RUM + Revolution at Old State House on June 9th

Enjoy tasting rum and chocolate with Revolutionary characters and a special guest author at RUM + Revolution at the Old State House (206 Washington St.) on Thursday, June 9th

Sample rum in the beautiful galleries of the Old State House and meet the makers of the rum provided by Astraluna Distillery of Medfield, MA, and Privateer Distillery of Ipswich, MA. Each rum tasting will be complimented by delicious chocolate provided byTaza Chocolate of Somerville and light refreshment.

There will also be a raffle and each guest will be entered to win one of two baskets that will include: a signed poster of Brian Hoefling's book being released in October, a sampling of Taza Chocolate, a shot glass from the Old State House gift shop, a signed picture of one of the Old State House's Revolutionary Characters, and two bottles of rum, one from each distillery. Each guest will receive a total of four drink tickets to taste the rums and two mixed drinks. Tickets cost $20 and can be purchased here. This event is from 6 to 8 pm.

Celebrate Ros� Day with Marliave on June 8th

National Ros� Day comes in early June and the Marliave (10 Bosworth St.) will celebrate its own Ros� Day on Wednesday, June 8th

Marliave's wine director Melissa Healey will select a number of her favorite Ros� wines for the event. the kitchen will create special passed appetizers to complement the wine. The event is $50 per person, which includes wine tastings and hors d'oeuvres. The event begins at 6 pm. Please call Marliave at 617-422-0004 to RSVP. 
 
Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Women's Network Breakfast with 
Martha Coakley on June 8th

The Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Women's Network Breakfast with guest speaker and former Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley on Wednesday, June 8th at the Omni Parker House (60 School St.)

The topic is "Ten Not-So-Secret Tips to Make Your Life and Work, Work for You."

Registration and networking is from 7:30 to 8 am and the program is from 8 to 9 am. Click here to register. The price is $55 for Chamber members and $100 for non-members
 
Boston Calling Block Party at Dewey Square with hi8us on June 9th

This week's Boston Calling Music Festival Block Party in Dewey Square will feature music from hi8us on Thursday, June 9th. The block parties are free and open to all members of public aged 21+.

The block parties are a partnership with the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy GreenwayShock TopWicked WinesRadioBDC, CHEN PR and the BIDAll block parties will feature local musicians. The parties are from 5 to 8 pm and have a cash bar, lawn games and promotions.

Live Soloist Performers at 133 Federal Street Three Days a Week

The BID sponsors soloist performers outside of 133 Federal St. on MondaysWednesdays and Fridays for everyone to enjoy. 

Rachel Sumner will be performing on Wednesday, June 8th, D'Rafaele will be performing on Friday, June 10th, and Holly McGarry, pictured above, will be performing on Monday, June 13th. These performances are from noon to 2 pm.
Orlando Retana Performing at
Free Berklee Concert Series at 
100 Summer Street Plaza

The Berklee College of Music Summer Concert Series continues at the 100 Summer Street Plaza. The series offers free musical performances every Tuesday and Thursday from Berklee students.

Orlando Retana will perform on Tuesday, June 7th and Thursday, June 9th. Originally from Costa Rica, his family moved to Calgary, Canada, when he was 14, and he discovered different music styles like jazz, funk, fusion and classical. At 19, he came to Berklee College of Music to study, and he has been able to work with great musicians like Jetro da Silva, Oscar Stagnaro, Leo Blanco, Susana Baca, and Paquito D'Rivera, among others, during his time at Berklee.

All performances are from noon to 2 pm. Performances may be cancelled due to weather or changed due to scheduling. Click here to see all of the upcoming performances.
 
Sweet Harmony Singing on Saturdays on Summer Street 

The singing group Sweet Harmony is performing on Saturdays outside of Macy's on Summer Street from 12:30 to 3 pm.

Sweet Harmony is a professional performance troupe at Riverside Theatre Works in Hyde Park performing modern hits and songs through the years.
 
McCullough and Glass to Discuss Essential Historical Sites in the U.S. on June 15th at Old South Meeting House

Don't miss a fascinating event with two of the nation's leading historians talking about essential historic sites in the U.S. on Wednesday, June 15th at the Old South Meeting House (310 Washington St.). 

Pulitzer Prize-winning author David McCullough and Brent D. Glass, author of "50 Great American Places: Essential Historical Sites Across the U.S." will talk about cultural and historical sites discussed in Glass' book. Book sales and a signing by Glass will follow the program. This event is free and open to the public, but reservations are requested by clicking here.
Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation Summit on 'The Future of Transportation: Paving a Path to Progress' on June 16th

The Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation (333 Washington St.) is hosting "The Future of Transportation: Paving a Path to Progress" featuring Governor Charlie Baker and MassDOT Secretary of Transportation Stephanie Pollack on Thursday, June 16th. 

This MTF summit will be on what's fixed, what's next and what's the goal? MBTA Fiscal and Management Control Board Chairman Joe Aiello and MTF President Eileen McAnneny will also be featured. Panels will include: selecting which projects to fund; maximizing every dollar spent; and planning to meet global challenges.

This summit is at the UMass Club (One Beacon St.) at 8 am to 12:30 pm. Click here to register for this event.
 
4th Annual DYS Statewide Youth Showcase at Paramount Center on 
June 16th

The 4th Annual DYS Statewide Youth Showcase "Share Your Art, Share Your Voice" will be at the Paramount Center on Thursday, June 16th from 1 to 6 pm.

This is an impressive statewide exhibition featuring youth art, musical performances, presentations and more. Selected pieces of youth art will be available for sale. Click here for more information or to register for this event.
 
Bisnow's 'Future of Downtown Boston' Event on June 21st 

Join Bisnow for its annual Future of Downtown event with panelists who are shaping the area through investment, development and more on Tuesday, June 21st at 7:30 to 10:30 am

Opening remarks will be made by Larry DiCara, partner of Nixon Peabody. An "Around the Freedom Trail" panel discussion will include BID President & CEO Rosemarie Sansone, pictured above; Scott Pollack, principal of Arrowstreet; Maura Moffat, managing director for Synergy Investments; Lee Pelton, president of Emerson College; and Steven Faber, EVP of Related Beal.

European-Inspired Caf� Marliave Now Open on Province Street

The newly-opened Caf� Marliave (51 Province St.) is a European-inspired espresso bar that wants you to feel like you're in Italy or France. 

"We wanted it like in Italy when you're next to the barista, talking to them, and seeing them making your drink," said Scott Herritt, owner of the cafe and the Marliave restaurant, which is on the three floors above the cafe.

The cafe specializes in espresso drinks like cappuccino, 
caf� au lait and caff� americano. The cafe serves beignets with cinnamon sugar, quiches, sandwiches and more, which are all made in-house. All of the items are made in the pastry kitchen below the cafe.

GBREB Foundation and uAspire Host Scholarship Leadership Breakfast; 
BID Chairman Jack Spurr Honored 

More than $100,000 in scholarships were awarded by the Greater Boston Real Estate Board (GBREB) Foundation during its Scholarship Leadership Breakfast on June 3rd. The event was hosted by uAspire (31 Milk St.) and the GBREB, which gave scholarships to approximately 25 low-income, first-year college-bound students.

"uAspire helps high school students get into college, many of who will be the first member of their family to attend college," said Jack Spurr, President & CEO of A.W. Perry and BID chairman, who was honored with a uAspire One Award. "I happen to be the first one in my family to go to college. A.W. Perry and Perry Brokerage have been supporters of uAspire because we see the great value of the scholarship fund."

Artisan Bistro to Fight Childhood Cancer with Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation

This summer Artisan Bistro (10 Avery St.) at The Ritz-Carlton, Boston will be rolling out a lemonade stand on the sidewalk in support of Alex's Lemonade Foundation, a nonprofit that raises money to find a cure for childhood cancer. On Sunday, June 12th, all proceeds from the lemonade stand at Artisan Bistro will be donated to the organization.

Every Sunday through July 31st, the lemonade stand will be outside the restaurant, and partial proceeds will be given to the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF). The stand will be selling strawberry lemonade, traditional lemonade or sugar-free lemonade, lemon crackle cookies and sugar cookies.

ALSF emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra "Alex" Scott, seen below, who passed away in 2004. 

To date more than $120 million has been raised through ALSF, funding more than 550 pediatric cancer research projects. Click here for more info about ALSF or to host a lemonade stand.

The Boston Municipal Research Bureau (333 Washington St.) and KPMG are hosting a BMRB Member Briefing with Atyia Martin on Tuesday, June 7th

Martin is the City of Boston's Chief Resilience Officer and is in charge of preparing the city for catastrophes, whether natural or man-made. Her work also includes social and economic resilience to address the disparities of race and class to better position the whole city to thrive after emergencies.

Open House for Winthrop Square Garage Proposals on June 13th

The Boston Redevelopment Authority is hosting a public open house to allow the six development teams vying for the chance to redevelop the property at 115 Winthrop Square an opportunity to present their concepts and answer questions about the proposal. This meeting is on Monday, June 13th at Faneuil Hall's Great Hall from 6:30 to 8:30 pm
