitation for their sins against you.

Friend, you need to know what the Word of God says about this subject. Study it out yourself and see to it that you are the loving, forgiving person God has called you to be. Above all don’t ignore it. When you forgive, God will restore the victory to your life: spirit, soul and body.

We hope this article has been a blessing to you today. May God help you escape from any unforgiveness in your life and deliver you back onto higher ground in the flow of His Spirit. We’ll be looking for you again in three weeks.
