Tasting Menu Dinner on June 26th

The Merchant's Chef Matt Foley is teaming up with Chef Jitti Chaithiraphant of Heritage Vinegar for an amazing 8-course tasting menu on Sunday, June 26th

The chefs are creating a seasonal 8-course tasting menu (three courses of amuse bouche and five courses for a sit down dinner). The chefs will be foraging over the next month to utilize wild vegetables, herbs and flowers; sourcing only products that are grown or raised in a 200-mile radius from The Merchant. Enjoy Free 'Make Music Boston' Performances on June 21st

Make Music Boston is a live, free musical celebration on June 21st around all of Boston. There will be two Make Music Boston performances in the district. 

Fiona Corrine will be performing outside of Macy's on Summer Street from 5 to 7 pm. MUT will be performing at Walgreens Plaza (Washington and School streets) from 5 to 7 pm. Click here for more info about Make Music Boston.
 
Bisnow's 'Future of Downtown Boston' Event on June 21st 

Join Bisnow for its annual Future of Downtown event with panelists who are shaping the area through investment, development and more on Tuesday, June 21st at 7:30 to 10:30 am
 
Opening remarks will be made by Larry DiCara, partner of Nixon Peabody. An "Around the Freedom Trail" panel discussion will include BID President & CEO Rosemarie Sansone; Scott Pollack, principal of Arrowstreet; Maura Moffat, above, managing director for Synergy Investments; Lee Pelton, president of Emerson College; and Stephen Faber, above, EVP of Related Beal and a BID board member.

JVS Boston Economic Opportunity Forum Featuring Carbonite's CEO

The Boston Chamber of Commerce and JVS Boston (75 Federal St. 3rd Floor) are hosting "Solving America's Skills Gap: An Economic Opportunity Forum" on Tuesday, June 21st

Jim Rooney, CEO of the Boston Chamber of Commerce, will provide introductory remarks and the forum will be led by Carbonite's President & CEO Mohammad Ali, and Joseph B. Boston Calling Block Party at Dewey Square with Cask Mouse on June 23rd

This week's Boston Calling Music Festival Block Party in Dewey Square will feature music from Bourbon Chaser on Thursday, June 23rd. The block parties are free and open to all members of public aged 21+.

The block parties are a partnership with the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy GreenwayShock TopWicked WinesRadioBDC, CHEN PR and the BIDAll block parties will feature local musicians. The parties are from 5 to 8 pm and have a cash bar, lawn games and promotions.
Live Soloist Performers at 133 Federal Street Three Days a Week

The BID sponsors soloist performers outside of 133 Federal St. on MondaysWednesdays and Fridays for everyone to enjoy. 

Flutist Boris Popovich, pictured, will be performing on Wednesday, June 22nd and Friday, June 24th. Carlos V Ramos will be performing on Monday, June 27th. These performances are from noon to 2 pm.
Enya Lim Performing at
Free Berklee Concert Series at 
100 Summer Street Plaza

The Berklee College of Music Summer Concert Series continues at the 100 Summer Street Plaza. The series offers free musical performances every Tuesday and Thursday from Berklee students.

Enya Lim will perform on Tuesday, June 21st and Thursday, June 23rd. Lim is a singer-songwriter and performer hailing from the tropical island of Singapore. 

All performances are from noon to 2 pm. Performances may be cancelled due to weather or changed due to scheduling. Click here to see all of the upcoming performances.
 
Sweet Harmony Singing on Saturdays on Summer Street 

The singing group Sweet Harmony is performing on Saturdays outside of Macy's on Summer Street from 12:30 to 3 pm.

Sweet Harmony is a professional performance troupe at Riverside Theatre Works in Hyde Park performing modern hits and songs through the years.
 
'Matilda the Musical' at 
Boston Opera House Through June 26th

The Tony Award winning "Matilda the Musical" is at the Boston Opera House through June 26th and tickets are still available.

Revolutionary Boston Pub Quiz Night at Old State House on June 30th

The Old State House (206 Washington St.) is hosting a Revolutionary Boston Pub Quiz Night on Thursday, June 30th

Enjoy a beer while you try your hand at Revolutionary Era trivia. Two beers or non-alcoholic beverages are included with your $15 ticket available here. Additional beverages are available for purchase. You can come in teams ready to do battle or join a team once you arrive. This event is from 6 to 8 pm.
 
Watch 'Good Will Hunting' at 
Old South Meeting House on June 30th

The Old South Meeting House (310 Washington St.) is continuing its "Movies at the Meeting House" series and will featuring stories that showcase Boston writers. On Thursday, June 30th, "Good Will Hunting" will be shown. 

Doors open at 6:45 pm, and the film begins at 7:30 pm. Tickets are available for clicking here. Advance tickets are $8 for general public, $4 for OSMH members, and tickets at the door will be $10. Light refreshments will be available for purchase.

The Downtown Boston BID Ambassadors provide clean and hospitality services seven days a week, nearly 24 hours a day. Ambassadors create a friendly, welcoming Downtown presence by helping visitors with directions, notifying fire and police personnel of incidents and more.

Rich Bradley, Pioneer of BIDs, Speaks at Downtown Boston BID Directors Meeting

The Downtown Boston BID was honored to have one of the leading experts on BIDs, Rich Bradley, attend our June 20th BID Directors Meeting.

Gluten-Free Menus at 
Downtown Boston Restaurants

As more people have learned they have gluten allergies, restaurants have smartly crafted menu options that are gluten-free. Here are just a few gluten-free options in Downtown Boston. 

Legal Crossing (558 Washington St.) denotes gluten-free dishes on its menu and there are numerous options, including the Cast Iron Seared Calamari with a warm vinaigrette and bruschetta, above, as well as a House Smoked Salmon with brioche toast points and mustard apple cream.

Back Deck (2 West St.) has an entire gluten-free menu available for guests. Dishes include the Bellissimo Burger with a gluten-free bun, above, a Grilled Salmon Cobb Salad and more.

Salvatore's (545 Washington St.) also has a gluten-free menu with entrees, pasta dishes, pizzas, above, and more. 
See the Best Boston Baristas in Action at Barista Throwdown on June 23rd

Who is the best barista in Boston? A series of barista throwdowns are determining the answer to that question. On June 23rd watch more than a dozen Boston-area baristas showoff their coffee skills at Sip Cafe (0 Post Office Square)

More than 30 baristas attended the May throwdown, and baristas from Ogawa Coffee (10 Milk St.), George Howell Coffee (505 Washington St.) competed last time and are expected to compete this time, too.  

"The purpose is to celebrate the presence of the coffee shops and vendors in and around Boston and promote coffee culture," said Takako Oji, executive director for Ogawa Coffee USA and BID board member. Ogawa Coffee is also going to host a championship in December with all previous winners.

The rules of the throwdown is that any barista can enter with a $10 buy-in. Winner takes half the entry fees and the other half goes to the charity of the host's choosing. It's a single elimination tournament with three judges based upon the best latte art.

At the upcoming throwdown George Howell Coffee and MEM Tea are providing prizes for the first, second and third places finishers. 

Signups start at 7:30 pm and the throwdown starts at 8 pm
Babson College Establishes Global Entrepreneur In Residence Program on 
High Street

Last week Babson College announced the new Global Entrepreneur in Residence (GEIR) program, making it the first U.S. private college to offer a program focused on attracting foreign students to build their businesses in the country. The new program will be at 100 High St.

Celebrate the Boston Common Frog Pond Spray Pool Reopening on June 24th

The Boston Common Frog Pond Spray Pool will reopen on Friday, June 24th, just in time for those really hot summer days. The day will include a celebration at 11 am followed by the opening of the wading pool. 

Frog Pond Freddie, the official mascot of the Frog Pond, will be on hand, and ReadBoston will be giving away free books. In addition to activities from 11 am to 1 pm, the City of Boston and the Boston Public Health Commission will be providing info for upcoming summer programs. David's Tea, Polar Beverages and more will provide tasty treats.

Registration is open for the July 16th Over the Edgeevent at the Hyatt Regency Boston, a fundraiser for Special Olympics Massachusetts. There are still spots available -- be sure to reserve yours today!
