Governor Baker Announces Funding at Future St. Francis House
Affordable Housing Location

On Monday, Governor Charlie Baker announced more than $90 million in state and federal housing tax credits and subsidies that will support affordable rental housing across the state. Included in the funded statewide 26 projects will be 48 Boylston St. (where the announcement was held), which will be renovated into 46 affordable housing units by St. Francis House (39 Boylston St.).

"These affordable housing awards reflect our administration's commitment to a stronger, more prosperous, and more inclusive Commonwealth," said Baker. "By increasing affordable housing production, and stabilizing working families, low-income senior citizens and homeless families or those at risk, these housing awards will strengthen communities across Massachusetts."

Baker was joined by numerous legislators and community representatives including: Karen LaFrazia, executive director for St. Francis House; State Rep. Aaron Michlewitz, D-Boston; state Sen. Linda Dorcena Forry, D-Dorchester; District 2 Boston City Councilor Bill Linehan and District 8 Boston City Councilor Josh Zakim.

Meet Community Service Officer
Sgt. John Doris

Boston Police Department District A-1's Community Service Office is now being led by Sgt. John Doris. Doris is working with A-1 Captain Kenneth Fong to coordinate the efforts of the four other officers and one civilian in the community service office.

"It's definitely a new way of looking at police work," said Doris, a 31-year BPD veteran, who was a patrolman for 20 years in numerous neighborhoods. "We work with youth and elderly populations, promote school safety, provide safety talks for neighborhood organizations and perform outreach to businesses and the neighborhoods."

Doris said residents should call the community service office at 617-343-4627 for ongoing neighborhood concerns, unlike a patrol unit, which responds to immediate issues. It's also important to call 911 if there is an emergency.
