Marketing & Brand Manager

The Downtown Boston BID is seeking a Marketing & Brand Manager. Reporting directly to the President/Chief Executive Officer, this position will be responsible for increasing the BID's brand visibility and awareness and for promoting BID assets in making the Downtown Boston BID a premier destination. Please click here for a full job description.

As the Brand Manager, he/she will be responsible for ensuring that the products and services provided by the BID resonate with the public with consistency and raise awareness. The Marketing & Brand Manager will serve as the point-person for developing, implementing and executing all marketing initiatives. These initiatives and activities include all print-, electronic-, social media-based campaigns and publications.

Meeting Tonight: Midtown Cultural District Residents' Association

The Midtown Cultural District Residents' Association (MCDRA) is holding its March meeting tonight (Monday, March 14th). This meeting will be at the Suffolk University Law School (120 Tremont St., Room 295) at 7 pm.

The scheduled agenda includes: an update from the Boston Police Department and the MBTA Transit Police; Chris Cook, Commissioner of Boston Parks & Recreation, will lead a discussion on open space and the proposed new visitor center; and also updates on several proposed developments. The Boston Ballet's latest show "Kaleidoscope" opens at the Boston Opera House on March 17th

"Kaleidoscope" is a beautiful fusion of works by 20th century masters. The program features George Balanchine's Kammermusik No. 2, the choreography of William Forsythe's The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude, the movement of Leonid Yakobson's Pas de Quatre and the comic exuberance of L�onide Massine's Ga�t� Parisienne. Boston Flower Show Preview Party to Benefit The Genesis Foundation for Children on March 15th

All proceeds from the Boston Flower Show Preview Party on March 15th will benefit The Genesis Foundation for Children (60 Temple Place). The Genesis Foundation for Children is a nonprofit that focuses on improving the lives of children born with genetic disorders.

The preview party will feature a live performance by American Idol star Haley Reinhart, and will be hosted by Karson & Kennedy of Mix 104.1, Mayor Martin Walsh will also speak. 

This event will be at the Seaport World Trade Center on Tuesday, March 15th, 6:30 to 9:30 pm. Click here for tickets and more info.
 
A Beckett Trilogy: 'Not I/Footfalls/Rockaby' at Paramount Center Starting March 16th

Charitable Irish Society's 279th St. Patrick's Day Anniversary Dinner at 
Omni Parker House

The Charitable Irish Society will host the 279th St. Patrick's Day Anniversary Dinner at the Omni Parker House (60 School St.) on March 17th at 6 pm

Diarmaid Ferriter, professor of Modern History at University College, Dublin, will be the featured speaker and talk about the meaning and legacy of the Easter Rising of 1916. Ferriter is the author of five books on modern Irish history.

Free Movies: Oscar Award-Winning 'Room' and 'Tangerine' from Emerson College's Bright Lights Film Series 

The Emerson College's Bright Lights Film Series is a free movie series that is open to the public at the Paramount Center's Bright Family Screening Room (559 Washington St.).

On Tuesday, March 15th enjoy the Oscar award-winning movie "Room" and on Thursday, March 17th will be "Tangerine" and a discussion with actress Mya Taylor after the screening.

'Mistero Buffo' Debuts at Modern Theatre on March 18th

The side-splitting "Mistero Buffo" play will debut at the Modern Theatre on March 18th

Mistero Buffo, by Italian Nobel Laureate Dario Fo, is modern interpretations of stories from the Gospels. But this play turn these familiar tales upside down. This play is directed by prize-winning director Bob Scanlan, who also created this original American translation. This play is produced in partnership with Suffolk University, and is a co-production with The Boston Poets' Theatre.

'I Now Pronounce You: Lucy Stone' at Old South Meeting House on March 25th

At "I Now Pronounce You: Lucy Stone (1818-1893)" at the Old South Meeting House, you'll learn about the first woman from Massachusetts to earn a college degree and a lifelong human rights supporter. This event is part of the Middays at the Meeting House series and will take place at 12:15 pm on Friday, March 25th.

Stone demanded that her marriage vows be rewritten and refused to take her husband's surname. As a public speaker she campaigned for equal rights for women and African-Americans, inspiring many women, including Susan B. Anthony, to join the suffrage moment. 

This event is $6 and tickets can be purchased here. It is free to OSMH members.
 
Learn About Revolutionary Women from New Freedom Trail Tour

The Freedom Trail Foundation is piloting a new Revolutionary Women Tour, inviting visitors to discover four centuries of women who changed history from Boston. The tour is taking place on Saturdays and Sunday in March, in celebration of Women's History Month.

This 90-minute tour feature tales of the early religious rebellions of Anne Hutchinson and Mary Dyer, patriotic actions of Abigail Adams and Mercy Otis Warren, abolitionist movements of Harriet Beecher Stowe and Harriet Tubman, prolific writings of authors Phillis Wheatley and Louisa May Alcott, and landmark speeches of Margaret Sanger and Susan B. Anthony. Led by 18th-century costumed guides, tours will visit the places where these women's voices were heard, their works published, and laid to rest along Boston's iconic red line.
 
The Revolutionary Women Tour departs from the Boston Common Visitor Information Center (139 Tremont St.) on Saturdays and Sundays in March at 12:45 pm. Freedom Trail Foundation walking tours are $14 for adults, $12 for seniors/students and $8 for children.
 
Daniel Faucher Wedding Gown Fashion in Downtown Boston March 31st

This March the BID and Platform Downtown are presenting several wedding-themed events -- The Bridal March Series. The last event in this series is going to be a wedding gown fashion show!
"The Bridal March - Designer Dresses" is on Thursday, March 31st, at 1 Federal St. (9th Floor) from 6 to 8 pm. Come and enjoy a fashion show of award-winning bridal designer Daniel Faucher's newest beautiful creations. There will be a show and then a conversation with Faucher after the show. Art in Giving Gallery Exhibit 
'Spring & Joy' Includes 10 Artists 

Check out the latest exhibit "Spring & Joy" at the Art in Giving Gallery (100 Summer St. entrance via Devonshire Street).

"Spring & Joy" exhibits paintings by 10 artists inspired by the joy of spring, highlighting the uplifting, colorful time of the year.

Hairo is novel for several reasons -- one is that it is in the entryway of the trendy Yvonne's restaurant. Hairo is open Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 3 pm, closes, and then Yvonne's opens at 4 pm. Yvonne's hostess desk is actually inside Hairo.

Gina Archieri is the manager for Hairo and loves working Downtown. "It's a cool concept. We book every half hour. It's perfect if you have a meeting or dinner to go to. You can run in and get your hair touched up." The business offers blow drys or flat/curling ironing. You can come in with wet hair, too.

Late Night MBTA Service Ends This Weekend; Uber Offering $5 Pool Rides for Next Four Weekends 

Beginning Friday night, March 18th, the MBTA is ending late-night Friday and Saturday service.

The last
Red/Orange/Green/Blue Line trains and Silver Line (SL1) will depart Downtown stations at approximately 2 am on Saturday, March 19th. Click here for more info. Please e-mail [email protected] with any comments or questions regarding extended late-night services. 

While the MBTA is ending late night service, Uber Boston is offering $5 uberPOOL rides along T subway lines during late night hours for four weekends starting March 19th. 
Boston Releases Five-Year Small Business Plan; Small Business Center Being Created

The City of Boston announced a five-year small business plan after releasing a study about small businesses in Boston.

Click here for the full report. One recommendation is opening a new Small Business Center through a new Office of Small Business Development. This center would offer small businesses access to city services and resources, including a website offering direct access to permitting, licensing, and zoning functions, as well as tools to find vacant commercial space. This office would also consolidate existing departments that overlap with its mission. The department would be established July 1st.

Other recommendations, included allowing women- and minority-owned businesses to lease underutilized city property and space in new publicly-owned developments at lower rates.

The city will also look to expand We BOS, a program for women entrepreneurs, and creating networks of minority and immigrant business owners and entrepreneurs.
