Leadership Mountain View:  The Many Facets of Government in
Mountain View

The Leadership Mountain View Class of 2013 had a very full program day learning about city, county and state government.

The day began with an hour-long meeting with City Manager Dan Rich, who gave an overview of how the city functions and major projects that are in the pipeline for Mountain View. Dan was followed by Geography Professor, Mountain View native and LMV alumni, Eileen O'Halloran, who gave a presentation on the History and Geography of the city.

Changes to ILoveMV website in the near future
The ILoveMV.org website will be changing in the near future. I'm very excited that the new format will be more flexible and it will look fabulous on mobile devices. The new theme will be more Pinterest looking and many of us are very familiar with the clean look of boards that are pinned with our favorite recipes, totally unachievable home decor images and clever crafts ideas. It'll be like that, but instead of wedding cakes and tattoo ideas, it'll feature things like downtown dim sum, the best bars to watch a Giants game,  where to find a conference or banquet room in our community, cheap date ideas and what to take your relatives to see when they come visit Mountain View. I suppose I could also feature wedding cakes and tattoo shops. I better get started on my tattoo research... read more

In September, the National Labor Relations Board issued its first Board-level decision on a Facebook-related termination. In Karl Knauz Motors, Inc., the Board found that the employer did not violate the National Labor Relations Act ("Act") when it terminated an employee for his Facebook commentary on a car accident at an adjacent, employer-owned dealership. The Board affirmed the administrative law judge's decision (see October 2011 FEB) in which the ALJ observed that the posting was done... read more

On-the-Job Training Saves Money for Small Businesses

Finding and hiring good employees with the right skills can be challenging. In many cases, candidates may have the right combination of enthusiasm and ability but lack some of the specific skills you need for your business to thrive. NOVA, your local workforce investment board, has an innovative On-the-Job Training (OJT) program that can help your business invest in a great candidate and transform him or her into a productive and profitable employee. By hiring and training a NOVA job seeker, you may be eligible for up to 90% wage reimbursement for the time it takes your new employee to learn the skills necessary for the job. Positions appropriate for OJT might include admin assistants, inside sales, accounting/financial analysts, business development, and others. Find out more at http://link.novaworks.org/empojt.

Contact NOVA for a free consultation - call (408) 730-7232 or e-mail ojt@novaworks.org.
