Greetings in the name of Christ Jesus!

This is the second article in our new series on the Laws of Biblical Prosperity. We hope you enjoyed Part One in which we defined biblical prosperity. If you missed that first article please feel free to request a copy from the home office at: cfc@creditcounseling.net. Thank you for reading Prosperous Life Newsletter. May you be blessed and edified today by the Truth from God’s Word!

As we continue to develop this subject, keep in mind a key point we started with in our previous newsletter: the fullness of biblical prosperity isn’t limited to just financial issues. Certainly finances are a part of it but to be prosperous from God’s perspective means that all your needs are being met spirit, soul and body. Nothing is missing and nothing is broken anywhere in your life. And so today we come to these questions: is biblical prosperity an automatic blessing for Believers? How can we know for certain if we’re supposed to be prosperous or not? In today’s article we examine the relationship between God’s prosperity and the authority of His Word.

In order to come to a full understanding of how biblical prosperity works, we need to first accept several basic concepts concerning the Word of God:

• The Word of God is intended to be a handbook of life for people of faith. The principles of life that are written there should be taken literally, as being free of any error and exactly as stated. Also, no one statement contradicts any other.

• The Bible is the original source of God’s principles of life because the Word is eternal (John 1:1). God’s plans and purposes for prosperity were set down in their original written form in His Word and flow out of His eternal wisdom.

• A principle becomes a “law” when it always works in a prescribed manner. If some action is taken in a particular way, a predictable result will always follow the action. Therefore, the laws of biblical prosperity will always work in a predictable way.

• The Word of God is a complete work with nothing left out. Therefore, all the principles of conduct that lead to God’s prosperity can be found somewhere in His written Word. If a principle can’t be found in the Bible, it should be presumed not to have come from God.

• For a person of faith, the Word of God is a contract with specific terms and conditions of performance for each party. Prosperity in the Kingdom works in strict accordance with the contract, without exception and without the possibility of deviation or circumvention.

  • Discovering the Need to Make the Word of God Our Authority
  • In order for God’s Handbook to work in our lives as it was intended, all Believers must at some point make the decision to submit to the Word’s authority. This means we accept that the Word is divinely inspired containing inerrant truth (2 Timothy 2:15) and that we will be better off if we try to live by exactly what It says. Because it is authoritative, we come to realize that we need to know and understand what It says and then by the stirring of the Holy Spirit, we are motivated to read and study It. If the Word says we should do some particular thing, then once we come to know about that particular thing, we should want to try to have our lives line up with what it says. In sum, God’s best for our lives is to live according to His Word.

Therefore, in the spirit of today’s topic, we must ask these questions: how can we expect to enjoy the laws of biblical prosperity if we don’t know what those laws are? And, how can we expect biblical prosperity to abound in our lives if we are unable to live by its laws of operation? The Bible says that God’s people are destroyed when there is a lack of knowledge or when we have rejected knowledge (Hosea 4:6). Unfortunately, this is exactly what is happening today in the Body of Christ concerning the area of prosperity because many Believers don’t take the time to connect themselves to the Word deeply and directly on a regular basis in order to learn what it says. In order for prosperity to work, laws must be put into motion and Believers must initiate that motion. God then by covenant agreement takes care of the re-actions to our initiatives. It won’t happen any other way.

Friend, you need to know today that the Word of God is a compilation of the divinely inspired sayings of a loving God (2 Timothy 3:16) that are intended to guide us into victory in this present life and to an afterlife with Him in eternity (John 5:39). According to this divinely inspired Scripture we are to live by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God (Deuteronomy 8:3). The Word is truth (John 17:17), it is perfect (Psalms 19:7), it is holy (Romans 7:12), it is trustworthy (Psalms 111:7), it is profitable for instruction (Deuteronomy 4:10) and it is complete (Deuteronomy 4:2, 12:32 and Proverbs 30:6). Most importantly, Jesus Himself said that those who do not know the Scriptures are in error and don’t know the power of God (Matthew 22:29).

The reality is, you will not come to know the power of God’s provision and prosperity if you don’t know the Scriptures. Jesus said so and it’s TRUE no matter how much we try to ignore it. When Jesus was confronted by Satan in the wilderness, He easily defeated him with the Word (Matthew 4:1-11). We can begin to acquire that same kind of power once we make the decision to pursue an understanding of Scripture. And, the good news is this: once you have accepted that you need to know what the Word wants to tell you, the Holy Spirit will show up to be your tutor. You can have the same power that Jesus had so that you can defeat the enemies in your life and achieve your potential in the Kingdom of God.

  • Be A Doer of the Word
  • However, it does not end with just knowing what the Word says; you must also act on it. You must be a doer of the Word in order to be blessed in all your ways (James 1:25). As we said earlier, since the Word is a Handbook for Life, you must do your best to live according to the principles of life that you find there. You must stop trying to circumvent the Word to achieve your own objectives and be willing to submit to the Word and achieve God’s objectives.

In addition, you must learn to live your life by faith (Romans 1:17) according to what the Word says is true and not by what your five senses tell you (2 Corinthians 5:7). If you can find in the Bible where it says that you are prosperous but your bank account is negative, which perspective is the truth? If you can find where God says that Jesus came to give you abundant life but you barely have enough to make ends meet, which condition is reality? And which points of view do you speak out of your mouth? To be a doer of the Word means you believe and confess what the Word says no matter what situation presents itself in the natural. Pastor Joel Osteen sums it up this way each week as he begins the services in their church:

    • I am who the Word says I am
    • I have what It says I can have
    • I can do what It says I can do

If you are falling short today of being a doer of the Word by your faith and confession, ask God to change you and then start to confess with your mouth that you are being changed. Speak out that you are a doer of the Word because you have asked God to make you one and by faith you believe that you have whatever you have asked for in the name of Jesus. Then, according to the Word of God, you will receive it (Mark 11:24).

  • Conclusions
  • Our second Law of Biblical Prosperity is to pursue an understanding of the Word of God and submit to Its authority. So many people in the Body of Christ are missing out on the prosperity Jesus won for them at the Cross of Calvary because they are not pursuing a close relationship with the Word of God. Therefore, the answers to the questions at the beginning of today’s article are these: biblical prosperity is not an automatic blessing that comes just because you believe; but, it’s absolutely certain that God wants every Believer to enjoy biblical prosperity. We know this because the Word confirms it.

Certainly there are things one has to do, working through faith, to actually experience God’s prosperity but our point today is that pursuing an understanding of the Word is a vital first step. Many Christians want to rely on their weekly church services to learn what they need to know. But our Pastors, Teachers and Preachers can only scratch the surface of biblical knowledge in the limited time available. You cannot learn the Word by simply listening to a one-hour (or less) weekly sermon. No, it is incumbent upon all Believers to search the scriptures and learn for yourselves what’s there so you can claim what God wants to give you.

In conclusion, please note that we are stating this concept as a Law; in other words it always works a certain way. If you will initiate the action and make an effort to become enlightened and learn what the Word says, the Holy Spirit will always react to your initiative and you will begin to receive the blessing, the provision and the prosperity you have wanted. Sow a seed of effort; reap a harvest of enlightenment, understanding and prosperity.

May God bless you today with a hunger for His Word so that you will come to experience the fullness of His prosperity. Thanks for reading Prosperous Life Newsletter.

  • Sinners’ Prayer
  • If you have never invited Jesus to become the Lord of your life, you can do so today by saying the following simple prayer: Jesus I believe in you and I receive you as my Lord and Savior. Please forgive me for my sins and come into my life today.

If you were sincere as you prayed this prayer, God has already come into your life and you are a new creation. Congratulations! Now ask the Lord to lead you to a bible teaching church where you can be developed to fulfill your potential in the Kingdom of God. And please send us an e-mail announcing your decision so we can rejoice with the angels. God bless you.
