Public Meeting: Proposed Renovations to 8 Harrison Ave. on Sept. 21st

The Boston Redevelopment Authority is hosting a public meeting to discuss a proposal to renovate the top three levels of the existing eight-story building at 8 Harrison Ave. This meeting will be at the China Trade Center (2 Boylston St., basement level) on Wednesday, Sept. 21st from 6 to 7:30 pm

The proposed project is to renovate the ground floor level to include a new residential entrance and the top three floors of the building. The building would include 46 residential units.

Public Meeting: Proposed Project at 
171 Tremont St. on Sept. 26th

The Boston Redevelopment Authority is hosting a public meeting about the proposal for a luxury residential condominium building at 171-172 Tremont St. This meeting will be on Monday, Sept. 26th from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at the Suffolk Law School (120 Tremont St. Moot Court Room, fourth floor)

The Boston Cup Classic Car Show on the Boston Common on Sept. 25th

The 5th Annual Boston Cup Classic Car Show at the Boston Common's Parkman Bandstand will be on Sunday, Sept. 25th from 9 am to 2 pm. This year's theme is Style & Speed.

One of this year's featured vehicles include a 1938 Gangloff Bugatti T57C convertible. There will be more than 100 exceptional vehicles on display.

Tickets can be purchased online until Sept. 21st, and then will be available with cash at the event. Click here to purchase tickets.

'Miss Julie' at Modern Theatre Through Sept. 25th

The Harbor Stage Company and Suffolk University are co-presenting "Miss Julie" at Suffolk University's Modern Theatre through Sept. 25th. This fiery new version of a volatile classic explores how passion and privilege ensnare the daughter of a wealthy aristocrat and an enigmatic hired hand.

Unearthing Boston Series at Old South Meeting House on Tuesdays In September

Learn about the archaeological history of Boston during "Unearthing Boston," a Lowell Lecture Series at the Old South Meeting House (310 Washington St.) on Tuesdays in September.   
 
This series is being presented by the Paul Revere Memorial Association. This series is scheduled for: Sept. 20th, 27th at 6:30 pm. It is free and open to the public

Freedom Trail with Lantern Tours Starting Sept. 22nd

This fall you can explore the dark side of the Freedom Trail with the annual Freedom Trail Lantern Tours on Thursdays and Saturdays starting Sept. 22nd

Join a Freedon Trail actor in a darkly garbed 18th century costume with a lantern as they tell tales of crimes, spies, killings and demonic possession in a 90-minute walking tour. The tours will be offered Thursdays from Sept. 22nd through Oct. 27th and Saturdays from Oct. 8th to Oct. 29th.

Middays at the Meeting House: Restoring Historic Graves Light on Sept. 23rd

Graves Light and Fog Signal Station has been called the most important light north of Cape Cod. Learn about Restoring Historic Craves Light during a Middays at the Meeting House presentation on Friday, Sept. 23rd at 12:15 pm

Owners Lynn and Dave Waller will share its colorful 110 year history, including its construction, shipwrecks witnessed nearby and some of its keepers. They will discuss the restoration efforts as they are trying to bring the light station up-to-date. This event is $6 or free for Old South Meeting House members. Click here for tickets. 
 
Watch 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' on the Boston Common

The last movie for this season's Mayor Walsh's Movie Nights will be at the Frog Pond on the Boston Common on Friday, Sept. 23rd, with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
  
The show begins at dusk (approximately 7:45 pm) and is sponsored by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department and Northeastern. Free popcorn will be provided by the AMC Loews Boston Common 19.
 
Puritans at Home: A Conversation About Marriage, Love and Family 
Sept. 26th at Old State House

Learn about some of the first New Englanders at Puritans at Home: A Conversation About Marriage, Love and Family at the Old State House (206 Washington St.) on Tuesday, Sept. 26th.

You might be surprised to learn that Puritans were not really as fun-hating as we've been led to believe. Abby Chandler, assistant professor in Early America History and Public History at UMass-Lowell, will share surprising facts about home life in New England.

This program is part of the Charter Day celebration hosted by The Partnership of the Historic Bostons each year. This event is at 7 pm and free but seating is limited. Please click here to register.

'City Sketch: Downtown Crossing'
Sept. 28th

The Boston Society of Architects continues its City Sketch series with Downtown Crossing on Wednesday, Sept. 28th. Sketch-artist Andrew Guild will guide participants in this hands-on outdoor sketching session. 

Participants will get the opportunity to sketch building facades while exploring architectural sketching processes and techniques. This event is being supported by the BID. Cider Celebration at the 
Old State House on Sept. 29th

Celebrate the beloved New England apple by enjoying cider from Downeast Cider House and local apples and cider donuts from Carver Hill Orchard. This event is on Thursday, Sept. 29th at the Old State House (206 Washington St.) from 6 to 8 pm.

Hear the cider makers discuss their craft, while tasting their delicious ciders and donuts. There will also be the opportunity to play 18th century pub games with Old State House revolutionary characters.

Marlo Marketing's Alternative Health & Wellness Series Kicks Off Sept. 29th

Marlo Marketing (38 Chauncy St. 3rd floor) is hosting a fall-winter alternative health & wellness series and it kicks off on Thursday, Sept. 29th. Learn from acupuncturist and energy healer Laura Corrigan on how to Awaken Your Inner Qi to Reduce Stress, East Anxiety, Transform Depression and Create More Vitality

There will be a discussion on the basics of Qi, then a gentle meditative and cleansing practice called Buddha Palm. The cost is $15 per person and you can purchase tickets here. This session is at Marlo Marketing's office from 6 to 7:30 pm
 
The Body of the People at the 
Old South Meeting House on Sept. 29th

"The Body of the People" is a contemporary art installation and performance that will be at the Old South Meeting House (310 Washington St.) on Thursday, Sept. 29th.  

The performances interweaves iconic language and visual images into a poetic discourse on current drastic political changes. Multimedia artist and educator Jeffrey Baykal-Rollins will draw on protests he has participated in and documented "to create immersive art that questions the idea of representation in the political upheavals taking place in the United States today."

The event is being presented as part of THE SOCIAL, the 4th International Association for Visual Culture and hosted in collaboration with the Arts Administration of Boston University, the Victoria and Albert Museum. Music on the Porch Series at St. Paul's on Mondays and Thursdays

The BID launched a new lunchtime music series this week outside of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul (138 Tremont St.). Solo artists will be performing on Mondays and Thursdays from noon to 2 pm through September (except for Labor Day).
 
Rachel Sumner, above, is performing Sept. 26th. Kesnel Personnel will be performing Sept. 22nd and 29th.
 
Live Soloist Performers at 133 Federal Street Three Days a Week

The BID sponsors soloist performers outside on the 133 Federal St. Plaza on MondaysWednesdays and Fridays for everyone to enjoy. 
 
Hsin Hou Sun, pictured, will perform on Sept. 21st and 23rd. Ryan Thomas will perform on Sept. 26th. Performances are from noon to 2 pm
Mariana Secca Performing at
Free Berklee Concert Series at 
100 Summer Street Plaza

The Berklee College of Music Summer Concert Series continues at the 100 Summer Street Plaza. The series offers free musical performances every Tuesday and Thursday by Berklee students.

Mariana Secca will perform on Tuesday, September 20th and Thursday, September 22nd. Secca is a 21-year-old singer-songwriter from Portugal who usually performs her original songs as a singer and guitarist.
   
All performances are from noon to 2 pm. Performances may be cancelled due to weather or changed due to scheduling. Click here to see all of the upcoming performances.

Inaugural Taste of Downtown Crossing 
September 25th 

There's still time to purchase your tickets for the inaugural Taste of Downtown Crossing on September 25th. You'll be treated to samples from more than 20 restaurants, chef demonstrations, musical entertainment and more! Also, children 11 and younger get in for free! The Taste will be on Avenue De Lafayette from noon to 4 pm.
 
Chef Kelly Armetta of the Hyatt Regency Boston, Chef Juan Pedrosa of Yvonne's and Chef Matt Foley of The Merchant, are just three of the chefs who will be sharing how they create mouthwatering meals. 

The Taste of Downtown Crossing is a destination event that will showcase the diverse food, culture and entertainment of Downtown Boston. Avenue de Lafayette will be transformed into a streetside cafe with a beer and wine garden, performing local musicians and the delicious food from Downtown Crossing restaurants.
Participating restaurants include: Artisan Bistro, Avenue One, Back Deck, Boston Chops, Central Bistro, David's Tea, Fajitas & 'Ritas, Gordon's Fine Wines & Liquors, JM Curley, Legal Crossing, Marliave, Mast', The Merchant, Oceanaire Seafood Room, Papagayo, Roche Bros., Sa Pa, Serafina, Sip Wine Bar and Kitchen and Yvonne's.

Boston Fashion Week in Downtown Boston: Opening Night Party, What Would 
Coco Wear? and #FashionStories

The BID has partnered with Boston Fashion Week for the second year to present Platform Downtown with several events in Downtown Crossing. 

The Official Opening Night Party for Boston Fashion Week (One Federal St. 9th Floor) is on Friday, Sept. 23rd from 7 to 11 pmSee and learn how fashion illustrator Holly Nichols creates fashionable illustrations and artful campaigns for Saks Fifth Avenue, Disney, Living Proof and more. Nichols will be creating live sketches from 7:30 to 8:30 pm and 9 to 10 pm with a Q&A in the second session. A fashion show of designer Denise Hajjar's work will be from 8:30 to 9 pm with models styled by Terri Mahn of thestylistcloset and makeup by Glammed To Go. A pop-up shopping gallery of Denise Hajjar Boutique accessories, Nichols' illustrations and Kent Stetson handbags will be from 7 to 10 pm. There will be signature cocktails and light bites by Wanderlush. Tickets are $20. Click here for tickets.

"What Would Coco Wear?" will be on Sunday, Sept. 25th from 1 to 3 pm at Roche Bobois (2 Avery St.). This free event will showcase the latest Parisian "It Girl" fashion for this fall while providing a behind-the-scenes look as stylists work their magic. Wardrobe stylists from Team Artist Representative, Ennis Inc., and Taylor Greeley, Terri Mahn and Nathalie Fanfan, will provide runway-worthy looks modeled throughout the inside of the store and on a red carpet outside of the store. Hairstylist and salon owner Patrice Vinci and her team will provide the latest hairstyles with makeup by Nestor Cruz. Models will be wearing the latest handcrafted Italian footwear from M.Gemi. This is a free event, but space is limited so click here to register.

GlamSlam #FashionStories will be on Tuesday, Sept. 27th from 7 to 9 pm at the Highball Lounge (above Nine Zero Hotel, 90 Tremont St.)Similar to a poetry slam, GlamSlam will feature 5-minute stories from inside the fashion world from photographers, writers, designers, stylists and more. Hear about successes and calamities from actress Erica McDermott, social photographer Bill Brett, fashion writer Tina Sutton, author Jonathan Soroff, lifestyle editor Erica Corsano, designers David Josef, Denise Hajjar, Jonathan Joseph Peters, Dylan Usher, makeup artist Nestor Cruz and comedian/model Bethany Van Delft. Jay Calderin, founder of Boston Fashion Week, will moderate GlamSlam. This is a free event, but seating is limited so click here to register.

Photographe De Mode is an ongoing free exhibit at the Lafayette City Center Passageway (between Avenue de Lafayette and Macy's)Fashion photographer Tracy Aiguier's photos for Platform Downtown will be on display for the public. Aiguier photographed models in Downtown Crossing using intriguing alleys, high-end hotels, theaters and more as backdrops. The exhibit features the work of designers Luke Aaron, Jessica Abernathy, Cotey Bertone, Gina Dewolfe, Jeffrey Dickerson, House of Cach, Daniel Faucher, Alfred Fiandaca, Marie Galvin, Denise Hajjar, David Josef, Sabrina Jacqui Levin, M.Miller Fur & Ski, Jonathan Joseph Peters, Sarah Proust, Alan Rouleau, Kent Stetson, Dylan Usher and Firas Yousif. Play Pianos in Downtown Crossing:
Street Pianos Boston 2016 Kickoff Sept. 23rd 

The sound of pianos will ring across Boston streets starting Sept. 23rd as the Celebrity Series of Boston brings back Street Pianos Boston. The great thing about the series is anyone is welcome to sit down and play at the uniquely decorated pianos. This fall there will be two pianos in Downtown Crossing -- one outside of Macy's and one outside of Walgreens.



Outside of Macy's in Downtown Crossing will be artist Jenni Singer's piano, above. It will be open to play from 10 am to 8 pm daily

In front of Walgreens (School and Washington Street) will be artist Leigh Champagne's piano, above, from 10 am to 8 pm daily.

Artisan Bistro Makes Apple Picking a Breeze by Bringing an Apple Cart to The Ritz-Carlton

Artisan Bistro at The Ritz-Carlton (10 Avery St.) is bringing an apple cart to the city so guests can enjoy the fruits and flavors of the season without having to drive miles to the closest orchard.

Starting Sept. 24th, and continuing each Saturday through Oct. 15th from 2 to 4 pm, Artisan Bistro is rolling out its urban apple cart outdoors onto the sidewalk of Avery Street. Guests can enjoy cider donuts, purchase apples and spiced apple cider for a taste of fall.

Artisan Bistro aligned itself with the family-operated Russell Orchards farm in Ipswich and the hotel will sell their fresh picked apples and apple products at the urban apple cart.
