Cancelled: Tonight's Midtown Cultural District Residents' Association Meeting to be Rescheduled Due to Winter Storm

Tonight's Midtown Cultural District Residents' Association (MCDRA) has been cancelled due to the winter storm. The meeting will be rescheduled.

The agenda includes: announcement regarding expansion of the MCDRA leadership team; Chris Cook, commissioner of Boston Parks & Recreation; and Haley Fortier, proprietor of Haley.Henry Wine Bar (45 Province St.).

This meeting is open to the public.

Celebrate Black History Month on the Freedom Trail 

In celebration of Black History Month, please join the Freedom Trail's African-American Tour on Saturdays and Sundays throughout February at 12:45 pm.

Led by 18th-century costumed guides, visitors view history through the eyes of African-American revolutionaries such as Crispus Attucks, Phillis Wheatley, Prince Hall, Peter Salem and more. This 90-minute long tour departs from Boston Common Visitor Information Center (139 Tremont St.).

Watch 'The Wolfpack' and 'The Diary of a Teenage Girl' as Part of Emerson College's Free Bright Lights Film Series 

The Emerson College's Bright Lights Film Series is a twice a week free movie series that is open to the public at the Paramount Center's Bright Family Screening Room (559 Washington St.).

On Tuesday, Feb. 9th enjoy the documentary "The Wolfpack" or the film "The Diary of a Teenage Girl" on Thursday, Feb. 11th.

Four Barrel Coffee Cupping at 
Clover on Feb. 10th

Clover (27 School St.) will welcome Four Barrel Coffee's Regional Wholesale Manager Mike Squires for a cupping, showcasing Four Barrel's latest offerings in a hands-on lab-style tasting of coffees from around the globe.

An Evening of Raw Chocolate Making at Marlo Marketing on Feb. 10th

Chinese New Year Lion Dance Parade on Feb. 14th in Chinatown

Chinese New Year is today, Monday, Feb. 8th and begins the year 4714 on the Chinese calendar. In celebration of the new year, there will be a Lion Dance Parade on Sunday, Feb. 14th at 11 am in Chinatown

The parade goes along Beach Street and other nearby streets in Chinatown. This is a traditional celebration featuring martial artists, brightly colored Chinese costumes worn by lion dancers, traditional food, music and more. 
Musical 'Pippin' at Boston Opera House Through Feb. 14th

The high-flying musical "Pippin" is at the Boston Opera House through Feb. 14th.

Chinatown Main Street 
Cultural Village on Feb. 14th 

Chinatown Main Street is presenting a Chinese New Year Cultural Village at the China Trade Center (Boylston and Washington streets) on Sunday, Feb. 14th from noon to 3 pm
There will be Chinese calligraphy, handmade dough characters, coloring pages, origami folding, balloons, giveaways, free prizes, healthcare information and more. This is a free event.  
School Vacation Week at 
Old South Meeting House: 
Get Presidential at the Meet House

How well do you know the presidents of the US? Visit the Old South Meeting House (310 Washington St.) during the week of President's Day and learn fun facts about our presidents and visit the balcony where George Washington stood during the Revolutionary War. 

There are multiple events every day at OSMH, including Presidential Fun Facts, Tots' Corner, Pen Pals or walk in GW's Footsteps. Click here to see a list of all scheduled activities.

All activities are included with museum admission. Admission is free for Boston residents 18 and younger when accompanied by an adult. 
 
Free Children's Winter Festival on 
Boston Common on Feb. 16th

There will be a city-sponsored Children's Winter Festival on the Boston Common on Tuesday, Feb. 16th from 10 am to 4 pm

This is a free event. There will be a Snowzilla, a three-story high inflatable toboggan slide. Children can also take photos inside a 15-foot tall snow globe, skate for free on the Boston Common Frog Pond, participate in free activities and giveaways. 
 
Free Skating at the Boston Common 
Frog Pond, Feb. 15-19

The Highland Street Foundation is sponsoring a Winter Camp 2016 that includes free ice skating on Boston Common's Frog Pond during February school vacation week (February 15-19).

There will also be guest appearances throughout the week from Wally the Green Monster, Curious George and more. There will be giveaways and refreshments. 
To avoid long waiting times, tickets for available time slots will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis each day at the Frog Pond starting at 10 am. 
'An Octoroon' Opens at the
Paramount Center through Feb. 27th

"An Octoroon," the winner of the 2014 Obie Award for Best New American Play, debuted at the Paramount Center on Jan. 29th and run through Feb. 27th.

Author Branden Jacobs-Jenkins revises a popular 19th century melodrama with "blushing Southern belles, dastardly schemes, and budding forbidden romances - for today's 'post-racial,' spectacle-obsessed world."

The Godfrey Hotel Boston is Officially Open After Ribbon Cutting

After a soft opening the previous week, a formal ribbon cutting officially opened the chic 242-room Godfrey Hotel Boston (505 Washington St.) on Feb. 3rd.

"We are proud to call Boston home to our expanding Godfrey Hotel brand," said Oxford Capital Group President & CEO John Rutledge. "With such a robust room demand in Boston, The Godfrey Hotel Boston is an instrumental development in the Downtown Crossing neighborhood." 
As part of the ribbon cutting, the Godfrey Hotel Boston made four $25,000 donations to area organizations: The Wang YMCA of Chinatown; Boston Asian: Youth Essential Services Youth Ready for Work Program; Kwong Kow Chinese School Afterschool Program; and Asian American Civic Association Work Force Developments.
 
And while guests are already enjoying their stays at the hotel, there is more coming from this new rejuvenated block -- a George Howell Coffee shop will be opening in the coming months, as will be an unannounced restaurant. Stay tuned for a future announcement about those two new businesses on the first floor next to the Godfrey.
Hyatt Regency Boston Winter Necessity Drive Items Donated to BID

Staff and guests of the Hyatt Regency Boston recently participated in a Winter Necessity Drive collecting items for those in need in the Downtown Boston area. The items were donated to the BID and will be distributed as needed.

"I am thrilled that our Winter Necessity Drive was a success and further supported our mission of care and purpose within the hotel as well as the community," said Terry Dunbar, GM of the Hyatt Regency Boston. 

New and gently-used hats, scarves, socks, pants, gloves, jackets and more were donated.
